  • How the wrists should move in the golf swing is one of the most asked questions I receive from viewers wanting to know "The Secret".
Truth is, the wrist motion in golf is a very complex subject and one that has many possible variations depending on a player's grip type and shot shape preference.
However, there is ONE HUGE MISTAKE that the vast majority of golfers are making when it comes to the wrists, wrist hinge, and creating LAG in the golf swing and this video will explain HOW you've been getting it wrong your entire golfing life!!!
This video addresses the main wrist motions in the swing and how they have been misrepresented and misunderstood by golfers for decades. This video will help you if you've suffered with SLICING the ball your entire life, but never understood WHY!
Any questions? Post them down below, and please consider "liking" and sharing this video if you found it helpful. Please subscribe to my channel and grow the community.

I agree, great video. I think my problem is feeling like my arms need to be straight at impact, timed with a snapping of the wrist.
I just can't seem to grasp the concept of maintaining a bent right arm and how much to be conscious of some release of the hands.
I used to be a bogey golfer but now I'm a complete mess on the verge of giving it up

This lead wrist flexion tutorial starting at about 12:00 in video is only thing I thought about in round today and my usual blocks and flippy hooks disappeared. My score was SIXTEEN strokes better than my last round! I’ve had traditional pros over 30 years never describe this issue and have been very frustrated about my driver control for 7+ years. Today I was very much in control off the tee. I’m not a teacher, but have to believe that having a student realize your concept and see improvement almost immediately must feel like a purely struck one iron. Thank you Pro!

"Wrist hinge" has been my one most productive swing thought for a few years, leading to straighter, longer and more consistent shots throughout my game. But I've always wondered about the degree of wrist extension/flexion at the top of the swing. You explain the dynamics of this perfectly here, showing that the wrists move in two distinct planes with innumerable variations that all affect the club face at impact. Following your coaching, the feeling I'm working on now is a "wrist hinge" with more lateral than vertical motion. Your drill that shows how to create this by holding the club in front of you, flexing the left wrist and bending the right one back beneath, then simply bending over to the ball is brilliant. Totally different way thinking about wrist action. Super helpful, thanks!

This is possibly one of the best explanations of what the wrists should do for an efficient golf swing I have ever heard. Out of the countless golf lessons I have had, many were either a waste of time and money or down right wrong. This guy has an analytical mind that knows how to explain and demonstrate a part of the swing that is critical to good ball striking. Many thanks, Rob

Hi Rob, thank you so much for this video. I'm nearly 60 and just returned to golf in the last few years after playing in my late teens and early 20s. Since starting again, I've struggled with inconsistent heel strikes and with early extension/flipping and realise from videos that I have a cup in my left wrist at the top and tend to be too steep on the downswing. Whilst my game has improved a lot in the past 9 months (I'm back down to 11 now), I still battle with these problems. This video however explained so much to me - I realise now that whilst I keep my left wrist flat for much of the backswing, it is the last bit of 'hinge' at the top that is creating the cupping. After watching your video and paying special attention not to allow that last bit of hinge, all of a sudden I had a sense of the club coming almost from behind me on the downswing and I was able to rotate in an unimpeded way through the ball. The change to impact was astounding. Thank you so much - why has nobody ever explained this before? I am an avid subscriber now.

This is literally one of the keys to golf. I remember the day that it dawned on me to cock the right wrist back, which also flattens the left wrist(or slightly bows it). I used to be just as you described…. I pictured cocking the wrists “up”. This did just like you said…. Shaft across the line at the top. Club face too open. Club shaft standing up(too steep) on the downswing. And, inconsistent strike. I managed to play 70’s golf, but with a high weak fade. Now…. I cock the right wrist BACK, and simply flatten the lead wrist. I do this early in my takeaway, and then don’t even think about my wrists anymore. I’ll then allow the forearms to naturally rotate, which lets the shaft follow its natural plane(glove logo up at about a 45* angle at the top). Then, just rotate through the ball, allowing the forearms to naturally rotate through impact, and square the face. I’m now a near scratch player, hit the ball further, and strike it much better, with that compression and hissing sound with my irons. My swing feels more free, and unrestricted than ever before. Listen to this man. He’s the best on TH-cam.

Hi Rob. I was a paid up member of the L to L for two full years. I’m a good golfer. Yet over the past three years I hooked everything. Searching, forever searching for the little draw, knowing all the while that with the little draw lurks the hook! I have now been with the S/T system for about 14 months. Yes the hook is gone, mostly slight pushes to the right of the target. The driver, for now a slight fade. This video on the movement of the wrists is absolutely the best instruction that I have ever listened to and watched. The detail is simple, easily understood, especially when you combine your backswing video instructions along with this video. I am one hundred percent into Stack and Tilt now. Twenty five years ago I tried the S/T although half heartedly and was told by the pro that I worked for that this would never work. Today, for me its given me a new start, I’m excited about my swing and can’t wait for the 2021 season to begin. I will continue to watch all of the S/T videos and pass them along to my inquisitive golfing buddies and playing partners. Now let’s talk a bit more about driving the flying wrist wedge through the ball. Thank you.

By adjusting the wrist movement on the upswing not only sets up the wrists on the downswing but also, for me, slows the backswing allowing for the proper sequence for the downswing. I've had this problem for probably 20 years. I was the stereotypical "more lag" golfer at HS age, and I'm sure I solidified this mistake to a near0permanent level. I never knew what I was actually doing, and after watching this it makes so much sense. Thank you so much!!

Thanks Rob! Although I try NOT to think about my wrists, I needed a good fundamental understanding of how they should be working. I did exactly the opposite - as you mentioned - with my wrists trying to create lag. I am now hitting much more solid shots with much less effort. Thank you!

Great video rob, I hit the ball really solid but it is good to know what’s wrong when I don’t. Thanks, I’m subscribed.

Just came across this video and it is EXCELLENT! I have been playing for 20 years, (46 years old now) and have managed to get ok (shooting in low 80's) I have plenty of club head speed but always lacked consistency. Well I have been hinging my wrists WRONG for the past 20 years! And I have thought about it in the past, thinking why would I open the club face just to hinge my wrists upward and then have to close the clubface during the downswing? Just seems like to many variables to control! But I kept doing it because I thought it was correct and instructor's said that is the way to do it. My misses are blocks to the right or severe hooks, which tells me my club path is ok (in to out) but based on where the clubface is at impact (square to path = block, or closed to path = hook) determined my shot, which was all based on timing and closing the clubface through impact. With this "new" wrist hinge method I don't have to think about opening and closing the clubface only bending the right hand back. Such a great Lesson!!!!
I have played hockey in the past, and when you take a slap shot this is how your wrists work! The blade of the stick remains square to your path, you would never see a hockey player open the blade during the backswing just to close the blade during the downswing. So I tried taking a slap shot with my golf club (not actually hit a ball). If you move your right hand down onto the shaft and take a "slap shot" the wrists will naturally work correctly. Now work your right hand slowly taking "slap shots" along the way until your right hand is next to your left on the grip (use10 finger grip) and take another slap shot keeping same wrist action, you will be amazed at how this feels and this is the CORRECT wrist movement!! What do you think Rob?

Rob, I can't believe how easy you made the explanation of our wrist. Now I understand completely what wrist hinge is, and how it works, how limited we are. But, more importantly, you've helped me to understand what problem the wrist "cup" creates. I hope this will help me be more accurate on my striking the ball. My only other problem is the loss of distance I now have. I will be 70 yrs. old next month, but my drives are, at maximum, only 200. My driver and 3-wood are almost exactly the same distance, so I use my 3-wood most often off the tee.
I agree with all your other viewers, and I have subscribed, and have rung the bell.
    Bless you, Rob!!!

Great explanation of some important variables that took me a long time to grasp via other instructors. Myself I depend on deep hands and a steep shaft going back, hence using some lead wrist extension, then in transition laying off the club introducing flexion, getting a more in to out path, opening up the body to the left to square up the clubface. Looking forward to see more of your videos. Thanks!

Wow wow wow. Most golf instructors teach flat lead wrist and bowed at impact. I hear it over and over again. Understating how and why is what I just learned from you, which other instructors have failed to teach to me. Your explanation was excellent and on my level. Thank you so much for this lesson. It’s a fundamental that is sorely lacking in all the golf instruction I have seen and read. You are awesome.

I went to the range and practiced based on your detailed breakdown of how the wrist works. For the first time ever, i've actually hit a draw (on purpose). i was able to alternate between draws and fades on shots. Thank you Sir!.

Thank you. Could never get the wrists bowed like Dustin Johnson til this explanation. Thought my wrists were not working right! Now I know. Will take some time but glad I took a chance on your YT channel. Excellent! Your presentation is very clear and thorough.
