- In Turkey there have been at least 12,391 deaths across 10 provinces and an additional 62,914 people were injured. At least 13.5 million people and 4 million buildings were affected.
Around 11,302 buildings collapsed in 10 provinces across Turkey. Many buildings were destroyed in Adıyaman and Diyarbakır,where a shopping mall collapsed. Diyarbakır Fortress, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, was also partly destroyed.
In Syria at least 3,508 people were killed and 3,749 were injured in Syria. The Syrian Ministry of Health recorded over 1,570 earthquake-related deaths and 1,449 injuries in the provinces of Aleppo, Idlib, Latakia, Hama and Tartus. Hundreds died in the cities of Aleppo, Hama and Latakia. In rebel-held areas, at least 1,910 people died, while 2,200 others were injured.
In the village of Atme, 11 people died and many residents were buried. In addition, civilians were stuck under the rubble for hours due to the lack of rescue teams in several villages such as Atarib, Besnia, Jindires, Maland, Salqin and Sarmada. In Latakia, at least 150 people died and 350 others were injured. In Hama, an eight-story building collapsed, trapping 125 people inside. At least 48 people were killed in Hama-43 bodies were removed from the collapsed building. An additional 75 people were injured.

In our school today we were praying for Turkish earthquake and some teenage kids started crying while we were praying. Also throughout the day our teacher was saying the he has experienced a 7 above quake in his life but for 17 seconds but Turkish quake was much longer than that. Love to Turkish from Pakistan 🇹🇷❤️🇵🇰

Bu depremde Antakya’da 4 canımı kaybettim (ablam, eniştem, yeğenim ve onun dünya tatlısı 5 yaşındaki kızı) 12 gün boyunca kıyameti yaşadım ve enkazdan çıkarılmalarını bekledim. Maalesef naaşlarına bile ulaşamadık. 50 yaşındayım ilk defa böyle tarifsiz bir acı yaşadım. Bir kez daha bu hayatın bomboş ve yalan olduğunu anlamış oldum.

Dünya boş dostum.ben hatayliyim deprem olduğu gece uyamamistim. Çünkü içimde kötü bir his şey olacak diye geçti. Arada 10 dakika geçmeden Bahçedeki köpek ulamaya başladı hemde öyle böyle değil. Çocukları uyandirmamla kalmaları bile 1 dakikayı buldu allaha şükür evde ufak tefek hasar dışında bişey olmadı ama Düşünsenize uykuda ölenler yada apartmanda oturanlar kaçmaya fırsat bulamadıkları. Malesef.😯😯😯😢

The earthquake occurred in my city. It doesn't look clear in the video, but I can tell you this. We saw that the ground was waving like the sea. The first earthquake lasted 100 seconds and was only 10 km below the ground, while the second earthquake lasted 50 seconds and was only 5 km below the ground. I'm going to show you this example to imagine. The earthquake that caused the tsunami in Japan was 90 km below the ground. The magnitude of the first earthquake in Turkey was 7.8 and the magnitude of the second earthquake was 7.6. My friend, believe me, it was a complete disaster... There were only 8 hours between the first earthquake and the second earthquake.

I live in New England, we had a 2.5 here a couple years back. I remember saying to myself "is there someone using a giant vibro hammer nearby" (as I work with a shoring company it felt very similar). My brother told me later that day he had been in CA during a 4.0 and that people that lived there barely reacted, while he was like "WTF is going on". The one thing I won't forget is he said you could see the ground oscillate like waves in the ocean. @ 1:20 above it looks just like that. Scary that this will just happen with pretty much no warning. Hope they can save as many as possible as I heard the death toll was in the 40,000 range as of the other day.
Dude we get 2.5s literally every hour everywhere within the country here in Turkey, I can't imagine living somewhere where that makes me surprised bc it doesn't happen there. Mind blowing to think some places get so little quakes or no at all.

Türküm ve o günü hatırlıyorum. 6 Şubat pazartesi günü okullar fırtına nedeniyle tatil edilmişti. Ben İstanbul'daydım. Sabah uyandığımda babam o gece Maraş'ta deprem olduğunu söylemişti. Ben de en fazla 5 büyüklüğünde olduğunu sanmıştım. Ardından haberleri açmıştık ve şok olmuştum. Çok fazla bina yıkılmış, göçük altındakiler öleyazmışlardı. Allah'a şükür orada bir akrabam veya tanıdığım yoktu fakat yakını ölenlere başsağlığı dilerim.

I remember all of the details... It was my first time to feeling an earthquake... There was strange voices in my room. My mom was shocked. She said it was so scary. And we were in Kayseri so we just feel it
And so many people are dead now. It feels like you deserve nothing.
We feel terrible, so many people are embraced for eating or being in their sweet home.

I saw such lights produced during the magnitude 7,4 earthquakes on March 4, 1977 and magnitude 7 in august 30, 1986 in Bucharest, Romania.
