That bridge is the Verrazzano-Narrows Bridge. The weather is why you had it all to yourselves, when it's more temperate it's packed. NYC is not the place to be alone (unless its in dark alleys after midnight, then you are just bait). I have family in Staten Island, so I'm quite familiar with the places you hung out at. Great place to visit, but I couldnt live there. I saw Phantom at the Palazzo in Vegas.
I got to see Phantom of the Opera onstage here in Australia 2008 and it was AMAZING. Can empathise with the crying at beginning once organ starts :) I was fortunate to see an amazing performance by Anthony Warlow as The Phantom and I would love to one day see it on West End or Broadway ;)

I would have been crying. Phantom is the best Broadway show. We saw the traveling show when it came to Norfolk. Awesome, awesome!!!!!

Oh my God I saw Phantom there like 30 years ago 6th row center orchestra. Amazing!
I can’t believe I missed the Phantom and Broadway never saw it. I saw the show in Detroit on tour but never saw it on Broadway.
