In fact there will be a downside for normal users. Google and apple check the coding and the infos collected by the each app that wants to be listed in their store. No suspicious apps allowed. With this 1 year free model, the Indus store will be inviting malicious app developers which will be a high risk to everyday users.

India is not like china, we are not closed, everyone will opt to go for a global solution rather than restricting themselves into an ecosystem. India is notorious for cheap quality items whether it be software or hardware but an average indian who is looking into market only wants the best product in the market has to offer. Indus can only grow if they enfoce a premium quality for their marketplace while playing nice with developers. This will let them open a new market just like what apple is doing.
