This week, we take you behind the scenes of one of Paris' most famous monuments: the Hotel des Invalides. Built a stone's-throw away from the river Seine, this military hospital, necropolis and museum were long associated to the Monarch who commissioned the edifice: King Louis the 14th, of Versailles fame. But after the revolution, the Invalides became synonymous with another French leader: Napoleon Bonaparte

Cannot recommend visiting this place enough. If you like history, especially french military history then do make the trip. I’ve been several times and it’s always been a pleasure.
Wow, France of old really treated their veterans well. This must’ve been an extreme privilege to live in such a grand place having come from poor farmer families as most common soldiers were.

Napoleon was first sent to the island of Elba in the Mediterranean, but he organized his army again and went on to be defeated at Waterloo. He was then exiled to the UK island in the South Atlantic, isolated from the rest of the World by the name of Saint Helena until he died. The announcer in this video mispronounces the island, like so many others producing documentaries. The Saints, as they ar known on the island of St.. Helena, pronounce their Homeland 'Santa LENA', and not Saint HELL en a.
In french santa is saint so "Saint Hell ena" Perfect for us. Thank you.
@@gringologie9302 I guess it's one of those cases where someone can pronounce their name any way they wish, and the saints on the island, ( as they are called ), who are the locals do not pronounce it, Saint HELL, ena.

@@williamfulgham2010 Exactly yet any anglophone would pronounce the s. And no one would expect the whole world to pronounce it the French way. It's even more true with geography/history like Joan of Arc which we call Jeanne d'Arc.
This video has the only footage I can find of the altar at 1:00. It is highly occult just like everything else in the building. Layers on layers of it but I would love to see the symbolism on the alter up close.
