    those are blue leds either dipped in or are encased in the phosphorus material that makes white leds white. This is a really nice trick, now im wanting to find some of these for some specialty lighting.

    • @GGigabiteM
      @GGigabiteM 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      The small Walmart stake garden lights have used a very similar LED to these the past few years to get them to be brighter. The older version used cold white 5mm LEDs that wasn't very bright.
      The only difference between these and the one in the garden light is that only the tip of the garden light LED has the phosphor in it, while these are entirely phosphor. I've tried finding these LEDs on Ebay and other places with no luck so far. The closest I've gotten is the diffused/frosted LEDs.

    @mike7958 5 ปีที่แล้ว +17

    Let me just start off by saying this, that little quick current monitoring test you did to see if the cluster went to sleep is not nearly enough. You need to monitor the current consumption for an extended period of time. In most cases I've seen where the cluster drains the battery, its not that the cluster can't go to sleep, its that the cluster keeps waking up throughout an extended period of time. Monitoring the current just long enough for the microprocessor to go to sleep tells us nothing. I've ran into many cases where I would monitor the current consumption for a couple hours or more with zero current draw, and then suddenly the micro would wake back up and start drawing 400-500ma for no reason at all.

    • @jeffescortlx
      @jeffescortlx  5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I'll defiantly keep my eyes open for that. I haven't run into any yet that wake it's self up (even during non-rushed filming repairs). I haven't had any come bounce back to me yet with battery drain issues. Now I wonder how long circuit board medics test's them for because they gave it the green light too. So for the ones you've seen wake up, were you able to fix it?

    I noticed in different Gm 03-06 clusters models years or software version the fuel gauge bottom empty “zero” position is little different, so it’s best to put on the fuel gauge needle on during fuel gauge in “full” position to ensure its calibrated correctly

    • @jeffescortlx
      @jeffescortlx  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I've been pretty observant with the fuel gauge start setting throughout the years. For virgins it's always started one needle width below the E notch. For all 03-07 (classic) but there are exceptions for clusters that have been previously rebuilt/repaired/taken apart.

    I have a 2001 Yukon XL 1500 that has parasitic power drain. I've done the preliminary stuff, such as isolate the radio and accessory circuits, check for alternator/ecm faults, etc to no avail. I took the cluster out and couldn't see any signs of defects (burnt/open traces, signs of heat/discoloration, etc.) and all of the components on the cluster work. There have been some who have noted a current draw when these clusters "wake up" hours after turning off, and some have theorized the BCM is at fault. Here's my question: if I don't have/use keyless entry (due to security issues anyway), why couldn't I place one or two relays in place for those respective circuits, switched with the ignition? Is there any valid reason why the cluster needs any power after shutdown? I can see why one would want the BCM to have power, but I don't use or want any of those features (e.g., radio turning off with the door as opposed to ignition). Could I use a capacitor to supplement a relay to give, say, 2 minutes after ignition off to power the BCM or cluster, then deny power thereafter with the relay once the capcitor drains? I notice many folks having parasitic power drains and spending 300-400 bucks to replace/reprogram the BCM and fix clusters, when $20 in a couple relays and resistors/caps could be a solution. Opinions? Thanks in advance!

    • @jeffescortlx
      @jeffescortlx  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      No need for cap's, relays and resistors. Just move the constant 12v wire over with the switched 12v wire.
      I'm not sure what the security function will do. Worth a shot.

I have a tracker fitted which constantly charges its 3.7 internal battery and with that disconnected the drain dropped to 0.04-0.05A. It's not common for the 99-02 to have gauges to completely stop working (unless they all stop at the same time.) You probably have sending unit issues. You should do deeper trouble shooting because sending the cluster off for rebuilding might not fix your problem. Depending on what gauges are not working, you may have comunication issues.

    Please take note:This may help some with a battery drain issue,you cant see this becuase its in a blind spot!!! theres a fuse box, usually under the baterry compartment on gm's and chevys, the lostive cabke that runs from the altenator to the junction box, goes to the battery, "if that wire is loose, corroded or broken" you will not get substantial power to your battery, therefore it will drain over time, basically its not getting the full charge, because of the loos wire, this is exactly what was wrimg with my vehicle

      That group of 510's is for the PRND321 only, so if that display is working it's not that. You probably have a issue in the hot wire circuit or it's power supply.

    also very common in GM trucks and SUVs 2003-2007 for radio to cause battery drainage. Easiest way to diagnose which unit is causing it by disconnecting the units one by one for a while until finding which one is causing the current draw

      @@caseypirro6359 Typically removing the corrosion is just one small step in a cluster rebuild. But if you just want to correct that single issue, you can pop off the back cover and gently scrub the corrosion off with some rubbing alcohol and a scuff pad. (It will look like dark staining)

    I'm having bit of a different issue with the left turn signal and hazards just making everything on the dash flash if the lights are off, nothing if they are on; right side works fine. Would replacing the cluster bulbs (twist on) with LED without resistors cause a fault? The left blinker indicator and rear bulb stay on with lights on, nothing in front at all. Replaced blinker relay, light switch and disconnected the multi-switch but the fault remained. Also, everything else controlled by the multi-switch works fine. Added LED bulbs to the front parking and turn signals as well, tried incandescent again to no avail...

    • @jeffescortlx
      @jeffescortlx  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      LED's in both outside housings and in the cluster can cause issues. The fishers require a certain amount of current to work (older styles anyways). Also, check your hazard switch.
