- After seeing Sakurai's reference to the Culex battle with Sephiroth in Smash Ultimate, I thought I'd give SMRPG hacking a shot and add him as a boss, which took about a day to work on. Didn't know so much could be done with the game too so I might revisit it someday.
And poor Geno couldn't make it in as a fighter or deluxe Mii Costume...
Oh well.

Ironically thats the most threatening thing a boss can do, heal itself
As a boss, you know you’re fucked when the party takes almost the first two turns just buffing themselves
And gets a freebie on atk up
_Lazy shell_ on Geno just makes him impervious to all magic attacks... That's what I remember just to cheese the whole game.
You could say Lazy Shell makes the game feel a lot more... lazy. (⌐■_■)

I used Lazy Shell on Toadstool myself. Somehow immune to even Culex's magic

If Square Enix was cool, they’d include another secret boss in the remake. And realistically, c’mon, we all know they’d choose Sephiroth. That’d be the coolest. Wouldn’t hold my breath on it, though.

A lot has changed since then so it would make sense to upgrade the joke

Now this isn't something I was expecting, but it's a very pleasant surprise! Everything from the music, the sprite-work, custom text, even the stage being swapped to fit Sephiroth, all superb! And you did this all in a day, too??
Poor Bowser at the beginning of the fight but knowing that Sephiroth was picking on Geno, only for Geno to do the finishing blow is satisfying-can't help but feel bad for Sephiroth though, just wanting to be remembered. Overall, great job on this hack; I love the idea and you did awesome on it.

Super Mario RPG is and forever will be one-of-a-kind. It doesn't have a tonne of half-baked sequels like Final Fantasy does or a fanatic fanbase like Mother, and that I believe makes it all the more special.
The Mother fanbase is fanatic? Sure I find them Passionate but I don't get the fanatic part.
I do wish we could at least get one proper sequel in polished, stylized 3D with the main cast returning alongside 3-4 new faces.
And give me another Zelda made by Capcom while we're at it. ;)

I actually feel like there should be a series of Smash Bros. games, with each one featuring a different 3rd-party company. The Square Enix one in particular would have no excuse NOT to have Geno as a full-fledged playable fighter.
The fight is amazing , but what I liked the most is the remix of One winged angel

If SMRPG was made in 1997 after FF7 released, I wonder if Sephiroth would’ve been the secret boss instead of Culex.

People thought he would've been in the Switch version, but Japan just told us Culex is still there, I'm thankful he wasn't replaced, but still we could get something of FF in the remake
The Japanese website also hinted that we might get one more super special secret in the game… I really hope it’s a Sephiroth boss fight.

Imagine playing the remake....you get to Culix and you get his monologue....everything is just like the original game, and right before the battle starts you see and hear a swiping noise....Culix was just cut in half and you see a sworded figure stand behind it....cue the One Winged Angel theme.....

Nah, it's just this arrangement, there are other remixes on YT that sounds very energetic and powerful of One Winged Angel in the SNES Soundfount
There's a timed hit with Geno Boost and you can get Attack and Defense Boost.
Just the fact that this COULD now become a reality with the knowledge that the SMRPG Remake has a new secret boss along with Culex is amazing to think about.
Spoiler, this secret boss is actually 3d Culex... which im fine with

I think I encountered a boss that can regenerate health with healing moves before, but I don't remember what I faced, if I did face anything that healed itself
