Coming deliberately back to this video after 3 years to check whether some of its excellence has been lost. No, still my favourite bouldering video. Somehow, you managed to compress the story of one boulder worth a whole movie into a few minutes. Great storytelling.
No time wasted, voiceover (specially with the micro betas) + actual climbing footage, that's the way! And nice score..probably the best "mini climbing documentary" I've seen..
10/10, the voiceover of micro beta makes ridiculous boulders a little more relatable for the average climber and definitely helped me appreciate the difficulty of the positions/sequence being shown. Solid props for the send/edit, already looking forward to the next
Beautiful Paul. It's awesome to see some introspection in a bouldering video, as opposed to the raging electro-beats that typically plague the shorts. Empathizing with you, from up here in Estes.
This video is excellent and inspiring from every perspective/angle ... cinematography - music - voice over - climbing. It's definitely more than just another climbing video. Keep up the good work !
This video perfectly captures the thoughts going through every climber's head when they're up against a problem that demands the most of them. Great vid.
that was beautiful. First time I watch that kind of climbing/bouldering video with a monologue. Everything you said and did, the production after that, the weather conditions, the going-to-the-problem sequence, just everything was perfect. I really hope to see more of those in the future
Just woah! The music, the sound, the images, the way you take us through the climb while speaking.. This is absolutely my favorite climbing video! Just watched it 4 times and can't stop ^^ Amazing job!!! PERFECT!
How do you not have more subscribers? I subbed instantly after seeing this. The climbing, camerawork, editing & music selection... all as good as it gets. Even your voice is good for voice-overs! Excited to see all of it now :D
Great video, solid concept and execution! I sometimes feel like I somehow cheated when a project finally goes. Doubts about grade and effort etc. But the feeling of standing on the top is second to none. Now I just need to actually get on something that's really hard, whether it feels impossible or not. (When I'm allowed out my garage again..)
Being a grumpy old man I usually watch bouldering clips on "mute". I loved the sound in this one. This mini film was incredible. Really, the quality of your videos seem to get better at astonishing rate.
thank you very much. i am really trying to focus on audio quality going into the future. it is such an important aspect to the entire viewing process. I am glad you noticed.
Great video! Love to see how climbing videos are becoming mini documentaries about the struggles of each climb. Specifically, liked how there wasn't necessarily a high intensity vibe, to a very tough dyno, I'd assume that this "calming" has some representation in how you feel about this specific climb now. Congrats!
Thanks so much! yes. i feel like for me i have to calm everything down and just think about that exact moment and what needs to be done. that was the goal of the music and mood of the film. thanks again!
Dude you're such an inspiring and strong climber! Love the editing and video. Honestly surprised you dont have a ton more views. I'm a lowly V6 climber, but Id love to climb with you one day...
i think they should put more classical music in climbing videos. I dont even really like classical music but its just so calming and it kinda shows the pureness of the sport :)
Hi Paul, I noticed some boulderers tend to choose snowy places for climbing trips. May I know what's the motivation for this and how do you manage to keep your fingers warm and functional in these conditions?
the motivation for climbing in the snow on a sunny day is this is when you are likely to get the best conditions. yes your fingers do get cold but if you can keep them warm enough, they will stay dry and with the chalk almost sticky against the rock. in hotter conditions, we struggle with the friction required to stay on the wall. it is sometimes quite miserable to be out there in those conditions but very worth it if you send one of your projects!

Eliot Ruske thank you so much! I appreciate the feedback
Such a great video man, everything about it! Keep up the good work!

Sweet video... keep the monologues coming. Love knowing what you’re focusing on during hard climbs!
Beautiful Paul. It's awesome to see some introspection in a bouldering video, as opposed to the raging electro-beats that typically plague the shorts. Empathizing with you, from up here in Estes.
This is art. Wow. Love the internal monologue commentary, and, as others have said, the beta voiceover. Just wow.
Thx for being so passionate about climbing

Criminally under rated and under viewed video. Masterpiece!
That was incredible. Loved the voiceover with the beta and the piano.
