PG was invited to a practice space in Nashville during Young the Giant’s rehearsals for the band’s upcoming Home of the Strange tour. Guitarists Eric Cannata (above right) and Jacob Tilley hang for a long time explaining how custom guitars and a bevy of pedals play into their live sound.
Eric’s longtime No. 1 used to be an early ’60s Jazzmaster (he felt it was a bit too bright through a Fender amp), but replacing it now is this ’60s non-reverse Gibson Firebird that is favored because of its meaty mini-humbucker in the bridge position. All his guitars are strung up with D’Addario NYXL .010-.046 strings.
The story of Jacob’s main ride starts with the band’s sound engineer tagging the guitarist in an Instagram post by Lincoln Guitars based out of Austin, Texas. Jacob quickly fell for the designs and hit it off with luthier Derek Asuan-O’Brien and they collaborated on this Bitterbird that features a Mastery bridge, tailpiece, and McNelly pickups. All his guitars are using D’Addario NYXL .011-.049 strings.

any one who has a strat they think is to bright and don't want to spend silly money on new pickup's try fenders 57/62 pickup's they are[ as far as i know ] fenders lowest output pickup at 5.6K that alone does not mean they are not bright[ pickup's can be low output and still very bright] but they are very warm,soft and round sounding with a good amount of bass which should tame a very bright sounding guitar.and there is an answer to a question no one asked!?

GUITARISTS!! HEADLESS guitars are infinitely superior to normal ones (nevermind just the LESS WEIGHT). (But don't buy expensive ones, unless you get the cash. I paid $150 for ALL 3 of my headless guitars! BEST THING EVER.)

Premier Guitars ...Please start showing some class in these interviews. Chris Keyes showing up to interview Young the Giants wearing a faded brown t-shirt two sizes too small coupled with "jail house" looking arm and leg tattoos and a shaved head is low form. John Bolinger does a much better job.
