People like to say that it is okay to adapt stories differently, which is true, but I don't like when industries want to tell the story in a different way but is still appealing to nostalgia. The lines, the music, the dresses, I mean, tell the story in a new way if you want, but do not nitpick and keep the things you know are profitable. For example the Princess and the Frog is one of my favorite Disney movies, it is great and it is very different from the original tale. I don't hate people for liking this new changes though. In my case Disney lost me with the live actions when they made Maleficent a victim. Not saying the story is bad, it's just I liked her more before.
It's difficult to see the movie when we already know the actress publicly said she dislikes the original movie, wearing the dress, the prince, almost everything about Snow White story. Let's see: 1. Instead of hiring small actors for the dwarves they used regular people (some were switched to be women for some reason) 2. The original folktale depicted the princess with skin white as snow which is not the case here 3. It's remade with modern ideals like Snow White no longer focusing on finding true love 4. People are tired of remade live action movie adaptations that already worked on the past and still do today Now let me just clarify that it's not a bad thing to take your own spin on a franchise as long as you respect the original source material or make it separate. Spiderverse for example did it's own thing by taking some of the stuff that we know into something unique and original on it's own. The Star Wars anime was also loved and got a second season because of that. It's ONLY wrong when you do a near exact copy of the original source and try to define it as that. The upcoming Mufasa movie totally retcons the animated Lion King's history and people are rightfully upset about that. Instead of remaking stuff without giving a care, make separate original content that people haven't seen yet. Audiences have been asking for that since this whole mess started and wouldn't it be nice to start something completely original for once?
I have less concern about the casting, but I do care about number 3. the story of Snow White being there despite it supposedly a live action reboot. You can't save a movie that has a bad story, writing, and direction. But a movie with questionable choices in casting still has a chance in being saved with good story and writing.
I'm personally fine with 1., 2. and 4. I'm just worried about 3. The problem I have with Snow White is that they deliberately did it wrong on purpose for no reason whatsoever. The reason why Snow White is called that is because it's a description of her skin color but then you cast Rachel Zegler so the name is pointless. Also, the villain of Snow White is the Queen. Her whole deal is that she's jealous of Snow White's youth and beauty because she's old and ugly. But you cast Gal Gadot who's absolutely gorgeous. I'm supposed to believe that she's jealous of Rachel's beauty? They had the source material and they completely ignored it. The issue with snow white is that one interview with rachel is not the one were talking about. Disney is technically doing what reactors are doing, changing original stuff here and there for different reasons to profit off of it, but its not just Disney.
What if Scar does something unspeakable and so the throne is given to Mufasa instead, because of his brother's disgraceful actions? What if Scar heroically saves Mufasa, but disappears/is presumed dead as a result, so Mufasa is crowned King in his place? What if Scar straight up denounces the throne, only to realize how badly he wants it *after* seeing Mufasa crowned King? What if their father notices Mufasa's superior physical strength as the brothers age (something Scar Admits to in the original) and favors him over Scar, forces the two to battle for the throne, and Mufasa begrudgingly wins...? There are so many ways this story can pan out and I am admittedly intrigued. 😅

There’s been heavy controversy about the Snow White live-action film ever since it was announced who would be portraying Snow White because everyone hates the actress because of some controversial stuff she said in the past while filming the movie before reshoots were made. Also, the reason why they didn’t hire little people to play the seven dwarves is that Peter Dinklage made a claim a while back when the movie was announced in the making that hiring little people for those roles is offensive and made a whole thing about it, so Disney backed off on having real-life little people performers and so they first hired tall diverse actors but then that leaked out and everyone hated it on the internet and so they made the decision on having the dwarves be CGI. This film doesn’t deserve all the negative bullshit it’s been receiving, at least not until it’s been released, because then we’ll know if the movie was a shit show or not, which, by Disney’s track record, it has a 50/50 possibility of being that. But until then, I think visually it looks fantastic; the actress sings beautifully, the evil queen actually looks badass and menacing, and the dwarves, again, you can tell they’re CGI and not in a good way, but it’s OK for me to handle it during the showing of the movie. All I want is for it to be well written and well directed, and all negatives of the CGI can be brushed aside for me, at least

Second - the initial casting of DEI actors that are not actually dwarves, instead of hiring dwarf actors, that vocalized Disney is not giving them the opportunity to become part of an iconic movie, reverted to CGI instead. Third - The Boss Babe attitude. In the clip, Snow White got the dwarves to clean up the house without lifting a finger herself. And last but not the least, Rachael Zegler calling the Prince "weird" in that disastrous interview. There are more I think but I can't be bothered recalling it.
The way I took the snow white controversy is like this. Say for example I was making a superman movie and the marketing promoting the movie had the superman S everywhere, the trailer comes out and it's got the white man in costume with the shield and cape it even has the spacecraft landing in Kansas seemingly all the hallmarks. So people go to the movie expecting a traditional superman movie like the comics. But when you sit down to watch it, it isn't about superman. It's about the difficulties with the adoption processes in America, the hardships of being a foster parent and white privilege. Like none of the actual superman shit we thought we were going to see. Instead of just not making the movie it at all, or sticking with the story as is. Or better yet telling the story they want just not calling it superman.

She has fueled much of the controversy regarding her race with posts on X, including how she wasn't going to bleach herself for the role, how the character of Snow White would be another girl-boss (which Hollywood has proven time and time again they can't write and no one likes it when they do) instead of the character people love (which includes my sister), and even commented that they could write off the Prince entirely. Most recently, she has come out in favor of Hamas, compared to her costar Gal Gadot who is Israeli and served in the IDF.

People like to say that it is okay to adapt stories differently, which is true, but I don't like when industries want to tell the story in a different way but is still appealing to nostalgia. The lines, the music, the dresses, I mean, tell the story in a new way if you want, but do not nitpick and keep the things you know are profitable. For example the Princess and the Frog is one of my favorite Disney movies, it is great and it is very different from the original tale. I don't hate people for liking this new changes though. In my case Disney lost me with the live actions when they made Maleficent a victim. Not saying the story is bad, it's just I liked her more before.

Now let me just clarify that it's not a bad thing to take your own spin on a franchise as long as you respect the original source material or make it separate. Spiderverse for example did it's own thing by taking some of the stuff that we know into something unique and original on it's own. The Star Wars anime was also loved and got a second season because of that. It's ONLY wrong when you do a near exact copy of the original source and try to define it as that. The upcoming Mufasa movie totally retcons the animated Lion King's history and people are rightfully upset about that. Instead of remaking stuff without giving a care, make separate original content that people haven't seen yet. Audiences have been asking for that since this whole mess started and wouldn't it be nice to start something completely original for once?

I have less concern about the casting, but I do care about number 3. the story of Snow White being there despite it supposedly a live action reboot. The issue with snow white is that one interview with rachel is not the one were talking about. Today I learned that people actually care about the story of Snow White (or at least pretend to care about it to farm rage in comment sections). All I could tell you about the story was that it was a pretty boring Kingdom Hearts level
Disney is technically doing what reactors are doing, changing original stuff here and there for different reasons to profit off of it, but its not just Disney.
What if Scar does something unspeakable and so the throne is given to Mufasa instead, because of his brother's disgraceful actions? What if Scar heroically saves Mufasa, but disappears/is presumed dead as a result, so Mufasa is crowned King in his place? What if Scar straight up denounces the throne, only to realize how badly he wants it *after* seeing Mufasa crowned King? What if their father notices Mufasa's superior physical strength as the brothers age (something Scar Admits to in the original) and favors him over Scar, forces the two to battle for the throne, and Mufasa begrudgingly wins...? There are so many ways this story can pan out and I am admittedly intrigued. 😅
I would aim to create a narrative that appeals to both modern and traditional audiences by blending elements that resonate with freethinkers and traditionalists alike. The storyline of Snow White would follow a straightforward approach, all characters will be “straight” no gays or lesbians (for conservative viewers)While I would introduce diversity through the depiction of various races among the dwarves (for liberal viewers)

There’s been heavy controversy about the Snow White live-action film ever since it was announced who would be portraying Snow White because everyone hates the actress because of some controversial stuff she said in the past while filming the movie before reshoots were made. Also, the reason why they didn’t hire little people to play the seven dwarves is that Peter Dinklage made a claim a while back when the movie was announced in the making that hiring little people for those roles is offensive and made a whole thing about it, so Disney backed off on having real-life little people performers and so they first hired tall diverse actors but then that leaked out and everyone hated it on the internet and so they made the decision on having the dwarves be CGI. This film doesn’t deserve all the negative bullshit it’s been receiving, at least not until it’s been released, because then we’ll know if the movie was a shit show or not, which, by Disney’s track record, it has a 50/50 possibility of being that. But until then, I think visually it looks fantastic; the actress sings beautifully, the evil queen actually looks badass and menacing, and the dwarves, again, you can tell they’re CGI and not in a good way, but it’s OK for me to handle it during the showing of the movie. All I want is for it to be well written and well directed, and all negatives of the CGI can be brushed aside for me, at least

Third - The Boss Babe attitude. In the clip, Snow White got the dwarves to clean up the house without lifting a finger herself.
And last but not the least, Rachael Zegler calling the Prince "weird" in that disastrous interview. There are more I think but I can't be bothered recalling it.
The way I took the snow white controversy is like this. Say for example I was making a superman movie and the marketing promoting the movie had the superman S everywhere, the trailer comes out and it's got the white man in costume with the shield and cape it even has the spacecraft landing in Kansas seemingly all the hallmarks. So people go to the movie expecting a traditional superman movie like the comics. But when you sit down to watch it, it isn't about superman. It's about the difficulties with the adoption processes in America, the hardships of being a foster parent and white privilege. Like none of the actual superman shit we thought we were going to see. Instead of just not making the movie it at all, or sticking with the story as is. Or better yet telling the story they want just not calling it superman.

She flat out said she didn't like the story or messaging behind it yet she took the job. Imo that's fine, it her opinion I disagree with it. I believe She auditioned hoping to, number one, get casted as a Disney princess, and number two, to be able to make a change to Snow White herself in a positive light. Let's tap into long time Disney fans who have grown with their movies. To announce that they will remake a classic like Snow White. But then the lead coming out saying the original was creepy and we need this beloved character to "be better". If you don't like the original, then don't make a "remake". Give them different costumes and change the title, make the different film you want. Don't disrespect loyal fans. It's not anti-woke to cast a white actress for a character that is defined by their skin color.

Rachel Zegler (who father is of Polish descent) has caused a lot of the controversy because she's an insufferable diva. She has fueled much of the controversy regarding her race with posts on X, including how she wasn't going to bleach herself for the role, how the character of Snow White would be another girl-boss (which Hollywood has proven time and time again they can't write and no one likes it when they do) instead of the character people love (which includes my sister), and even commented that they could write off the Prince entirely. Most recently, she has come out in favor of Hamas, compared to her costar Gal Gadot who is Israeli and served in the IDF.
