@sawalhaadderleys My interpretation of the ending was that Jacob the husband was probably a willing participant in giving her what she liked, and that Kidman’s character was now able to climax, but fantasised about Samuel in order to do so. I thought that was quite a good ending. Such a brave role for her, and she and Dickinson were superb. A lot of the criticism has been unfair and missed point of the film.
I watched this film on my own yesterday. I got 'Unfaithful' vibes aswell as nods to '50 shades' it it was a lot more than i expected to see without actually seeing much at all. I felt the immense need to discuss it with several of my friends because I related to some things very much from experience. I enjoyed the film, the ending sucked imo as it was a cliché really. Thats my 2 pence lol. Great review guys.
I haven’t seen it but it sounds like this is about, what women want, is still just what men want or what we are told, that we want. This was such a good review. I might have to watch this on my own! :)
Great review. Just watched the film and then hopped straight here. I agree with all your points. I also saw it as an extreme of women having it all and doing it all and how in order to have/do it all we don't get to be in our feminine energy so much, that of receiving and letting go and trusting someone else to take control. Patriarchal capitalism pushes us all to overlook that feminine part of ourselves. Orgasm for a woman requires being able to let go of control and feeling safe enough to do so. I saw her as wanting that extreme polarity of submission to counter the extreme polarity of her patriarchally programmed perfect and productivity focussed masculine lifestyle. It felt like a desperate cry to return to the feminine. Rather than a simple sub/dom dynamic. I saw the ending as hubby being willing to do what his wife needed now he knew her better.
You guys are so good at reviewing shows--especially with Nicole K involved lol. I wasn't going to watch yet another rich perfectionistic woman role having an affair with a young Buck narcissist/masochist trope, but now I want to know the underlying causes of her extreme ways of living.
You're right that it was attraction to the power dynamic that was attracting her/them, and that answers your own question at the beginning, of what attracted her to him? She has never had the opportunity to have that dynamic before, so when it was thrown at her it was powerful. He himself didn't matter as much, so it wasn't exactly a love story, although they had their good moments together eventually.
So my thoughts was on the ending ..nicole was thinking about him and dog to give her the orgasm so as you say faking everything again. I hated the ending 😫 Also if you haven't seen it and just read this comment honestly it does make sense 😂😂
Also... the cut to Samuel with the dog when she was doing the deed with her husband JARRED me anyone ekse feel uncomfortable with that lol. Loved the dance seen it was impeccable.
Great review. I saw it in the cinema and it was packed. It was great to see people coming to cinema again. I got to cinema regularly and alot of times the cinema is half empty so it was a pleasant change see a packed cinema. I felt Nicole Kidman played a women who felt needed everything to be in control and please everyone including her husband. She was wanted to be the perfect wife so the chance to risk everything was very attractive. Same reason why some powerful men visit female dominatrixes so they can be submissive for a change. Quite honest and raw portrayal of a powerful women in her prime.
This was an excellent review guys I feel a how to stay married on the back of this …it was just so good listening to the review I actually haven’t seen the movie but I would give this review 100 out of 100 so detailed and so interesting both your viewpoints excellent and yes I need to see this movie now🤩
I'm not a Nicole fan and the subject doesn't appeal. In saying that...I did really like her when she played Virginia Woolf and she had a fake nose. I forgot who she was and she was very good in it .
Love when you do reviews together! ❤
The end just looks sloppy and unfinished, that''s my take on it. They ran out of time to edit and just used some doggo footage with Harris Dickinson 😂
Entirely agree !(Mark)
I’ve struggled to watch Nicole Kidman in recent years. But from your analysis this film sounds emotionally complex which I’d enjoy xx
