Yakov Basner was born in Riga, Latvia where he was very active in the Yiddish cultural life. After the War, Yakov was married and raised a family for 10 years until he received permission to emigrate. While in America, Yakov became active again in the Yiddish culture in Long Beach, where he taught Yiddish for over 20 years.
