@@BooRayWiscoTrue that. Lots of predators begin eating while the prey is still alive and kicking. Coyotes kill mature death through blood loss and shock from multiple bite wounds during extended chases. “Old age” deaths are due to starvation from worn down, ineffective teeth.
I got to say I'm 51yo and I haven't seen a group of young men as dedicated to recovering an animal as this. Proud of yall. This is the pinnacle of what a good hunting video is. Great job.

I could tell that he was hit front of leg, brisket area but what I will say the way y’all handled that after the shot was top notch. This should be taught to every hunter. Without y’all’s patience, you would of never recovered that deer and not sure he would of died from the shot but probably the coyotes would of finally caught him and ended it that way so thank you for showing such sportsmanship in recovering this amazing buck. Congratulations.
What should be taught to everyone is do NOT take unethical shots. If you don’t have a clear path to the vitals, don’t risk making the animal suffer by guessing like this doofus did.

Taking a long shot on an obscured animal isn't the way it's done for many good reasons. At least they followed up on him and dispatched him eventually. Hopefully he'll learn but I doubt it!
200 yards with vegetation obstructing...Not to mention he's in Iowa, where that's NOT a big buck, and these dudes hunt everyday. I'm embarrassed for them.
The only video we all saw was from a separate camera - not from the shooter’s scope. So maybe you’re speaking out of turn my friend.

Hey Jake….when you film your family hunt this year…it needs to last longer than 20 minutes. That’s my favorite hunt of the year. I love all the video…you at the restaurant…the camp…hunting. It makes me wish my dad was still around. Love this hunt buddy.

When I saw the deer’s reaction and the way the blood trail looked, I knew it would be a long night for y’all. I am glad you got him, and I am glad you followed up with what happened with the shot. I have tracked a bunch of blood trails, and at times, I have convinced myself the shot was better than it was. But that is part for the process. Thanks for putting it out there.
Editing all the ups and downs into an entertaining and interesting story is equally unparalleled especially when not one of these guys know how it will play out. Amazing

The bullet thru the grass was an amazing catch. I also love that you guys are bringing back the polaroid camera. I grew up in the 80's so it's a cool addition to an already amazing show.

I liked the follow-up shot. It rang out for 30 seconds, and then he exhaled a cloud of superheated air from holding his breath. The best part is knowing everyone within ear shot heard it and knew a biggin hit the dirt.

I just watched this videos. I hunted before I moved to Chicago. You did a good job. Bill Winkie has a couple videos where he hit. One like that. Some can survive that shot. If shot early he said he would keep pushing the deer so it doesn't stop bleeding. And he never found it. He was sure it was a good enough shot. You did everything right.
Jake is the man. 1st thing he did at recovery is tuck his tongue in, then wipe his hand down him. Giving him the respect he deserves. Very well done jake

We need a cooking with THP (Ok, Nick) series. The crew does enough traveling and stomping about that you have to have figured out good traveling grub. Combine that with having more chances to cook up fresh venison than most, you've got some winning content.

I completely understand we need to abide by laws in regards to shooting hours especially with the scrutiny these guys can be under with the YT channel! But honest question wouldn’t it be better as sportsman to end the deers agony and shoot after shooting light? It’s all with interpretation of the law I’m just curious what the law would say if they did shoot and put it down when they first found it during the track…?
Highly illegal would you want to lose your gun and hunting privileges
@@jerryscray1789 if you have a clean ethical anchoring shot on a deer your tracking after dark I highly doubt any DNR officer is going to take away your hunting privileges and firearm if you did decide to end the animal’s suffering.
@@jerryscray1789I’ll risk it to put the deer out of its misery. My job is to make sure it doesn’t suffer.
I would imagine it’s illegal because of how easy it would be to misexecute the finishing shot in the dark. Not just taking the shot but confirming it’s the same deer as the one you wounded. Also for DNR sake I would think hearing shots at dark is a good indicator of illegal harvesting.
Most game wardens will completely understand and not say a word, but filming it is a different story. I would have ended it when Jake could see him from the log. But they would have had to edit it out

Would you take the shot again? My initial thought was there was to much grass and weeds to see his vitals and front shoulder, but I realize we see the cameras angle.

I appreciate the way you guys are in general the way you hunt is a bonus ..ethical and genuine
It was a good follow up and finish, however I’m not sure the first shot was an ethical shot. We’ve all had bad shots, I’m by no means perfect, but taking a shot through that much tall grass and while the bucks head was down presents an opportunity for it move, and then you’re really not placing your shot into the intended area. The fact that at that range you’d likely need to account for bullet drop, and dropping even more due the deflection of the additional grass, means he got really lucky to have hit it at all. The fact this deer didn’t bleed out and die until his second shot 12 hrs later puts it into the unethical range.
Great job making the tough decisions to recover the deer boys! Lessons learned I will take with me

Great plan, well executed as far as the recovery...most would have pursued right after the shot and probably messed up a succsessful end result.
