@@g4nsj hi Ray thanks for the reply. I’m restoring my FRG 7 at the moment but struggling a bit without the correct test gear! I’ve watched a lot of your videos and they are most entertaining. Keep them coming. Cheers Lynton G4XCQ
Happy new year to you Ray 🍻 I have one of these, they are decent for the money, quite sensitive on LW and MW too. Nice Lowe, I have the cream/black coloured HF-125, I’m not far from Matlock and I regularly talk to one of the guys that worked at the Lowe factory. Another modern receiver worth checking if you haven’t already is the TEF6686. They are excellent for the size, popular with FM DX’ers as well. All best mate 73 Franco
Hello Ray and Happy New Years!! This will be a great radio for traveling. Just placed an order for one on amazon. They are $30US here. The schottky diode limiter really does work well. I installed them on a cheap sdr used as a station monitor in the ham shack. Cheers!, Bob in Washington
Hi Ray The little Lowe was first released in 1992 I owned one along with the AOR 7030 and a lovely JRC 535D fully loaded (Filters) All great receivers and I remember selling my 7030 to a chap in Tasmania, a fortune in postage hi hi Anyway I now run a Yaesu FT-710 and the RX is amazing, probably better than my FT-DX10 Happy New Year Ray and I look forward to your future adventures
Good morning Ray. I have had my ATS-20+ for about 4 months now it works fine but has a very annoying pulsing for about 5 minutes after start up. Have a great new year.
Hi Terry, it's funny you should mention pulsing. Mine does that for a while after switch on but then it seems to fade away. This may sound daft but, I've found that when switching on, if I slide the switch accross just enough to make contact, there's no pulsing. If I push the switch right accross, it pulses. Strange, but true! I must look into it. Happy New Year! Cheers, Ray.
"If you want a decent communications receiver you won't get one for 30 quid". In an auction a few years ago I acquired a working FRG 8800 receiver complete with VHF converter for exactly £30! I still have it! G3ZZO
Hi, the Lowe HF150 were manufactured around 1995. I had one myself. Very good set, I was stupid. I used it as a part exchange for my first HF tranciever. Happy New Year. David M0DUU

That was a good and jolly review! I am obliged for that. It is fine that you tested and play a part of the broadcast in 6040 kHz with the ATS-20я+ receiver! 73""s de Pertti OH6FRS
Happy New Year, Ray. Some people decry these radios as "cheap rubbish", but can you imagine what we would have thought of one in the 1960s when we were SWL on our one- or two-valve regens? 😂 Meanwhile, gods bless those "backward" nations that still broadcast on "proper" radio - I wish there were more... de M1GWZ.
Nice little portable radio, and if it went down to the VLF band for receiving sferics at around 2 KHz with a built in 50 Hz filter , WOW! Hint hint to the manufacturer.
Be careful with the encoder on the ATS-20+ as it will break/fail to work on you. Dont spin it to fast. also you can adjust the frequency of the bfo frequency on it too.
That really is good value for 30 quid, not just for the circuit but for the case, display and switches too. Other radios these days incorporate sensitive receiving chips, like the cheap xhdata range from China that's around 10 quid on amazon. Interference Ray? I would think that you haven't got a smart meter yet to further wreck your receiving pleasure. I have one, not by choice and it makes reception very difficult at home, regardless of equipment and antennas used.
about the only thing i pick up on short wave here in the US is Christian programing and sone other foreign programs I can't understand! i used to be able to listen to a station here in the US that played oldies music that switched brodcast stations and never heard it again! theres some times im able to pick up world news but its a rareity! on AM brodcast here at night its nice to be able to hear stations when coditions are just right!
I get a lot of stuff on my Kenwood here in the states. Those oldies used to be on 9395 in Florida I think. I prefer the ham and Cb stuff. Talking about old cars just now on 27415. I also like the dsp101’s or clones with waterfall although you may need a am broadcast filter but waterfall is nice. Tuning and bandwidth filter could be better.
Great video Ray. Radio Romania always has great audio. I often listen on one of my comms receivers.
