Thanks for sharing. I visited the MPD in the early 1970s when it was the SE Steam Centre. Your video confirms that it was once an important steam shed and I never got a change to visit it again before it was demolished.
Excellent production, very interesting I know Brian and said many times he should get you to do more with your archive material and here I find you have well done.
I always think of the people who lost their jobs with sights like this poor sods. Engineers and railway staff chucked on the scrap heap after generations of workers and all the skills now lost to time , great video
British-mechanic It was far better to scrap all the polluting steam locos and melt down the metals. Demolish the works and repurpose the land for housing. We can buy less polluting modern locomotives cheaper from overseas. It's a win win situation.
The Germans tried so hard to bomb ashford railway works. My dear old mother told me many times about the day at school, when they had to go into the air raid shelter. Then after the raid when they came up the school or most of it in Victoria Road was gone. The thing that seems to have stuck in my mother‘s mind was that one of the bombs killed a horse in a field. Poor thing.

Thank you, glad you enjoyed it.
Great
Too sad for words the Railway built Ashford only for so much of it to be trashed and changed beyond all recognition.

Thank you, Yes The Railway works were the heart of town and it was a tragedy when it closed.

And to think even the Luftwaffe couldn’t shut the old place down, It was a big part of Ashfords history, Why it was allowed to rot god knows.
