Qsil 216

How are they holding up its been a few years
Just curious how they're holding up?
Are you panels still working fine Greg? Any data showing performance degradation? I have tens of this type of broken panels too :)
Could you update performance of this solution ? You posted this some time ago so I wonder you could get some aging info now. Thanks for your time!
Panels that I did coat started to yellow after 2 years. Performance dropped about 10%
Thank you.. I just having some panels with issues.. I will try your method. If you need some help on broken inverters can ask me for help anytime you need l. Thanks
Does the Qsil retain dirt more that the original glass?
Is this able to be spray applied? I am interested!
How long did you wait between applications?
Please tell approximately how long the coating held up. Is it still performing at good rate?
the coating started to yellow after 2 years and the power dropped about 10%
@@BlkFireHawk427I bet there's a solvent to wipe off the sealant product and reapply for 2 more years🤔
We know a guy here in Arizona we can get the cracked ones for free. I’m happy to help anyone get them that need them LOL I am getting about 10 for myself and he said he has 40+ solar panels
Hi Angela, I’m in Marana are these still available?
what kind of resin are you using? Does it go with the sun and high temperature or are you using a special resin for this job?
Oscar Same this 2 part silicone resin qsil is all you need. It’s flexible (silicone) but clear and thin. It take a few days to get hard hard and never dries like fiberglass resin it’s always kinda silicone soft

You should do an update...
also more videos on whatever topics..
ie what's around you in Arizona.. I'm in the UK cold and damp etc.. with a few weeks of heat..
...as you did a good video..
I have just been given a broken panel .. and so have been trying to find out best ways to repair it.. there's a few ok videos but some that are not! One titled how to fix a broken solar panel took several minutes and smugly said buy a new one.. I reported it to YT!
Did you test the voltage and more importantly the current output of each panel?
and also the setup?
Is there any oxidation on the panels after 4/6 years?
How is it holding up?
You could of shown us the before & after on a meter. That would of been cool.
Any updates? how do they perform now?
Did you face any problem with the faulty panels and your solar system per se. They say it pulls down the overall efficiency. Kindly respond
what happens if they get wet when not sealed? will they continue to work with out a seal? nice job !
The electric circuit will rust and fail
If they get enough moisture inside, they will short out.
Any update to this Greg?
I am also here in arizona, and picked up quite a few panels just like these. They still produce 90% of the power which is amazing. Does the silicone over time change color or yellow?
Hi Michael, I have several broken panels too... for how long have you being using them? Do you percieve any performance degradation?
@Eddy Lockhart So I have had these shattered panels (the whole surface) for 5 years now, and they still produce 90%. One panel I coated with the two part marine Epoxy did yellow greatly after 2 years, so I don't use that one and I don't plan on coating the other shattered panels I have (bought for $25 each at the time). They were a great emergency back up option.
@@BlkFireHawk427you mean those five cracked panels are working 5 years without qsil216, right?
@@BlkFireHawk427btw what do you think, does it make sense to buy such a panel of 370 watts still producing almost 100% of power? it's shattered not heavily but it seems it doesn't really affect it. Price is 50$ for such panel

qsil216 ????
How they holding up
Great video!
what is the point of spreading it on whole panel? I have one broken place like a rock hit it. Is this like a shiny topcoat that improves the performance of the panel?
The glass usually shatters like an unlaminated windscreen. Cover wherever there is cracking to seal out water 💦
there is another video using this stuff for this purpose and he reckons it is a silicone product. it dries as if it is silicone too - it remains a bit sticky.
Does this dry hard like resin?
Well it is two part epoxy/resin so yes.
I know adding baking soda to crazy glue...hardens like glass,...have you tried adding baking soda to the epoxy that you use.. to fill in the missing glass...then do it like you are doing on the next coat.???? Haven't tried yet...best David
It will not work. Any cyanoacrylate based superglue will work with baking soda but epoxy won't. It's a completely different chemical process. Other than that, this is not epoxy but silicone.
Other than that, epoxy is not weather resistant. It will degrade and fog up in UV and also absorb water and become completely opaque.
Btw not trying to be a smartass, I'm just trying to prevent really expensive mistakes here
Isn't baking soda water soluble? Any exposed particles will wash away in the rain leaving a frosted surface I am guessing.
don;t do that!!!
Thank you 🙏
Thanks I just got two used like yo
Oxidation will definately be a problem!
Cost $35.00
وش يسوي ذا؟
Seals the broken glass
Some cell's completely damaged. Performance cannot be reversible.
Haha, this stuff costs more than the cost of 2 panels!
I'd highly advise no one to do this. Especially if the panels are on your house or anywhere people dwell. A cracked panel is a ground fault waiting to happen. So unless you know 1000% that you've sealed this panel completely, which I can tell you from seeing the manufacturing process myself you haven't sealed it, you will have ground faults. Hopefully, your inverter will catch them and shut the system down but they dont always catch them and if your system isn't grounded properly, it wont catch them at all. Ground faults are a big fire risk in the electrical industry. A lot of the safety measures that are taken in the electrical industry are done specifically to avoid ground faults because they cause fires. Also, those dark spots on the panels are burned out cells. Over time, more and more of those will happen. If it hasn't caught fire yet.
This is absolute nonsense. That's not what inverters do.
@@MikeWorcesterpart of what inverters do is to pick up faults in the system. Unless you have a really small, cheap inverter.
I believe your referring to a string inverter with micro inverters it should be fine the only problem with this over time is that the epoxy will start to yell after so many years I heard but he might get 5 to 10 years out of them I instal panels one of my customers had a bullet go right through his panel and it’s still producing right now and that was about 5 years ago with no epoxy or anything
@@ACAMPS.HITHOUSE either you have a string inverter, a string inverter with optimizers, or microinverters. You can’t have a string inverter with microinverters. Either one string inverters or micros either one should pick up that fault and shut down. I’ve dealt with arrays with bullet holes, hail damage, etc… One panel, sure go for it. There’s a small risk but for an entire array, it’s not worth risking your house and the people in it to save a few bucks. UL1699B read it
@@ACAMPS.HITHOUSE one thing I forgot to mention. I’m dealing with a site right now that has about 50MW of hail damaged modules. The number one concern here is fire. We’re running water trucks once daily to make sure vegetation doesn’t dry out. That’s $15k spent every month to make sure a fire doesn’t break out. That should let you know how important it is to not operate an entire array of damage mods.
Why can't you just use epoxy resin
You should do it in night time. You have shortened the cells with liquid. !!
You don’t have much knowledge about silicone
@@michaelbarahona7871 How do panels in this state would work? As I know, a cracked cell may interrupt the circuit of cells in series, killing the potential of the panel
@@CapitOG in these panels the cover glass is cracked, not the cell. You will still measure normal Open Circuit voltage even though the cover glass is cracked.
HOWdy G-M,
Thanks for the VIDEO
I have had success with Marine Grade exterior rated " SPAR URETHANE"
Available at MENARDS or LOWES
COOP
...
Isn't Spar urethane resistant to ultraviolet light, and thus reducing the output power of the solar panels?
@@DougWoodrow = YES = UV resistant = that is WHY I Chose it for the Fuel Gauge on my HARLEY
Looks like it did absolutely nothing.
I used clear coat in a spray bomb and it works great, your welcome.
Buy used is buying abused.
Since there isn't freezing this sealing is not necessary.
