Great work to simplify the wiring. Also, Bachman locos are wired for dual polarity because UK has opposite DC polarity that USA, because of course they do…. So extra wires running through the model to accommodate that issue that can be eliminated as well. Great 1st chapter, can’t wait to see part 2.

Thanks George. Trevor knows his stuff and I learned a lot from making this series with him!

This generation of Climax is actually so old it doesn't have the polarity switch. They started that sometime in the early to mid 2000s, and there would be a second switch for that in the smokebox. This engine is from like 1999 or 2000, before they did that. In engines that have that, I always rip that stuff out as well like you suggest.
It was great getting to finally work with a Blunami. Thanks for all that you and the rest of the team at Soundtraxx do to give the large scale folks great sound decoders that can keep up with the demands of the engines.

hello ,always enjoy your videos,,i was wondering does the blunammi board have a firebox flicker function in it?

Does anyone have access to 3D printing files or spare parts for the climax power trucks gear assembly. My recently purchased engine has the same issues as the one featured in the video here except the whole gearbox needs replacing and all the gears. I tried searching for a donor engine but have had no luck for weeks. If anyone could provide some useful tips or information I would greatly appreciate it.

Great video series and perfect timing as I also have a 1st Gen Climax I want to upgrade to Blunami/battery
Did you end up putting new LEDs in the firebox to replace the ones that were on the circuit board? If so, what did you use?

I didn't do anything with the firebox. The goals for this project did not include full use of all the lighting effects. I figure that I will eventually redo the firebox and cab interior lights.

I always liked the firebox flicker but on my gen1 Climax and Shay it never seemed to work that well. From what I can see the Blunami has all the flicker functions built in so should just need the right LEDs for that

When you had the bottom plate of the drive units , why wouldn't you talk about inspecting gears , axle bearings , and lubrication . Where is the follow up to this , it should include replacing bulbs (assumed) with LEDs and firebox
