Thanks a million or at least $500! After the "repair guy" was here and told us to go get a new printer I took ours apart and removed the balled up plastic transparency. Put it back together and now working. Super easy and no major tools needed.
I just want to say thank you so much for the video - we had a printer in our public IT room that kept getting jams that we couldn't fix and this gave me the confidence to take it apart and show it who's boss!
Very informative. Thank you so much. My issue was finding the release tabs. As anyone in this field knows, pressure and plastic molded 30 to 40 years ago don't make good bedfellows. In the but its if you could show where the release tabs are after you remove the parts in am sure it would help immensely. I was able to get a good idea from where your finders were. Thanks again!
Well the changing of the pick roller on tray 2 has jus kicked my ass for over an hour!! My top tip for this is dont change it whilst the printer is stacked on its left or right side, do it like so you are undoing the clips with an up/down then slide out left/right motion, ie, the printer is stacked on its back, like in the vid! And make sure to either hold the shaft or watch the little black spacer clip thing on the right just next to the right hand release clip.
I was not able to get it to seat properly, made loud grinding noise when I thought it was seated before. a retainer clip that holds the other end of that shaft has dislodged itself allowing the shaft to have horizontal movement. Unless I tear down the whole right side of the printer and get to those gears I cannot get it to line up again. I tried. This printer is getting sent out for service. probably will cost as much as an equal replacement. Wonderful.
This is prob too late, but just tackled the tray 2 pick roller myself, use some thin plyers and rag the shaft to the left so the bits fit nicley, it doesnt move much but is useful using the plyers to get things in place without putting the shaft out of alignment.
Thank you for this it's a great referecne, one question my 2420 is showing signs of ghosting about 75mm apart. it's not the toner I have changed it 4 times and still have a problem, I'm sure it's the fuser but I see fuser film sleeves also. Could I fix this with fuser film sleeves or would I need a entire fuser?
This is really helpful! Thank you! Now, to figure out which issue is my printer's! And, I will have to scroll trough your video to find correct repair "spot" in your awesome video - do you have them separated out?
I'm trying to replace the gears in the printer to fix a noise issue. I'm having a devil of a time getting the left-side panel off! Any suggestions? I've removed the screws and pushed in the tab as per the manual, but the panel won't slide forward.
I will use my needlenose pliers and move it into position, hopefully the other end of the shaft with the gears on it lines up properly, or I will have to take the right side panel off to line that up too.
I just did a roller in one of these printers today and have the same thing, got new roller in on Tray2 and the shaft is not coming over enough to get into the groove. It worked fine before I did this.... WTH !!!

I was able to breathe new life into my 2430tn and is printing like a boss again. Found it on the curb and is in remarkable shape.

Thank you, this was very helpful. Last time I did this, I basically took the entire printer apart and then struggled to put it back together.
Thnx! saved me a lot of time, money and frustration
Thanks for this post. It is very helpful.
Perfect step by step video. Thanks, I was stumped!

Thanks so much. A very helpful video I replace my tray 1 pick roller
This shaft will move and not allow the roller to properly seat. You need to hold the shaft and prevent it from moving.

Chella
thank you for this video, I too have the same problem as Soern0n. What is the plastic sensor and what is a network card, where are they located?
Thanks so much! Avoided me from having to buy 2 new printers!
What do I do if the drive shaft for the tray 2 roller doesn't come out enough to connect and operate the roller?
Check the plastic sensor flag to be sure it moves freely. It is likely stuck and giving a false paper out condition.

What are the indications that you need a new fuser?
Doing this tomorrow ...THANK YOU!!!!!

Helped out huge. Thanks
Hello. I changed everything. But now the printer says there would be no paper in tray 2...any suggestions?
When I put the new roller in tray 2, the shaft is now too short to stay seated in the roller. How do I fix this?
Excellent Video! Thanks for the help. :D
Thank you so much! I was able to figure out how to fix my boss's printer so he didn't have to buy a new one -

The first thing to try is changing the pick roller in tray 2.
