I myself(a retired P.E.teacher) a great fan of Pancham Da having so many cassettes of all the great musicians of yesteryears. Like you've mentioned during your shows in Pune even I agree with you about the music of today. Well I'm a great fan of western country music which has some meaning & msg too. RD Burman was an institution himself. The era in which he worked did not have the mind or knowledge to understand his innovations and craftsmanship. Thanks to today's musician with knowledge of technology and sound who are rediscovering his creations.
I wld like congratulate ashwin n his team for the fabulous xray of RDB music.....but very closely following Boss composition for last 40 yrs I think boss created classics by just creating music which sounded good to him n his team....he never planned a song to create a classic.....geniuses never plan n do.....n boss was a above genius.....gods own child.....
Wah! Thoroughly enjoyed Sri.Anupam ghatak's rhythm grow and musicians complimented it so beautifully! Lovely program indeed! Ashwin Srinivasan's words , narration and mesmerising flute enhanced our understanding of music and of course RD burman! Ashwin is superb in all roles, as a musician and as a man who is in complete control. Has vast knowledge, excellent orator and super smart. When I just imagine Pancham Da composing these brilliant individual pieces and roping them all together to create exhilarating, divine music, it really brings tears to my eyes.....what a genius.....what a magician!
I yearn to listen more and more about pancham. Ashwin and team - thank you for bringing up certain nuances and the logic behind why they sounded so good and attractive to an untrained ear. One aspect that I believe is so under promoted and valued is RDs use of base guitar. I mean that has been the backbone of RDs songs. Tu tu hai wohi, dhadkan pal pal, pyar mein dil pe maar de, jeevan ke har mod pe are just a few that come to my mind right now. The list is endless. And for the record - I am probably the luckiest person who has heard Kuch Na Kaho in Kishore da’s voice. I distinctly remember that the moment I first heard the song I said this has to be a song made for Kishoreda. And the same night I heard the song in Kishore da’s voice in my dream. perhaps the only dream I have remembered in my life as I have thought about it again and again and again. Panchamda we miss you - is an understatement!

Ashwin you and your fellow musicians explained so beautifully about each composition, as you said even people with no classical music knowledge enjoys RDs compositions since these touches the heart and soul. The trumpet part in "Aaneywala Pal" always mesmerises me and you spoke about it...The Reverse Snare you spoke about was in song "He Baba He Baba Miltey hain ikdin Re Baba" from Manzil Manzil. what u r talking Ashwin is very true and it was happened in that way only!! The musicians were really given freedom to play . This was the character he had imbibed from Dada Burman .They usually tell the situation/scene to the musician and then asked to play as per musician's visualizations and then it was fine tuned. This is reason why everybody could enjoy even today You all are fabulous musicians .God bless you!!
THAT WAS AWESOME!! Ashwin, Anupam and Santosh, y'all have such a gift, such silken touch. I was completely blown away. 'Main shayar', 'Aane wala pal' and ' jahan pe savera' were criminally great performances !! Loved the way you hold back your notes with your shoulder Ashwin. The signature 'Maadal'....the nuances of ' tere liye palkon ki jhaalar bunooo' ....uff !! Had such a blast watching and listening to y'all at 2 in the morning.
