After Thoughts about the Video: To get the absolute best results you would need to remove the cover from the seat and lay it flat. You will need to heat, stretch and pin it to a board to get it to original. Then apply the patch. HOWEVER, if you do all that you might as well just use new vinyl. Whatever you do, don't duct tape over your seat. It ruins the vinyl and falls off in weeks/months. This can be ridden just like original.

sixtyfiveford is a hold over from previous generations where if they knew the basics of how things work they could literally fix anything, thanks for another great video and I think I'm the 1st comment wooohooo!
You mean he is a hold over from when men were men instead of lettuce popsicles like the current generation of "men".
exactly@@jacobwrona
Lettuce popsicles. That’s a new one to me. But yeah, kinda like that…🤣
@@jacobwrona This guy thinks he's a cowboy, and makes the vroom vroom noise when he rides his boomer-cycle... which is almost definitely a Harley, because what else would it be? 😂😂😂
You are the emperor of innovation. Well done, as always. You deserve an honorary degree in household and shop economics. Your videos are a master class in salvage.
Thank you very much!
Nice repair! Many years back I had to have the booths in my restaurant reupholstered. The cost was way over what I thought reasonable. No TH-cam back then but I went to the library to get an idea how to reupholster. I drove to the Bowery in Manhattan and bought the fabric & went at it. I left the part to be reupholstered & the fabric outside in the sun to be able to stretch it. At night I laid the fabric on top of the pizza oven ( on top of some wooden dough boxes) to warm it up to be able to stretch t out. The first couple took some time but once I got the hang of it I got them all done in a week. This was done while still operating in off peak hours & at night when closed. Had quite a bit of fabric left. Later I used some to repair the seat on my Wheel Horse tractor and still had a lot let over.
Not factory but unique & stylish LOL. Saved about 80%
Stay well, Joe Z
Was it fabric or vinyl? Did the material comply with commercial fire and medical codes?
@@midwestmafia8391 " material comply with commercial fire and medical codes?????" LOL This was back in the early 70s. The material was a commercial vinyl used by upholstery shops.
@@JOEZEP54 70s that’s been longer than many years back. Ha!

Ahhh dumpster diving…. I’ve actually recovered a bunch of seat from old couch cushions and materials I pulled from the dumpster… the back of couches and old recliners and stuff are usually spotless…. Just jump out with your knife and skin the whole back of a black leather couch and u have enough material to do several atv seats, motorcycle seats, dining room table chairs… best one I have done by far was I found a king size headboard in the dumpster at a nearby apartment complex that had a huge panel of real leather in the middle of it… trash man wasn’t happy that I made him wait but I cut the entire panel out and threw it in my trunk… came back and redone the seat on an older Harley sportster with it… turned out beautiful
Absolutely. I have maybe too much spare material and foam being stored.
Dang I didn't believe that repair would turn out as nice as it did. Awesome man
You can put a little vaseline on the threads of the shoo goo to keep the cap from gluing to itself. If the cap cracks like mine did, I found a toothpaste cap makes a good replacement.
For gluing shoe soles I found contact cement works better, It's what the cobblers use.
I have been stumped on how to fix my obsolete park brake cables! Now, I have a park brake again!!!!!
Sweeeet!!!!
Thank you so much!
I have some old waterbed patch kits that I use for repairs like this. Does a good job and ends up looking about the same as yours. Matching the old faded color is always a booger for sure! (especialy if your color blind like me😵💫)
I learned this trick from an old upholsterer guy, I repaired a barber's chair that way and it lasted for years. Thousands of people sat on it and it still held. Excellent technique! 15:20 I'm glad I didn't throw that knife away, I can't wait to try it on a piece of foam, thank you! Greetings from Croatia
You're the only guy I've seen with a sharp pocket knife since I was a kid going to the flea market and there was an old guy selling knives that would sharpen anything for free. That was 35 years ago.
Everyone at work has a folding butter knife.
I prefer a simple Stanley utility knife.
Ginger always puts a smile on my face. That patch was extremely well done, thanks for sharing 👍.
Hey thanks
Was flashing back to one of those 80's vinyl repair infomercials.😅
True. They still sell those little kits. They never work like they claim.
Looked better before you painted it.
AWESOME dog BTW! Instant thumbs up for that cool dog!
You sir can fix anything put in front of you well done
Impressive so that's how the seat repair guys fix the used dealer seat rips. Love the backyard organized junk. You definitely get every penny worth out of your property. I'm sure you got it for a great deal long ago.
Ginger!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! another great fix it video. Going to try this on my Suzuki TS90 seat.
Pro Tip, try applying your shoe goo with an ice cube. Sounds odd, I know. But I used to do it on all of my skate shoes back in the day. It works extremely well.🤘🏼
I was just about to comment this same thing! Been using an ice cube to smooth out shoe goo on skate shoes since the 1980’s
Shoe-goo ice cube brothers 4 life ❤💯@@mothsmusik
Great job....
Maybe not perfect, but, WAY better than the torn seat.... Way better.
end of the world and this is they guy you want with you. super creative and cost effective!
That's pretty ingenious Moe! I learned something new. I love Shoe Goo. I've found by putting in the freezer it will last indefinitely, you just have to thaw it out before use.
I've used goop for years on a wide verity of projects love that stuff.
My wife turned me on to shoe goo always that or E 6000 in the garage.....Nice repair on atv seat.
I'm a painter by trade, industial/automotive type.. i have some knowledgable information that may inspire you to test and make a video.
"Don't you hate throwing away seemingly good gaskets? Well now you don't have to! Or how about the goopy mess of gasket maker smeared over old gaskets? Well not anymore! Reuse your old gaskets with confidence!" Lol, having fun but totally serious.
I accidentally discovered how to expand gaskets.. here is how:
We have a metal can to discard lacquer thinner/solvent rags into, and sometimes you just throw in your latex gloves too.. we'll upon clean up and emptying the can.. they became SUPER LARGE GLOVES! Which got me thinking.. if the solvents can do that to gloves.. then what else? Gaskets! Reusable gaskets!
I think the secret in experimenting will be the solvents and their time in a sealed container. I think wax and grease remover will work the best and the fastest. It's likely the vapor than soaking, so get some rags soaked up with the solvent and seal them in a paint can or something close to air tight. Time it, and then gauge it to see how much it grew. It also may vary with gasket material. I believe the expanding is irreversible/permanent, but you'll have to test.
Akzo Nobel Grip Guard M600 surface cleaner/wax & grease remover, #386324.
You can also patch over the spot with some tarp material and make it stronger than it was before
I just use contact cement. An exacto knife works really well too. But a hair dryer is really needed. Thanks for the video.
Contact cement for sure is great. I only like to use it though if I have access to the inside ie doing the repair inside out with the vinyl off. It's definitely more of a smoother natural feel
Pool table covers make excellent seat covers and you can often get up to half a dozen seat covers out of one for less than the cost of a single bought seat cover...
Not really a cover as such but somewhere I worked used old inflatables stuffed with a memory foam pillow and strapped to the seat on their quads and other machinery, if the seats were beat up. They had to be the right size but they worked really well and cost next to nothing. One seat had a Thomas the tank engine on it 🚂 😂 💀 a bit weird but funny

This is not meant to be a flawless repair. It's less work to make a brand new cover than make this flawless.

Always great stuff. Thanks so much, as always. You're appreciated.
when spreading e6000 or goo , use an ice cube to smooth it out.. works a treat... also you can thin the goo to make e6000ish stuff
What do you use to thin?
I have used black RTV to seal the foam on black lawn mower seats. Looks OK but keeps the water from destroying the foam
Yeah, mower seats are the worst. I attempted to spray an entire one down with rubberized paint(like flex seal). The foam just kept soaking it up and it never looked good. It was a waste of money m
Well Done Moe . She Looks Stable to Me 👍
I’ve lightly wet the foam and used spray foam to fill then used acetone to shape the foam before recovering it.
Nice work! Looks good as “almost “ new! Color is off but you can’t have everything. I like it!
Great video thank you for sharing this amazing skill.
Super cool. Wouldn't have thought of heating and stretching the vinyl or using shoe goo. Thanks!
Shoe goo is a stable in my garage as well. You've added a tip I never tried. Applying paint to the glue was something I'll remember the next time.
Sure would like to have you for a neighbor! As always great job!!
Wow! Nice work! I need a way to repair (without replacing) a deterioration headliner in a car...
Ginger rulz!
I have saved a few headliners with the spray contact cement. It's annoying because on some vehicles that foam layer just turns to sand. I have also used shoe goo on smaller areas with good results. Problem is if you press on it too hard the glue soaks through the fabric headliner material and you can see your repair
Sure beats the cost of new upholstery and last sweet 👍 Ginger doesn't like leaves ? 🙂
I've done similar to cloth seats with denim as my backer and fabric glue as my bonder the fabric glue seems to last really well but I'm sure the bonding the glue that you used works great nice to see the idea of the shavings of the material sprinkled into the glue area to blend it better I have to do my Dodge pick up seat thanks.
That repair looks pretty good. I love the 'goop' family of glues.
I have a crack in my vinyl 80’s dashboard and I’m going to try your idea of mixing paint with e6000 to fill the crack since it’s self-leveling.
You do a great job on all of your videos..
Great video, tips & how-to, Thank you!
I've used shoe goo for so many different things but I have always sewn the vinyl after glueing. I have noticed saliva works way better than just water too for smoothing it out.
Ya but jb weld, glues, silicone they all taste bad when you need to do larger areas. I do the same thing
It's a lot of work but the outcome looks great 👍
Thanks 👍
I like this great idea. Might be able to use that paste paint on my computer chair.
Be careful on that 230 them frames crack the engine mounts fatigue and they also break causing the chain to jump and bust the stator cover, all that aside great seat repair
I've got a Peugeot moped with a failing seat cover. I might need to recover the whole thing, but I'm gonna give this a try first. If I fail, I still get the experience.
YOU ARE PRETTY GOOD !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Maximum overdrive saw. looks great
I'm going to be doing this soon
I still use the Elmer glue skin but I use it for pulling wood slivers
Hi great fix , well did. 👍🐝🌞
Great Job! You can also use a hack saw blade to cut foam. I wonder how it would look using a double blind stitch with a little sho goo at the seam to blend....
True, a double blind stitch would work. Problem I find is the wasted/spare material isn't there on a vinyl atv seat. You need to be in from the edge at least 1/8 inch but probably closer to 1/4 on each side for the thread to not rip. So you're burning 3/8-1/2 inch of material which will pucker the spot where the stitch stops on each side. Also, in this scenario where I have the curved rip going a separate direction, there's not enough vinyl to pull, on the x and y axis without severe bunching. Now car seat with a straight rip, that's a different story. ATV seats only have one and if you replace all the vinyl it's not a big deal with color match/ style. So with an ATV you're fighting a compromise of its less work just to replace the one seat than it is to repair it . A vehicle has a passenger seat and back seat that all need to match so you have to save the driver's seat that's ripped.
Dynomite🤙Thanks brother for another insightful video
Thanks man
Awesome to keep it original .. What do they say you can turn up cucumber into a pickle but you can't turn a pickle into a cucumber
Great video again thanks for sharing 👍👍
🤘 🤪🤘.........Maybe next video show how to put on a new vinyl seat using marine grade vinyl and make stencil to paint white Suzuki logos on the vinyl.....I've been meaning to get a sewing awl and learn how to hand stitch vinyl and leather with the colored stitching. To get the look of hand stitched interior in high end sports cars. & custom motorcycle seats.
I show reupholstering a seat on a scooter on this video. It's only 2ish minutes Skip forward to 20:40 th-cam.com/video/hTlQPPW-L5s/w-d-xo.htmlsi=kdyOPfUnzqnk-7f0&t=20m42s
In my past I owned an Upholstery shop, I found for good precision cuts in foam, to use a serrated butter knife... fyi
Nice work... Another great video...
Ginger would stub up and not ride with je and probably bite as well. I just patch holes with anything I can find or duct tape is a fancy fix. Blessings
interesting. i usually start looking at fixing foam and whole new cover and staples but, if you want the oem look you also need a stencil and vynel paint so i'm not knocking this at all.
Another cool informative vid! Thanks!
ALWAYS!!! amazing content! Always!
Thanks again!
Good Job. Came out well.
Pure gold Moe.
awesome👍👍sauce!
MM77 Approved 👍🏼👍🏼……………………………………………………………….If you want to show people how to repair the corners of a 07 Polaris Ranger seat, I would be more than happy to let you repair mine!! LOL
Hey man dishwashers soap like dawn works good for smoothing
I'm sure it works. Problem is my tongue is always there....
Good job again.
I've been experimenting with a mixture of oil base spar urethane One part urethane to eight parts mineral spirits I'm wiping it on my tractor That sits outside all the time under a cheap leaky tarp I'm done several of my vinyl seats some vinyl seem to just drink it up it's gone in no time but I noticed some of the vinyls really soften up Where's anything else I've tried doesn't do anything One of these days I might try some of that Wintergreen oil slather it down and throw it in a tight bag for a few days like I do with the rubber parts
Interesting!
Spit works on smoothing epoxy also
It's funny that I know what JB weld and other random epoxies taste like because of this.
@@sixtyfiveford lol
👍👍👍 Brilliant. Thank you
This is art!
I wonder if it would be easier to put the glue in a syringe and apply it after you get the patch inside the hole? I've done something similar with caulking in tight spaces.
Problem is the glue is so tacky, it'll stick and pull out your patch.
I would remove the seat cover. Patch the hole on the inside and on the outside put a few ribs (like new MX bike seats have) or a heat transfer on the seat cover.
If you spend the time removing the seat cover you might as well just replace it.
Nice job as always
I need to do this to my driver's seat of my truck, but it looks so tedious!
Labor intensive, but a great job that looks like it’ll hold up well.
Could sow a motorcycle patch for a jacket over the rip. That would look cool
nicely done
I'm sure you already have one, but would a hot wire foam cutter work in this instance/ or would it affect the foam in a bad way? i have terrible outcomes using a knife when cutting foam.
Hot wire foam cutters work well.
I seriously have doubts that repair will last very long with the stress of people sitting on it plus the UV rays beating down on it.
PLEASE update us to let us know how long it lasts.
wow, thats Fantastic
thank you
Thanks for sharing
add dish detergent to your water.
i stabbed my scooter seat with something when it fell, i had a reliable patch using liquid elextrical tape. tried reinforcing with med. tpe, that unbonded and got plain liquid tape to last for months
nice job!
Well, I feel like a real slacker, I'd of thrown some duct tape on it and called it a day 😂 Great content as always 👍
That's what I'm thinking. Something like a cool camouflage duct tape would make it look like it was just intended as an artistic touch hahaha 😜
Rubber cement made the best fauve boogers.
Does the shoe goo taste as good as elmers?
Better
Why did you replace the foam?
Because it was missing in the wedge crack. So I cut out a square shaped that's easier to fit then trying to mimic the original v wedge shape.
@@sixtyfiveford Ohhhhh, there was a gap in the crack. I like to fill the crack, very satisfying. ... Hehe 🤣
Well done, another gem repair. I'd just recover the whole seat myself, what I've done on a couple jetskis with torn seats.
I was expecting you to use superglue, I've glued some seams back together with superglue. It works, but doesn't last too long, putting in the backing material is the key to a long term fix.
I get a kick out of upholstery work personally would rather just sew a whole new seat.
Nice job. I'm from the duct tape school myself. LOL
I've done duct tape many times. The straw that broke the camel's back was a dirt bike seat that I did and during riding it ended up continually peeling off and sticking to the inside of my jeans. By the end of the day of riding I had ruined a pair of jeans with duct tape residue and a chafed my inner thighs horribly. I told myself never again but you never know.
Impressive!
Shoegoo works
Dish soap on your finger works at least as well as spit.
The only problem I can see is dish soap doesn't evaporate as cleanly as spit. So if you accidentally push dish soap in a spot that you later smear the glue onto it might not have good adhesion.
👍 nice job. Ginger in the comments...
Does anyone else have a loony owner like I do 😂
You can use an ice cube to smooth shoe goo. It works REALLY well.
Nice.
