You will love it!! I've been in dvc since 2002.. I have 335 point and not gonna lie kick my butt to this day we didn't buy more points back then. It was a quarter of the price now. You will have no problem getting into any resort. Set your annual dues up for monthly payments! So happy for you!!

Back in early April they had a huge discount on Riviera. It was $11 extra off a point plus an additional $10 off per point if you bought 200 points. I think $5 extra if you bought 150 points. So the best deal.

Congratulations on becoming a DVC member, we also purchased at the Riviera this past yr. have yet to stay there but we are so happy we finally got in. We have stayed in a 2 bedroom suite at AKL and the Treehouses at Saratoga Springs, so you definitely have plenty of options available.

My version of DVC is the Motel 6 behind Perkins on 192. We always say, “Welcome Home” when we open the door to the check in desk. It’s used to be about $25 a night. Not the lap of luxury but when you’re eating at Narcoossee's the world is pretty good and nobody knows the difference.
I stay at Avante. It's right down the road on I drive and I normally stay there for around $60 per night. I've stayed there 30 times over the last 2 years

I realize you've done considerable research, and appear happy with your decision. I'm concerned whether you have researched the resale and other restrictions at Riveria. Riveria is not equal in its contract terms as compared to other resorts. Some find this very concerning, limiting and affecting their "investment." You had mentioned DVC as an investment to protect against future costs, I hope you have calculated the increasing annual fees year over year,. Some calculations show that DVC is not a financial investment, in that it does not appreciate in value over time like other traditional investments, but it IS a lifestyle investment. I strongly encourage you to fully investigate the terms of the Riveria contract as compared to Boardwalk, for example. You have time to change your mind, since you just signed yesterday. Regardless, have a wonderful time wherever your home resort ends up. Congrats!
Good for you! We’ve been in it since 1999 and it has exceeded all our expectations. My big fears that DVC would be sold during an economic crisis, and the Disney approach to maintenance abandoned never happened. We took our kids to the Hilton Head resort every spring break for 15 years, it was fantastic. Now that we are retired and live about 2 hrs from Orlando, we stay mid week to stretch our points and avoid the holidays due to crowds. Hope you enjoy it as much as we do!

Welcome to the club! And welcome home! Very happy for you. I know you said you wouldn't be staying at Vero, but I highly recommend you do it at least once. Get an ocean view room in the Inn in the off season. It's quiet, the view is beautiful, and there are some good local restaurants in the area. And to all the nay-sayers in the comments: Adam has worked hard for many years to entertain us. The money he earns is his and he can spend it however he likes. He's a full grown, intelligent man, and I have every confidence he didn't go into this lightly. Also, Disney does a really good job of explaining exactly what you're getting when you buy into DVC and how much it will cost (not just the actual contract, but also the maintenance fees and how much they have a right to increase them each year). I know they asked us several times, during our sales pitch all the way through the signing of the final document, if we understood what they were telling us and if we were certain we wanted to sign.

My question, is the same of every “time share”, and that’s what about the “maintenance fees”??? The issue I have heard of is you agree to pay “X” and then they jack up your maintenance fees so you end up paying way more then you agree to...
@@nonya13 so maintince feels to stay at a deluxe reservations for 10 days or so ? Maintince fees are 6 to 8 hundred a yr sometimes. Them rooms you get with the vacation club are 5 to 10k a night . You need to look deep into it really your not staying at allstar resorts with dvc. The perks too if you look into it VIP parking , fireworks from bay lake towers if your a member
Congratulations! My parents bought into DVC back in 1992. Hopefully you'll live to 97 but just note that the DVC contract is a part of your estate and can be passed on. This is what happened to us. We never bought DVC but when my dad died in 2015 (mom in 2007) we inherited the points so we're good for Old Key West until 2042. Fun fact - back in 1992 when it was just getting started park admission was included for everyone staying at the DVC resort (not just the member) for the first five years of ownership. That was a sweet perk...

Resale restrictions of DVC contracts have lead to a considerable price difference from direct purchase. I have seen people buy up loaded contracts only to strip and resell the contract leaving purchaser with the dues. lots of horrible practices thanks to the devaluing of the purchase through resale restrictions. thanks Disney:) the price between resale and direct used to be very close
The biggest downside I've found is not having availability to book what you want. At 11 months out, I had to waitlist the first week in December at my home resort. I'm less than 8 months out and am still on the waitlist. Those low point seasons are great, but you often can't find availability during those times.
I wish we had bought DVC resale instead of directly through Disney. That blue membership card is not worth the several thousand more we paid to buy direct. I don't regret getting DVC, just wish I had bought resale.

Congrats. My parents became members 14 years ago when my tenure at Disney began. You can also use your DVC on the west coast as well. We got a theme park view at the Grand Californian once upon a time.
I actually believe that the riviera is one of the most beautiful resorts lately, worth the money. Hope you get to stay, where you want to stay at any given time. 😊
I just escaped my timeshare contract. Sold it back for 20% of what I paid, but the maintenance costs almost doubled in the 15 years that I owned it. Should be called owed it when bought it and owed it when keeping it. Adam doesn’t need it as a resident in Orlando. Hotel rooms are so cheap today. The pandemic and the cyclical economy has depressed daily rents. There’s no need for timeshares, but I’m sure Disney keeps getting more expensive. It’s an artificial captive economy. There’s no need to be a slave to Disney economics.

Unless your writing off the costs as a tax deductable expense, it doesn't make financial sense to invest in a GLORIFIED TIMESHARE. As a financial analyst, it's common knowledge that timeshares, including DVC, are money pits and an inneficient means to prepay a vacation.

But on busy park days, we enjoy resort hopping and just walking the grounds! Lots of nice perks to being members!!

DVC is a fine program for someone in Adam's situation. He lives nearby. He only plans to stay for a day or two at a time. He doesn't have children, so he doesn't have to worry about "peak" dates and availability that may conflict with their vacation time from school. This is can be a nice vacation option for a adults who are Disney fans.✌🏽
Absolutely LOVE DVC! So happy for you! Invested in DVC 14 years ago, and have NEVER regretted the decision, and to be honest, ended up purchasing additional points after the first ten years! Love, love, love DVC, and I’m sure you will too!
Interestingly, you can rent rooms booked by DVC members who find out they can't stay (dont have the time or booked wrong) by looking on Air BNB...you can usually get a good resort room for like half off or more.
Welcome Home, I am SO happy for you! You have come a long way. I went in for a DVC consultation once and they said “Do you make $$$ a year” and I was like “I wish!” and that was end of my meeting. I’m so proud of you!
Adam, not a hater here, but please have someone sit down and go through all the math with you. You will likely pay $200K over that 50 year period between the cost, interest and maintenance fees. You can rent a lot of Disney rooms for $200k and probably have more flexibility on your rooms. That lounge was pretty basic. A pack of Cheez-its and a Coke cost them under $0.30. Most contracts have a 3 day right of refusal.
Because Adam’s business is travel and adventure videos and this will allow him to do some new videos and open up a new vlogging area. Plus it can be counted as a business expense I’m sure. So it’s different from the rest of us buying a timeshare.

Yes but you also inadvertently pass down the required yearly dues to your offspring whether they want them or not

Resale restrictions of DVC contracts have lead to a considerable price difference from direct purchase. I have seen people buy up loaded contracts only to strip and resell the contract leaving purchaser with the dues. lots of horrible practices thanks to the devaluing of the purchase through resale restrictions. thanks Disney:)

The biggest downside I've found is not having availability to book what you want. At 11 months out, I had to waitlist the first week in December at my home resort. I'm less than 8 months out and am still on the waitlist. Those low point seasons are great, but you often can't find availability during those times.
DVC is a huge ripoff, adam would have been way better off buying points on the secondary market.
I wish we had bought DVC resale instead of directly through Disney. That blue membership card is not worth the several thousand more we paid to buy direct. I don't regret getting DVC, just wish I had bought resale.

Congrats. My parents became members 14 years ago when my tenure at Disney began. You can also use your DVC on the west coast as well. We got a theme park view at the Grand Californian once upon a time.

I just escaped my timeshare contract. Sold it back for 20% of what I paid, but the maintenance costs almost doubled in the 15 years that I owned it. Should be called owed it when bought it and owed it when keeping it. Adam doesn’t need it as a resident in Orlando. Hotel rooms are so cheap today. The pandemic and the cyclical economy has depressed daily rents. There’s no need for timeshares, but I’m sure Disney keeps getting more expensive. It’s an artificial captive economy. There’s no need to be a slave to Disney economics.
So true. People buy these on emotion, which is a mistake. It's not an investment, it's more like flushing your money down the toilet.
I feel like it’s a status thing for these Disney obsessed people. It really makes no sense when you live a few minutes from the resort

Unless your writing off the costs as a tax deductable expense, it doesn't make financial sense to invest in a GLORIFIED TIMESHARE. As a financial analyst, it's common knowledge that timeshares, including DVC, are money pits and an inneficient means to prepay a vacation.

Congratulations 🎉 Adam!! We are DVC Members - our home resort is Old Key West, which we love, but we enjoy trying to get into other resorts as well - one of our favorites is Wilderness Lodge! But on busy park days, we enjoy resort hopping and just walking the grounds! Lots of nice perks to being members!!
I'm not a DVC member but another perk you can enjoy is a DVC members only party at Hollywood studios

DVC is a fine program for someone in Adam's situation. He lives nearby. He only plans to stay for a day or two at a time. He doesn't have children, so he doesn't have to worry about "peak" dates and availability that may conflict with their vacation time from school.
This is can be a nice vacation option for a adults who are Disney fans.✌🏽

Absolutely LOVE DVC! So happy for you! Invested in DVC 14 years ago, and have NEVER regretted the decision, and to be honest, ended up purchasing additional points after the first ten years! Love, love, love DVC, and I’m sure you will too!

Interestingly, you can rent rooms booked by DVC members who find out they can't stay (dont have the time or booked wrong) by looking on Air BNB...you can usually get a good resort room for like half off or more.
Wait, people AirBNB Disney rooms? You serious?

Welcome Home, I am SO happy for you! You have come a long way. I went in for a DVC consultation once and they said “Do you make $$$ a year” and I was like “I wish!” and that was end of my meeting. I’m so proud of you!
Adam, not a hater here, but please have someone sit down and go through all the math with you. You will likely pay $200K over that 50 year period between the cost, interest and maintenance fees. You can rent a lot of Disney rooms for $200k and probably have more flexibility on your rooms. That lounge was pretty basic. A pack of Cheez-its and a Coke cost them under $0.30. Most contracts have a 3 day right of refusal.

Because Adam’s business is travel and adventure videos and this will allow him to do some new videos and open up a new vlogging area. Plus it can be counted as a business expense I’m sure. So it’s different from the rest of us buying a timeshare.
