This is why the Basenji has such a strong emotional attachment to its owners. He may be trained to be a hunter or a security dog, and he is one of the most charming friends at home. Appearance of the Basenji

The Basenji's Temperament
The Basenji is a curious, alert, affectionate dog. It enjoys playing and makes a nice pet if properly cared for from an early age. It is intelligent and eager to please, and it responds well to instruction. It can be reserved around strangers, so make an effort to socialize. Although the Basenji is reserved, it may build strong ties with people. Non-canine pets should not be trusted with it. It works well with children who know how to show leadership to the dog. Wet weather irritates the Basenji. It enjoys chewing, so providing it with a variety of toys is a smart idea. The breed enjoys climbing and can quickly scale chain-link fences. It is remarkable in that it does not bark and cleans itself like a cat. It can be regarded as a fast, lively, and never-ending game. The majority of Basenji issues stem from a mismatch between the owner and the pet. The owners misunderstand "quiet" to mean "inactive" rather than "noiseless," and are consequently tormented by an active, yet relatively quiet, canine. Basenjis require daily exercise to keep their mental and physical energies in check. Basenjis are quite good at getting their own way; they achieve more via charm than obstinacy, therefore they require an owner who exudes natural authority. One who establishes and adheres to regulations. Calm, but resolute, assured, and consistent. Basenjis with meek or passive owners, or owners who don't follow the rules, will become obnoxious. When left alone, the dog will take the role of pack leader, resulting in behavior issues. Dogs make fantastic pets for owners who understand canine nature and treat them appropriately.
Basenji's Health Problems
Fanconi's syndrome (kidney difficulties) is common in this breed, and it must be treated as soon as symptoms appear. It's also prone to progressive retinal atrophy, as well as digestive and ocular issues.
Basenji's Ideal Living Environment
If the Basenji receives enough exercise, it will be OK in an apartment. Indoors, it's highly active, and a little yard will suffice. The Basenji is happiest when maintained in a group of two or three other Basenjis; they do not quarrel.
Basenji's Exercise
The Basenji requires regular rigorous activity. Unless the owner is consistent, they have a tendency to become overweight and lazy. This breed requires a daily stroll.
Origins of the Basenji
Five thousand years ago, the earliest signs of a dog comparable to the Basenji were discovered in Egyptian tombs and wall art. It was first imported to England in 1937 under the name Congo Dog. It was developed by English breeders and distributed all over the world. In Africa, the dog was utilized by the locals as a forest guide, to warn of dangerous creatures approaching, and to drive animals into nets. In 1941, the first litter of Basenji puppies was born and grown to maturity in the United States, and the breed was recognized by the American Kennel Club (AKC) in 1944.
