@pberglin Well, in my opinion, I would have to say yes. You can get a stronger weld than the metal itself. This would show itself by the weld ripping out of the metal. Great question, thanks for posting.
@6013welder. You should! Good metal prep is important for all kinds of welding. Welding dirty metal is like closing a zipper with your shirt tail caught in it. It will work but not as well as it should. Thanks for posting.
Grinding also removes oil from the mill finish metal surface. My preference is to bead blast first, inspect for rolling stress lines/striations in the surface, if I see those, then grind. I also wipe the surfaces with isopropyl alcohol, and wipe down the filler rod, too. I tried acetone, but it leaves an oily residue.
Sorry, I am not a certified welder and I don't weld pipe. But if it was in front of me I would bevel the edge back about 10 mm and in about the same. Leave a gap of maybe 5 mm but this is all a guess on my part.
I would like to purchase a mig welder, do you have any recommendations? I would like to maybe try tig as well. Is there a welder that will do both? I will be doing light stainless steel most likely sheet stainless steel to make cabinets. I also plan on doing steel nothing too heavy probably 1/4" would be the thickest.
kevin, I have a 4 1/2" grinder. What kind of wheel should I use to clean metal before welding and what kind of wheel should I use for cleaning up welds after welding? thank you
dear sir I'm new to welding I'm having problems with e6010 rods constantly sticking do you have any advise ps ive cleaned the metal before starting to weld

@strube1369 Trying to get her in front of the camera is worth a video of its own.
Thanks for posting.
Always have to keep in mind that welding is an electrical connection. The cleaner the better! Good video! Thanks!

Hi Kevin, what kind of wheel do you have on the grinder? Thanks
dear sir can you tell about 20 mm plate pipe how much gap and angle of bevel suitable for weld.
Sorry, I am not a certified welder and I don't weld pipe.

Kevin, did you take classes for welding or did you learn everything by yourself?
