    It has a much cleaner, smooth taste then traditional moonshine made with corn.
    Get the same still we used in the video amzn.to/3l4MyKn
    Gonna need some yeast amzn.to/3kYoTvh
    Check your ABV with a hydrometer amzn.to/3rybCvC

    My great uncle use to place a piece of apple flavored jolly rancher candy inside of every jar before he stored the jars in his cellar. He said that the sugar in the candy did something or another causing it to taste ten times better. Apparently he was right because people would drive up from Atlanta and buy every jar he had.

    Great Video for a beginning hobby distiller!! I use a thumper and after fermenting the apples I add some into the thumper. I have the ability to by-pass the foreshots from the thumper and after the foreshots are removed I switch the thumper to direct the steam from the still through the apples in the thumper. I get a lot higher proof as well as more flavor from the apples.

    In your corn video you used the Britta to filter it cause of the corn, are you able to skip that step with apples or do you still recommend filtering it 3x? Sorry if this is a dumb question

    • @philbillymoonshine7356
      @philbillymoonshine7356  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      filtering it is optional but it comes out a lot cleaner smelling and tasting when you just use the apples, it even tastes better. People used corn because it was so cheap, and it kind of became a tradition for some families, but almost anything else is gonna taste and smell better then corn alcohol. To make a lot of whiskeys and bourbons they double distill, triple filter, and age it in charred oak barrels, this is not always necessary, everything is up to your taste buds, and what you personally like.

      Apples aren't really all that sweet. A gallon of pure apple juice only has a potential alcohol level of about 5-7%. Using strong distiller's yeast or champagne yeast on that will make it SUPER dry and like Phil said it can create some weird flavors.

      @philbillymoonshine7356  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Way back in the day they only used corn, now days we add sugar to help feed the yeast. But yes, pretty much corn is just a nostalgia thing, and a preference in taste. I know people that use potatoes, and some that use rice. Just about anything starchy has sugars in it, that yeast will eat. However Kentucky, and Tennessee have made it into an art, and you do not get much better then bourbon by using corn and wheat together, it is American greatness.

    • @dogslobbergardens6606
      @dogslobbergardens6606 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@brandoncortright2900 Corn and barley (or other grains) also provide sugars, just not as much sugar as fruit. Whiskey/whisky started in Ireland and Scotland, where they grew a lot of barley and rye, so that's what they used. When some of those folks came to Appalachia they realized it was easier to grow corn/maize and get a bigger yield from the same acreage, so screw it, they started making whiskey with corn. Even before that, hard apple cider and jacked cider were super popular in America simply because there was apple trees all over, and once an apple tree gets growing you don't have to do much with it every year, unlike re-plowing and replanting for grain crops.
      People all over the world basically take whatever the hell they've got handy and make booze out of it. ;)

      A couple of years ago I was watching a program on Food Network. They were visiting a shop that made "gourmet" popsicles. The owner was talking about their peach popsicles and how intense and "fresh" they tasted. He showed them his secret - he roasted the peaches in the oven before pureeing them. As he said, that makes all the difference in bringing out all the flavors.
      Also, I've done this peach infusion with bourbon - I'd much rather do this with a decent product that buy a bottle of Jack Daniels Apple or some other crap.

    Wild apples are free, the price of corn has gone up exponentially... We have these new Flex fuel vehicles why aren't we taking advantage of this ??? Why don't they buy wild apples @ recycle centers. I'll tell you why, it's because they have the money & they're in control. So that's why I'm calling out to local Breweries. Support our local need's, support our local business's.

    When you use a fruit it turns into wine distill the wine it's called brandy not moonshine.if you add some cornmeal it up the proof on the product.

    • @philbillymoonshine7356
      @philbillymoonshine7356  3 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      Yeah but pretty much any white liquor ran threw a still is moonshine to me, until you put it in a oak barrel, especially if the moon is shinning when you make it or drink it. Jack Daniels is just moonshine aged in oak barrels and in order to make brandy you gotta age it in wine barrels. Potato, tomato, i hope you liked my vid. If you put peaches in your thumper to flavor your shit does it make it brandy, or add a few to the mason jar for flavor. I got a mountain brandy video somewhere around, its all the same to me as long as i get drunk.

Believe me, I use plenty of fucking swear words, but my daughter will get on me if I don't keep it down. All I was doing was watching a cool video about how to make a good batch, and decided to give a little feedback. Somehow YT brings out the keyboard warriors.
      It's NOT illegal to make your own drinks here. Thought I'd learn a thing through a video. At this point, I about done giving feedback or writing any comments. Maybe I should just let YT and everyone on it go fuck themselves ???
      Odd story: One day I had my grandson in the shop. We wanted to know a little about painting my 1969 Mustang, so I entered "body paint"... about that time my daughter came out. This fucking YT was filling my screen with naked women being painted. My daughter yelled at ME.
