The only people blaming you are the gross super fans who didn't take any of this show's life lessons to heart about how to treat others. You're fine man. They've seen every episode, and don't get that they have hindsight clouding their judgement. You're not seeing things any differently from a majority of first time viewers.

Also, the way Pearl's recording of Rose has no audio, so Pearl is reciting what Rose said exactly, still remembering every single word, from 5000 years ago- there's a lot to say about just that bit alone, like wow
I never caught the implication that she had been thinking of that moment so much she remembered it word for word. That's powerful.

Well I think Rose saw it as a more platonic relationship, Pearl may have been more into it. If Rose had seen it as something romantic, I highly doubt she would have “left” her for Greg.
I think Stevens reactions in these kinds of emotional episodes is underrated, he reacts exactly like how a child would, hes confused why pearl is even upset or why people around him are yelling and fighting but he wholeheartedly purely cares about all of them with that childlike innocence
like that ‘did I do something wrong?’ hits so hard
Btw Cardboard, thinking they were friend is a very fair assumption. Because they definitely were friends. Its just that we are only on season 1, and you've already seen how deep and complicated relationships are in this show

While I have a lot of issues with the series in final seasons, episodes like this made me remembered how good Steven Universe can be.

@@redacted-oo7ne It's not even the rushed nature that's the problem. No amount of time could make what they tried to do in the finale work.
I do think it's worth saying that a lot of reactors who have recently finished SU were pretty positive on the finale. There's nothing wrong with liking it. And on the flipside, people are also allowed to dislike it too.
Yeah... cant change my feelings over the bad ending...
But we can always go back to these episodes, and they still hold up well, these moments still hit, cyz the writting was top notch. Maaan if only they kept the quality till the end😭this would've been one of the best cartoons ever alongside avatar and adventure time.

4:10 she knew about it all. She was just shocked he knew about them.
This episode confirmed that there was a real rebellion, with deadly violence and the expectation of death for failure on the part of the Crystal Gem rebels.
No matter what, Steven will do his best to protect and support his family and friends. We saw that in The Trial when he chose the response that would help GAP rather than himself. When he managed to climb back up to the top of the floating rock, you could see that he was angry at Pearl, but he instantly became concerned and caring for her when he saw how upset she was. "Pearl, you have to tell me what's wrong"...I'm sure Rose Quartz had to ask this of Pearl many times.

Yeah, this is one of the best episodes of Season 1. I really like how the second half of the season starts to get deeper and more, idk, real? More human? I think it takes a lot of guts for any show to portray its main characters in such an unflattering light as we saw with Pearl here and with Amethyst in "Maximum Capacity". It's upsetting. But it's also almost comforting in a way to see the human condition reflected so honestly in these cartoon characters. It's an acknowledgement of the imperfections and issues every person has, even the "good guys". And it is an invitation to empathize with people who are struggling with those issues because we understand that good people can make mistakes too. SU really was radical in a lot of ways, including its viewpoint on imperfect people. But of course, if every pork chop were perfect, we wouldn't have hot dogs.
I liked how that last bit of the episode with Steven and Pearl riding on Lion has Pearl quickly glance down at Steven and then ahead again. It's a brief moment but it conveys so much. That's honestly one of SU's great strengths in general imo, that so much of what it says is never said out loud. The show manages to pack so much meaning into expressions and gestures. Like the face Pearl makes as Steven is jumping over to her platform. Or the faces Steven makes right before he hugs Pearl and says that he thinks she's great. There's just so much you can read into these moments and I like that we are meant to actually put some thought into what we're seeing and that everything isn't just spoon-fed to us. It really elevates the show into something artistic where we create our own meaning for what we're seeing.
As a fun sidenote, Rebecca Sugar would reveal years after this episode aired that the little speech we see Pearl give while holding the flag at the end of the episode has actual dialogue to it. She says, "...and out of nowhere, when it seemed impossible, Rose charged in with me by her side!" And of course the lipsyncing matches up perfectly. What a special show.

I like the pearl trauma dump, although it sucks to see so many reactors misjudge pearl cry for help, i think the reason why she accidentally shouted at Steven was because she felt gaslighted. That’s how someone would act if someone if someone tried to down play someone’s hurt. So yes it seems selfish but she has her reasons

I just wish people let you find out things on your own..this was the first episode where rose and pearls relationship was shown. People cant expect others to just get what type of relationship it is in the first scene!

One important detail is Pearl saying the war was over 5,000 years ago. She was by Rose's for thousands of years. Even though Rose has been gone for over a decade, for gems that have lived for thousands of years that probably feels like just a few weeks/months (if even that).

This was certainly a "Oh. OH! Oooooooh..." episode for me. I love the insight we're getting into the characters, this one and the Amethyst one. And obliquely into Rose's character. And as you pointed out in the Amethyst & Greg episode, Steven should NOT be put in this position. It's not healthy, especially for a growing kid. But he is, and he's killing it.
You'll see how much Pearl loves Rose Quartz
Man I wish the comments would've kept quiet about Pearl's relationship with Rose.I get it, we all love gay space rocks here, but I think its more valuable to let the reactor come to those conclusions themselves.

You got a few things wrong this episode:
- Pearl didn't have an ego check, she was just REALLY surprised steven knew abt the cave and the sword, she said she had rose's secrets and she didn't lie, she has reasons to act the way she does.
- Pearl understands humans as weak and she knows steven isn't just human, she saw that steven saved himself and knew he could climb up by himself(and he did), that's why she didn't help him.
- We saw the cave and the sword in the episode steven and connie wanted to go to the movies.

And this was the episode that made Pearl one of my least favorite Gems in the whole show which is apparently a hot take...there is an episode in season 3 that made me like her more but her saying that to Steven...yeah it kinda lost my respect towards her...
I hated Pearl in this the first time I saw this, but after watching the whole series, she's justified
