James, the age profile of cars has increased along with the cost to purchase. An 8 to 10 year old car is expensive but unfortunately that's what it is a 10 year old car, it is going to give problems. The way things are with modern cars something 4 or 5 years old can put a serious hole in your pocket for maintenance. You're very decent you always try and he'll people out.
I owned 3 computer shops and closed them all last year. Trading from home and every item is £90 cheaper with no overheads. Warranty? Just bring it back and take another. Sales growth? No-one can compete.
Now i understand why Moors always had my car for days longer than quoted. Cos they keep squeezing you in at short notice! Stopped using them in the end as a result.
The Clio sounds like a driveway repair job - I don't know how far away it is but one where a tame mobile mechanic who could go and inspect/fix it on the spot would be good.
James,.the Kia Soul EV,. might be worth checking the 12v battery, that might be causing the airbag error. Its very common for 12v batteries to fail on EVs.

The cars they bring out today are far to complicated it takes away half the fun of owning a car as we can't maintain them ourselves 😞 remember when you could change the timing belt at the side of the road in a pinto in about 20 minutes. Today it takes about a day and even longer if it's one of these stupid wet belt ones . Complete madness!!

I could jack up the car, remove the starter with 3 or 4 Allen bolts if memory serves me right, then free-up the bit that was stuck and put it back on the car. It would take me 10 to 15 minutes and I wouldn’t even be late for work. I’ve had my current car, a C220, for about 10 years and I honestly don’t think I could even point out the location of the starter motor, yet alone get to it, remove it and refit it 😂
I can understand why a customer may not be able to get redress for things they broke, or after a long period of time, however besides a fault not being present at the time of sale wether the car passed an mot or not, if a problem (e.g. a known fault of kia / hyundai delaminated brake shoes) of parts expected not to be at end of it’s service life, appears after say 3 - 9 months of purchase (and mot) what are the customers rights under sale of goods act chapter on durability. And do goods not only have to be fit for purpose and durable unless of course it is a trade sale.
Your problem is you are putting this stuff on TH-cam so people are just taking the piss by making these claims knowing that you will have to give in or show yourself up on the channel.

my 1980 royal enfield designed in 1932 and is my daily driver last 2 years ,, I had one problem the points tip fell off new points 10 min works and on that subject, a FULL service: tyres, brake, shoes, points, plug, oil. tappets. air cleaner , carb clean 2 hours TOPS
Ive owned my 2015 Audi a3 2.0 TDI s line for 7 years and in that time I’ve not had one thing go on me, apart from basic service and me replacing cambelt nothing else has been done. This is why I’m so reluctant to sell as it’s been an absolute beaut

The Clio has it been parked up for a couple of weeks in rain? Ours stuck on chocked front wheels hand brake off jacked it up removed the rear wheel knocked the drum and it spun fine.
Are these warranties not through warranty wise? Or your “self insured” warranty you mentioned before? If there with warranty wise Customer should contact them directly not you. You’ve set them up a policy with a warranty provider. It’s up to that provider to decide what’s covered not you. If it’s your warranty different story
Start doing free AA membership bud, it'll cover things like flat batteries and brakes stuck on, if a batteries flat, just say not covered, if it's 2mths down the line, let them buy one off the AA or rac, it's coming up to the season for flat batteries, you'll be going out to people to jump start them.
Go out with a big hammer and bash the drum, might just be stuck, shoes rust to the drum if it's been stood, maybe just that. Best not to force it by driving as friction material can come off.
i had a kia picanto happened at 110k and rear wheel got stuck on turned out rear shoe pads had fell off in the drum had to use long bolt screws to force the drum off

Seeing the issues that many low mileage cars have ill stick with my 2016 2.0 180bhp mondeo. 180k miles and still doing 2.5-3k miles a month with reliability, ..i did have the clutch master cylinder snap at the clutch pedal at 126k tho, and a radiator and thermostat housing in july, but i dont think its unreasonable in four years of ownership

Had it on a new Peugeot 605, where the parking brake shoes were toast. Could only have been caused by driving with the handbrake applied so refused a warranty repair; owner had to pay.

this is where you use the 6 month consumer rights act law which the dealer will after sort it as they would lose in court so example with the clio drum stuck on dealer would be still liable because you need hard proof to show it wasn't there when selling the car but you wont be able to prove that as he wouldn't of took the drums off to check the condition they was in when sold
also it really annoys me why people don't buy breakdown cover when they driving a vehicle they would know about it if they brokedown on motorway you be charged £200 to get took off the motorway

I scanned a customers car (glow plug) he'd paid 9k for it from skoda main dealer, as I'd looked at it they just refused to do the job under warranty (!) on that ev you don't want them going to skoda, insist on any warranties coming back to you, if they go anywhere else they'll always make it a big job, might only be a voltage related code, you just clear it first. I think you go wrong a lot with being too eager to let other Garages get involved, get cars back in and you (or Pete) look yourselves, scan, insist the warranty is return to base, maybe an idea for you is a cheap truck,picking cars up, if it's a cheap one it'll not devalue and be so handy, bill the customer for pick ups, as it's not covered. Other day you had that clutch thing and now seized brakes, a truck would have helped a lot.

I actually went back to the garage for 2 headlight bulbs 1 failed on the mondeo the other failed on the Wednesday. The guy also did the clutch master cylinder as it leaked the fluid into the drivers footwell.
The consumer rights given in England on used vehicles is mind blowing. Here, a used vehicle is a used vehicle. Unless the dealership clearly mislead the customer, they’ve bought a used car and are responsible for repairs. As it should be.
I went out to a clio with a jammed drum, yes the shoes de laminate and jam the drum, I went out with a grinder and big hammer, cut and smashed the drum off, it'll be jammed on tight, 2nd hand drum and new shoes will sort it.
These customers are being pathetic (mostly). Maybe the dealers need to get together and put a line in at 7 years. Just do not sell cars older than that, or take them as part exchange. Maybe have a £10K minimum asking price to provide newer cars and avoid the sub prime crowd.

That's totally right, most likely just stuck on due to being parked up, I leave handbrakes off if a cars parked up for a while, use a chock, as you say not James problem, 2mins with a hammer, vs recovery, both sides brake shoes at a garage, 300 quid that James will stump up for.

I had a clio with exactly the same fault on my own car. It's fair wear and tear and wouldn't expect anything else.

You would just tell the Clio guy to call breakdown or sort it himself. Could have been sat with handbrake fully on for a month. Its his problem not yours.
That's totally right, most likely just stuck on due to being parked up, I leave handbrakes off if a cars parked up for a while, use a chock, as you say not James problem, 2mins with a hammer, vs recovery, both sides brake shoes at a garage, 300 quid that James will stump up for.
