This was the best clinic I saw at the 2024 NMRA convention in Long Beach. I think it’s awesome that this is now permanently available to a wider audience - thank you.
I am a former professional Firefighter and also a former truck vacuum truck driver in the Prudhoe Bay Alaska oilfield area. Exposure to so many potentially deadly situations honed my sense of situational awareness. I always appreciate critical information well presented and explained. Great job on this incident and on the video. Thank you.
Amazing video, John! Thanks for bringing this brave account to your channel to share the perils of this hazmat spill. His recounted experience was quite educational to us viewers and railfans. -from Thomas Lincoln Pilling
As a professional that cleans up derailments, I liked every part of this except the volunteers hand digging next to the anhydrous tank car. If that dirt was retaining the product or holding back a crack from rupturing, they could’ve all died. Tough situation though and I’m sure those of you that were there did the best you could to mitigate and find the best course of action. Very good lessons here. Thank you for sharing. Seems like the anhydrous hazard might have led to the petroleum wax being overlooked.
Fellow firstR Responder here Hazmat Unit Officer and sometimes Incident Commander, I was there at the start CERLA and dedicated Haz Mat Apparatus.
I guess if your going to have a derailment, you couldn't have picked a better place. Great video. Very informative.

The workers who dug the car out were trained and wearing proper CPC. The pictures were shot out of the actuual order of operation.
Very informative. As a retired bus accident investigator, that was great. Thank you.
That was the best informative presentation from rescuer’s view I’ve ever heard! 👍
I'm glad you found it helpful.
This was a VERY interesting story. Thank you!
Thanks for sharing. Much appreciation for your hard work.
Fascinating!
I remember seeing a presentation about this in the 2024 NMRA Convention in Long Beach. It was certainly something interesting.
I think the first order of business would be to transfer the anhydrous ammonia to some truck tank trailers.
Due to excess flow devices under the valves the car has to be within 15 degres of upright to be unloaded.
Dang that's crazy
