    I've learned over the years of gardening that you can't really generalize when it comes to plants. There are basics that you follow but you need to keep an eye on plants to see what they're doing. Many of my plants that were the same lived and died after planting so I learned to just keep checking them daily and water not water, move, fertilize... all these things to keep them healthy. It's really a full time job and I love doing it!

  • @GainingDespair

    I always grew these inside of large pots but as soon as I put them in the ground they died the climate is pretty right here on the gulf coast and they do very will in full sun all day just anything you think would bake a normal plant alive lavender love. The only problem is we have a lot of orange clay which dries rock hard in the middle of summer but when it comes towards the rain/hurricane season it holds onto a lot of water.
    Really no great way to grow them here outside of a pot but you can make a mix to use for potted plants. You will mostly want to mix this as two seperate groups or just have all the parts individual and mix as you fill the pots but I like to semi layer the soil mix I use. First I will drill out the bottom of the pot just any where you can fit a hole make one and put about a inch worth of small pebbles there. Mix about 50/50 perlite and sand, on top of this a small layer of sand to prevent the perlite from floating up. After this It's mostly a mix of peatmoss free potting soil and sand mixed will this last part should be roughly 1/2 of the total volume of the median in the pot.
    You want just enough soil for it to hold SOME water but not to remain water logged, it really depends on your climate but in mine any less soil and the pot will dry out in 2-3 days max. I water mine semi regularly to keep the top part moist but have the bottom half very lose media to help with drain as it will not really hold water just helps remove excess. There really isn't any store brand potting soil I would recommend for these plants as all of them contain insane amounts of peatmoss which will rot the root ball. Even the "desert" blends hold to much water, the best from my experience is just enough soil to absorb some water but not remain wet.
    You basically want to water it enough so the media is humid from the moisture but not wet and they will do well

    I live in South East Australia and thought I had the perfect spot for lavender (have always dreamed of one day having my own field of lavender); poor soil, sun all day and on a slope. Planted 30 x L. Grosso without success; planted 30 more without success. Both times added a little gravel when planting. Today ordered 20 more but this time will pot them on into slightly larger pots before planting out. Refuse to give up!

    Hello Brian. I have the other side of the lifecycle. How to deal with an OLD plant. As I recall, we planted it when my son was, um, 7? First grade I think, so about 2003ish. Anyway, it is at the corner of the house and sprawled all over. What I need is trimming, pruning, deadheading and old plant management. I made the mistake of letting the first plant grow quite large, and did not know that it’s not a hedge plant, so when I cut it back, it never grew any more on that side. Any thoughts would be appreciated.

    Can you use sand from the beach to mix in with your soil or does it have to be specific sand ?

      If it's a beach on the ocean no. They would be too much salt content.

      @@NextLevelGardening Yeah, I've been watching a lot of beekeeping vids. Seems like they're rather docile when they're happy. And if they're pollinating, they're really happy :D Can't wait to see more vids from you, been binge watching since that recent viral Tomato video blew up. Gratz on that by the way! I thought this video was going to have an answer to my clay soil. Unfortunately, if you add sand to clay, it makes a kind of cement. And you certainly can't just amend the soil where you dig or it's just going to hold water when it rains.

    • @dynamatlancer
      @dynamatlancer 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      No, water only when the top 2 inches of the soil is dry(with fast draining soil of course). I'm not sure about a lamp, but my indoor LED grow lights did the trick. You really shouldn't need grow lights unless of course you're growing them from seed to a few inches tall(can take 6 months).
