As a Turkish person, I would like to thank everyone in the comments for the prayers sent. There is indeed chaos, the number of dead and wounded are constantly increasing. There are still people under the wreck who are in this cold. People have difficulties in communicating with each other, warming up, sheltering and feeding. Schools were closed in all provinces. This is being talked about in all Turkish news channels. We share our pain. Thanks again to all of you for your help and prayers. Sorry if my English is bad. 🙏

Absolutely frightening. I live in Florida and have to worry about hurricanes, but I couldn't even imagine how terrifying an earthquake this size could be. Nor do I want to know.
I like in Pennsylvania so I don’t have to worry about hurricanes or much else so I’ve never experienced an earthquake. If I did I’d be horrified. Even if it were small.
They say the magnitude of the earthquake was equal to 126 atomic bombs. Horrible.
It’s pretty bad but you have some worries like crime,drugs and violence that are excused. No one escapes everything in our modern world run by imperfect human governments that are corrupt.

I wonder why so many buildings fall down. Would this happen in Los Angeles aswell if a big one hits there? I know it was a strong earthquake but I thought buildings are built to withstand an earthquake. My prayers and condolences to the people in turkey 🙏

This is so heartbreaking. Praying for the people of Turkey and Syria and for their loved ones around the world.
I am from Turkiye (Turkey). This kind of devastation happens for 3 main reasons:
1) poorly constructed buildings-government did not check for them even though our scientists warn them for A LOT
2) 2 major earthquakes hits with 9 hours apart. 7.8 and 7.7 magnitudes and they are really close to the surface. I do not even mention the aftershocks which are more than 5.
3)poor communication after this type of disaster:poor management.

It reminds me the earthquake we had in 1985 in Mexico, the estimates eventually said between 10,000 -30,000 people died. I can feel for the people o Turkey, a strong earthquake leaves it's marks. Please demand from your governments to condemn old buildings and rebuild, that's what causes the most damage.

The thing that hurts me the most as a Syrian is that no aid squad was sent to my country, Syria, which led to the death of many people under the rubble, while in Turkey only, most countries flocked to send aid and rescue teams. Indeed, even in crises there is racism, perhaps Syrians are sentenced to death from all countries.
