Another fantastic restoration. I was seriously skeptical to how you'd fix that one Batmans suit, it looked like a goner! But as usual, you exceed expectations and make it work!
Nice top to bottom restoration with a mix of solutions from just cleaning, to replacing parts, to repainting, to using reproductions, to complete new make-it-yourself items. "Super" job!
I love watching and listening your videos! You've got such a terrific way of describing things, and seeing the toys get a new lease on life is sheer delight!
Going through your older vids. I love the Mega restorations. I had the Batman, Spock and Captain Kirk ones as a kid. I remember the cape didn't match the head on the new one I played with, but I don't remember if it was darker or lighter (my memory, like Batman's head, is faded and sun-worn). Also, I can't remember the gloves at all. They must have been horrible and I took them off (and lost them) right away. Thanks again for bringing back memories. You've inspired me to start re-collecting the toys I had as a kid...got almost the whole set of Adventure People Safari and I've used your tips to clean and touch them up!
I think that if you swapped the capes between the two they might match the cowls better. I see someone below also mentioned this. Loved the video as usual. I'm always impressed with how they turn out compared to how they started. Makes me more willing to consider picking up some old MEGO Planet of the Apes figures that might need some love.
Yeah, melt some wounds into his body, where the rips in the outfit are located. Then add some blood in and around the wounds and rips. (And maybe a bit under the nose for good measure.)
Hey have you considered using an iron to make the fiddly folds for the hem on these items ? If you did it over an extremely thin drafting template straight edge you'd get a really crisp fold and it may make the sewing easier. Also, I know it doesn't match the original Mego Batman, but if you ever get another Batman sent your way, how'd a black fabric cape and black cowl repaint to match Batman's underwear sound ? It would have a hella-cool Frank Miller - Dark Knight look which would look amazingly cool in a Mego superhero display.
Stain remover for babies clothes will probably get those stains out. Resolve carpet cleaner also works but I prefer the baby stain remover because it's not as harsh.
Oh my how much was that UniFive GodPhoenix at 7 mins? Haveseen one for sale in years. Do you ever pick up Starblazers or Captain Harlock goodies? Hello
They look great Dave, shame about those awful gloves & i certainly agree about the stick on badge's, Should be either fabric or like those on the 12 inch figures! Ive got a Batman & Robin that need tidying up before they go on display so this will be a great vid for me to come back to for reference! ;)
Good vid dave. You could melt candle wax with some dye mixed in and then dip their hands in. Instant fitted gloves. If you dont like them just peel it back off. 😉
I just thought about it and I don't think I've seen a Mego around here in years, I honestly can't recall the last time I saw one. Have you ever done any custom Mego figure? I haven't caught up to all your videos so if you did I haven't seen it yet. Great video, as always great work 👍🏽✌🏽
I have to ask how is it that the black never ran from his shorts to the grey? As I washes once and it smeared all over the grey was gutted cos was bought mego Batman from antique shop for 60 quid in the 90s . So now am to scared to wash them, 🦇
@@toypolloi I know is strange, was surprised when watched you wash them and no run from shorts. My vintage Batmans mint so no need to wash with this one. Great video anyway
@@toypolloi I feel the same way about those “oven mitt” gloves. I restore the odd Mego figure as well as create my own custom Mego-like figures from time to time. Instead of using these sorts of gloves, I use different coloured hands depending on what colour the characters gloves are supposed to be combined with matching wrist guards I am able to purchase from Figures Toy Company. They may not be 100 per cent accurate to the original figures, but they look so much better.
Thanks so much for these videos. It's made me dig out my old mego figures from the loft. They're heavily played with and have broken legs. I'll be ordering parts from drmego - have you ever tried using parts from the bodies that they sell for $5? What's the postage like to the UK?
I've not used any of the repro bodies, as it's very easy to find broken vintage ones to use for parts. Postage to the UK is ok. Best to buy a lot to make it worthwhile. I have been stung with import duty from CTVT, and they are not a helpful bunch. So best go to Dr.Mego.
Toy Polloi Thanks for the info. I haven't found reasonably priced bits on eBay so far and haven't tried toy fairs yet for parts. I figure if I'm going to buy bits from drmego, I might as well order 2 bodies for the package and use the legs off them. Have you considered doing a superman build from the body and head you were sent - maybe try using a suit and trunks from drmego for the outfit and see how well it comes out? Just an idea :)
Foreceps please nurse... yes Dr Toypoli "We can rebuild him. We have the technology. We can make him better than he was. Better...stronger...faster." Oh wait, wrong franchise
Darn you! I had the same thought 6 months later! Isn't it amazing how all the cheezy TV shows and vintage toys came from the 1970s? At times, I have Monty Python thoughts when watching these videos but today it was Six Million Dollar Man or is that The Fall Guy? Bruce Wayne or Steve Austin? Hmmm...
Have you thought about using 'Vanish' on really badly soiled figure clothing? You could soak the items in it prior to washing them. If it will remove oil and blood from denim, it can remove anything, as far as I'm concerned.
"Body rough around the edges --" See what you look like in 20 years after battling super-villains like the Sadistic Toy Crusher and The Bratty Kid Sister -- er, The Joker and The Riddler! Action toy Batman actually got off light compared to his comic book counterpart... At least Bat-Toy's limbs are replaceable!
You go fast during the part that would be useful to learn how to do this. Maybe it’s you being British but I like and hate your videos at the same time.
This restoration never gets old. I have watched it so many times and still come back to it.
Wow, thanks 👍
Toy Polloi you make a fine Alfred.
This is one of my first action figures
Another fantastic restoration. I was seriously skeptical to how you'd fix that one Batmans suit, it looked like a goner! But as usual, you exceed expectations and make it work!
It will never be perfect. But you can still make even the scruffiest outfit look half decent with a little bit of work.
Nice top to bottom restoration with a mix of solutions from just cleaning, to replacing parts, to repainting, to using reproductions, to complete new make-it-yourself items. "Super" job!
Still have a 70’s Sink. Awesome
I love watching and listening your videos! You've got such a terrific way of describing things, and seeing the toys get a new lease on life is sheer delight!
Thanks! Glad you enjoy them.
This is awesome, Dave! You are a genius when it comes to toy restorations.
For the Batman costume you could look at the heat press options for the crest.
I think, switching the capes and boots again, the colors would match more closely! Great job 😎👍
Fantastic cape work
That was fun to watch. Good job!!
Your videos are excellent!!! Well done!

You make it look easy, BRAVO

I'm always impressed with how they turn out compared to how they started. Makes me more willing to consider picking up some old MEGO Planet of the Apes figures that might need some love.
You could make one pristine one, and one 'battle damaged' one, with the torn costume.
Yeah, melt some wounds into his body, where the rips in the outfit are located. Then add some blood in and around the wounds and rips. (And maybe a bit under the nose for good measure.)
Yay!!!!! The mego toy company is coming back you can find them at Target stores.....✌👽
They look Fantastic!! Great work!
Nice work!
Thanks!
this was a great watch,i agree about the cape. i think the lighter blue is a better match.
Very well done, I used your tutorials to restore my Batman and robin mego figures, thank you
Awesome! I have them both and a few others in decent shape... Very informative and helpful... Thanks as always...
very nice, will look great on display
That was such a great video, was like watching Tony Heart work his magic,
👍
excellent, it's a pleasure to watch your videos. Thank you
Outstanding job, that was a fun project to follow along, nice job!!

You fix stuff so good what tools you used
GREAT! JOB
Looks great mate!!!!
beautiful work sir i respect and love what you do pls do more #TOYPOLLOI your restorations are very helpful
great job, great video, thanks
NIce to see you and the Doc do a little teaming up! Great video again.
This was fantastic. Could you do a video on making a jumpsuit from one of the patterns?
Believe it or not, I used the fabric portion of a $5 umbrella for the cape. The color was perfect.
If the gloves were made of the same lighter blue cape material would’ve looked good

great scotts ! again i really enjoy your videos. brian dozier
Thanks!
BaremetalHW sent me here. Hello Mr. Toy-Polloi from Plow Bender Studios!
Hey Dave can you please do a video on how to make a repro yoda cloak?
Do you know Wes McCue? He makes rubber gloves for action figures. He's on American eBay.
nice, hey could u make a replacement belt and boots? would like to c u do those
Good vid dave. You could melt candle wax with some dye mixed in and then dip their hands in. Instant fitted gloves. If you dont like them just peel it back off. 😉

I've not done any custom mego videos yet. But may do :)
The Hot Soapy Water Toy Channel 👍👍👍
Have you done a video on Captain action
Had a question I have a heat transfer on my mego figures shirt how do I get it off if possible?. Thanks for the help
DM me via any of my socials as a photo may help me understand the issue. Cheers
such great work, but Batman's original cape was dark, navy blue....
I have to ask how is it that the black never ran from his shorts to the grey?
As I washes once and it smeared all over the grey was gutted cos was bought mego Batman from antique shop for 60 quid in the 90s .
So now am to scared to wash them, 🦇
Not sure on that. I have washed three of these outfits recently, and they have all been fine.
@@toypolloi I know is strange, was surprised when watched you wash them and no run from shorts.
My vintage Batmans mint so no need to wash with this one.
Great video anyway
Hey, great video Dave but no Mrs Toy Polloi sewing assistance required!?. Only joking. I think you've done an amazing job.
It's from Walmart
Dave, did you ever get replacement gloves for these figures? That blue is just way too light.
No, they just sit in his belt. I never liked that type of glove so just left them as they are.
@@toypolloi I feel the same way about those “oven mitt” gloves. I restore the odd Mego figure as well as create my own custom Mego-like figures from time to time. Can you do more mego superhero vids
Hopefully in the future. I am building up a stock of parts and projects for MEGO dolls. But I don't come across them that often.
Thanks so much for these videos. It's made me dig out my old mego figures from the loft. They're heavily played with and have broken legs. I'll be ordering parts from drmego - have you ever tried using parts from the bodies that they sell for $5? What's the postage like to the UK?

Did they make a Batman where the cowl came off the head?
geo 1 yes and also robin
Locking surgical scissors? Brilliant. (*looks on ebay*)
what brand of paint?
Make the gloves with the lighter blue fabric
In my school there was classes that they showed you how to showing and there was computer classes that they show you how to fix computers
What type of paint did you use?
Acrylics as shown in the video. Cheers
Foreceps please nurse...

Is there a superman decal available.
Not yet. I ma still searching for parts so I can restore my Superman. Cheers
ok thanks
They sold out in Amazon but in Walmart no
😎
The tabs at the top should be sewn to the inside of the outfits neck and not together.

brianartillery I never thought of that
You should be the dr mego toy polli
You can buy rubber gloves that fit better.

Bullets???? On BATMANs BELT!?!?!
Contact Wes McCue on facebook for some great gloves and parts.
I'd leave the gloves off, honestly.
I have. They look rubbish.
You go fast during the part that would be useful to learn how to do this. Maybe it’s you being British but I like and hate your videos at the same time.
If I skip past bits it's because I have covered it multiple times in other videos. So check those out for more details.
