    Even with half the attention to detail with regards to fittings and levers - it would still be a gorgeous bike compared to the modern electronics laden plastic trash!

    A friend of mine bought one of those because it was so cheap, he didn't trust the machine work so he tore it down completely and cleaned it up. He found metal filings in there and some rough work. He balanced the rods and pistons and just checked everything as he assembled it. It is now a fine bike similar to a BMW. He probably extended the life of the bike like at least 5 fold.

    I believe that it is based on the prewar BMW but they got or took the rights from the Russian Ural! If the quality is as good as the Ural, it is very bad indeed!! And that is too bad!! A well built, well priced and dependable vintage bike would be appreciated in today's market!

    These look beautiful, from a distance, unfortunately when you get close up the fit not finish and especially the castings are terrible. I know they are copy of BMW and the like, and no one would expect that quality, but these are pretty bad. I'm still considering buying one for me and the granddaughter, they look cool as fugk, from a distance, and you could probably fix them with chewing gum some string and a banana.

    • @rationalmartian
      @rationalmartian 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      NO. That is bad advice. Hard break-in is a load of old bollocks.
      One can however be too easy going and gentle. This could glaze the bore and rings and not let them wear and seat properly. Most heat is transferred from the piston to the cylinder bore and out to the cooling system through that first (top) piston ring. The rings bedding in nicely with the bore is crucial to compression and engine longevity. All the other brand new components will be much happier too. And it is easier to spot or hear something starting to go amiss when you are not thrashing the tits off the thing. There will be plenty of time for that.
      My advice is follow the manufacturers recommendations. If you look you will find they all pretty much agree and recommend the same procedure. And it is actually in their best interest that you end up with a good engine that lasts. Let's also not forget they are the ones who also designed and built the thing.

    Rode sidecars for years BMW , moto guzzi/`steib, Harley Davidson/ motorvation spyder and the Chinese knock off w/side car.. liked them all. I am 85 now. The only problem i ever had was
    With the chinese bike . I purchased it from an extremely dishonest man in west virginia. I drove from WIsconsin to st albans wva picked he bike up with my trailer. As soon i got home i gassed it up and the paint peeled off in strips i called. Him. He was quite rude. "What do you want me to do about it" was his answer. The title he gave me was a fake and i never was able to get it licensed or registered. He operated as a specialist in importing chinese bikes.Scooter Bob was his name. Be warned. ⁰

      The Chinese Chang Jiang is more representative of the 1938 BMW R71. The Russian version, the Ural has a lot of metallurgy issues. The Chinese Chang Jiang doesn't have those issues but has other quality issues. I prefer the Chinese version

    Hmm. They LOOK pretty; but Chinese engineering is notoriously BAD. Show me these SAME BIKES one year from now, if they still exist. Bet they're not made anywhere near as well as German BMW's, in either metallurgy or construction. And Japanese construction stands head and shoulders above almost everyone else. Take exception if you will, but check out "Chinese motorcycles" on You Tube; for every one that says their Flung Poo is great, there are a thousand that expose them as junk. Breaking frames, flaking chrome, and engine failures are just the surface. One video compares a Mikuni carb to a Chinese carb, and the superiority of the Mikuni is painfully obvious. Hey, I wish the Chinese well in these endeavors, but they REALLY need to improve their quality, as Japan did in the 60's.

      @tyrssen1 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I stand by what I said. No need to take my word for it; my scooter mysteriously died after 6 months, and You Tube is FILLED with videos as mentioned above. Friends in the Philippines tell me the same thing. And, my favorite pic from China is of a building that fell over, while still under construction. Chinese quality is CRAP. The bitch of it is, those bikes ARE pretty. Pretty, they can obviously do; quality construction, they can't. The DESIGN may have been around forever, but I repeat, show me THOSE EXACT SAME BIKES a year from now.

      I have to agree with you. The crome bits on the one I helped deliver.( My other halfs son paid £100 for a 2011 125 that didn't work) are plastic with a crome coating. The thing was also rusting like a good un. The problem that they fsce is even if they did build it with top quality materials would you go out a buy a FONG SHEN 750. Got my new bike today lads, what the HARLEY SPORTSTER you looked at, no its a FONG SHEN 750.

      The sidecars are over 350 kg, with what feels like an elastic frame, almost no brakes or suspension. Terrifying at speed. Luckily they top out at about 80kmh.

      The one shown at 6:00 , it's gearbox explodes just after that video cuts off.

    • @motorbikefu5632
      @motorbikefu5632 6 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      These aren't new, they're classics. You aren't wrong about Chinese quality made for exports at the current point in time, as they're terrible. That's because everyone wants cheap, and China will make stuff cheaper than it's safe to make them. However, classic bikes made for their own market are pretty good.
      With China, as with everywhere, you get what you pay for. The only difference is China will go even cheaper than everywhere else to the point the bike is almost unusable. If you buy equivalent priced stuff, it's just as good as everywhere else.
