A song about the legendary Hank Williams Sr. who passed away at the young age of 29. He left a legacy of great music behind. Yet another great song about this man by Alan Jackson. I love how he incorporated the title of one of Hank William Sr.'s hit songs, "I'm so lonesome I could cry". Glad to hear this song again. 😊
@@PunkRockDiva1979 Shelton Williams better known as Hank III is a spitting image of his grandfather and sounds just like him when he does his grandfather's songs.

This is a tribute song to the legendary country singer Hank Williams Sr. Although he only recorded for six years, from 1947 until his untimely death in 1953, he's had one of the biggest impacts of any artist in country music. Unfortunately he was only 29 when he died in 1953. This song gives him the respect he deserves
"Where Were You When The World Stopped Turning" performed for the first time on a 2001 country music awards show not long after 9-11 (written by Alan). He has some beautiful songs and some that are really fun! Love him and his music. "Chattahoochee" is especially fun
In this song, Alan references Hank Williams Sr.'s song "I'm So Lonesome I Could Cry", not only by mentioning the title, but also by the lyrics, "Just hear that whippoorwill".
I have a love/hate with reaction videos. On another channel, they were reacting to Jr’s Whiskey Bent and had absolutely not reaction to the lines referring to Sr’s songs. Again, as written before. Since they don’t know the genre’s, why not learn the background of the songs? Perfect example. I’ve seen 2 different reactions to “The Smell”. One channel actually Wiki’s the sings before reacting. You ARE SO AWESOME!!! This is a song that pays tribute, and yes, a haunting feel!! You rock!! My husband who has severe PTSD, is an Elvis freak, and I got him to watch your rreaction on "In The Ghetto!" He cried!! TY so much!!!!!
Carol Tillman I'm also an Elvis can. In the Ghetto is one of my absolute favorites. I'm not really a fan of most Gospel music, but when Elvis sings Gospel, I feel it to my bones. There's just something about his voice and the way he sings Gospel that touches me deep inside my heart. Please tell your husband I say "Thank you SOOOOOOO very much for your service to our country. It's because of you that we still have our freedom today and can rest easy knowing we are being protected by Very Special Warriors fighting for us."
See... this is country. Not that manufactured pop country crap... for real country with real emotion. A song that always gives me chills. Another great one is The Ride by David Allan Coe.
I like this song, probably one of my favorites. I like most all songs about Hank Williams. A little historical note you may or may not be interested in. Hank Williams was taught how to play, by a black man, an old blues player they called T Tot. Short for Tea totaler. There is a song on TH-cam by Hank Williams Jr. that tells a little about it.
We went to Montgomery to see Hanks grave because of this song and video....Alan's voice is so very country and his writing is like no other..he even wrote a song for Randy Travis that was a hit
N Hammock-I agree. That song sums up how so many of us felt, and where we were at on that horrific day. A heart breaking, yet so poignantly written, and sung by Alan Jackson.
I saw a comment requesting this song a while back. I knew it wasn't a good suggestion because he likely didn't know who Hank Sr. was. So many great Alan Jackson songs, and the person chose this one?? 🙄
The song is about Hank Sr, the name of the song is about the Bar called Midnight in Montgomery,Al where Hank Sr used to perform. And to most real country fans, this is one of Jackson's finest moments, sure he has a slough of good songs, but this is at the top!
You first got my attention with Elvis and Beatle reactions...but wow Alan Jackson he is my favorite country artist....I've seen him Feb 2001 at Westbury Music Fair Long Island
Amazing.. you mentioned 2 or 3 am.. Prior to hearing the end, with your comments, I was heading to the remarks, with my comment already planned: "I'm cruising down a lonely Interstate, between 2 and 3 in the morning, and when the song is over, I've driven another 5 miles, and don't remember it.."
MRM, I LOVE to watch your reaction videos. Your perpective on what you've listened too is very intuitive, refreshing and it shows us what a wonderful man you are and what a beautiful soul you have. My best to you and your family. Stay safe during this virus crisis. 👍🙋💖✌
Ty, There are numerous lines in this song that reference names of, or lines from Hank Williams, Sr songs. "see the stars light up a purple sky" and several others.
Sooooo eerily beautiful.....and no doubt Hank Sr legacy is untouchable....but I disagree one must know him to listen to Midnight in Montgomery. This song also speaks to the greatness of THIS song ..... MRM loved it apparently w/o knowledge of its deep and lengthy backstory.....as did when it was 1st released....it just draws you in and holds on! I did not kno Mr Hank Sr., George Jones, Conway Twitty, Tom T Hall or any of my daddy faves.... at that moment in life I was like no thank you. I like the fact that u actually listen to the song then give your opinion about it.. great channel and great song.. there is a song called Knoxville girl by the luvin brothers and no one has done a reaction for this song and it's one of the classic
I lived in Montgomery for awhile in my younger years and went to that cemetary. At that time, there was a big guitar shaped tombstone. I found out a couple of years back they had changed it to what it is in this video.
I LOVE Hank, Sr and Hank, Jr. My wife and I went on a little weekend getaway last year and spent the weekend over in Montgomery. I’ve visited Hank and Audrey’s graves many times. But I’d never gone at night. So about 11:30, I told my wife I was heading out to Oakwood Cemetery and asked if she wanted to go with me. She was like, “No Way”! 😂. She told me I was crazy, but she knew I was serious. (Cemeteries don’t bother me. I’m a graduate of Mortuary College and after being an embalmer, cemeteries day or not aren’t ‘scary’. 😂). But I played this song all the way out there and I got some great pics with a full moon in the background. The sky was like a dark purple. It was amazing. I’ve got the pics on my FB page. She still don’t understand it.
Long time, no see, MRM. I have a playlist of highway/crusin' tunes. This has been on it for about 20 years or so. I don't cruise much anymore, gas costs too much to do that. But back in the 90's, you could get a gallon for around $0.75 and travel he backroads and relax. One stretch or road near my house, at the time (it's a housing development now), was a sod farm. During the summer, they would grow peppermint, and when the moon was full, and the mist covered the fields, I would have the windows down to inhale the thick scent of the peppermint and watch the moon reflecting off the mist. It gave that stretch of road an other-worldly vibe that was something else. Kinda reminds me of this song.
This song means so much to me...I'm from Montgomery but we moved when I was a baby, but my dad grew up only 2 blocks from Hank Williams house when he lived there and my Moma's grandmother is buried 3 gravesites from Hank Williams plot. I might not have lived there but all my extended family was in Montgomery and I spent nearly every summer with them...The one thing I don't like about this song (which I do love) is that the video was not made in Montgomery but in Nashville...it just takes some of the beauty of the song away for me...
Alan probably couldn't get permission to film in Montgomery. It's actually a pretty common reason for a thing not to be filmed in the city it mentions.

This about Hank Williams Sr. Kind of hard to understand unless you know Hank Sr. story. My dad loved Hank Sr, so I grew up hearing his songs. There is a movie about Hank Sr. that might be on you tube somewhere. His music was classic old style and original country. Not even close to the style, his son, Hank Jr, sings.
