Awww thank you so much for sharing 🙏. I’m glad that my cover can bring you a bit closer to home when you start to miss it. Hawaii will always be here but you take the Aloha Spirit wherever you go!
I love this song as a local big island boy who is half way around the world 🌍 I often listen to this on a bus ride when I want to think of home. Uncle Matthew used to sing at the zippy’s in Hilo for awhile and always loved seeing him around. You sing this song so good.
Mahalo nui! Yes here are the lyrics that I recall! “Kalapana is an area so quiet and serene Where families never use the word ‘me’ Togetherness was practiced day and night Kaimu to us is a beautiful sight OOh ooh OOh OOh OOh OOh OOh oooh The road at one time was gravel and cinder If hungry you could go to any house for dinner All homes were open and for people in need We despise them that show selfishness and greed Coconuts were split in half for the pigs They eat the husk and wait for the break of twigs They run the place yet move very slow For who’s going to bother them They’ll squeal and we’ll know Kalapana is an area so quiet and serene Where families never use the word ‘me’ Togetherness was practiced all day and night Kaimu to us is a beautiful sight Oooh oooh Oooh OOh Oooh OOh Oooh OOh Pahoa is a town about 13 miles away Most families go there, especially on pay day Produce was measured by pounds and not by kilos Just continue you on and you’ll end up in Hilo Pipiholo ka’au (the end)
Come back to this cover from time to time just to relax and wind down out here in the mainland when I find myself missing the islands. Mahalo 🤙🏽

Yes here are the lyrics that I recall!
“Kalapana is an area so quiet and serene
Where families never use the word ‘me’
Togetherness was practiced day and night
Kaimu to us is a beautiful sight
OOh ooh
OOh OOh
OOh OOh
OOh oooh
The road at one time was gravel and cinder
If hungry you could go to any house for dinner
All homes were open and for people in need
We despise them that show selfishness and greed
Coconuts were split in half for the pigs
They eat the husk and wait for the break of twigs
They run the place yet move very slow
For who’s going to bother them
They’ll squeal and we’ll know
Kalapana is an area so quiet and serene
Where families never use the word ‘me’
Togetherness was practiced all day and night
Kaimu to us is a beautiful sight
Oooh oooh
Oooh OOh
Oooh OOh
Oooh OOh
Pahoa is a town about 13 miles away
Most families go there, especially on pay day
Produce was measured by pounds and not by kilos
Just continue you on and you’ll end up in Hilo
Pipiholo ka’au (the end)
