    I like how the video on counterpoint has two parts.

      Hi Glenn! I am working on it this month! It should be out in the next few weeks. I'm actually going to have to buy a new camera. Thanks for watching the videos and for being a musician.

      Hey Ben. Thanks for the response... There's a lot of good info you share on your channel. Very cool of you! Not everyone can access the information you give, or afford to pay for lessons or tuition at college etc. I tell my students and guitar playing friends to check out your channel (along with a few other favorites). I've subscribed myself. Your series on Giant Steps gives a solid foundation for getting to know any tune. Especially for those without prior experience or well structured practice habits. Thanks again for all you share. Blessings! :0)

      Glenn Michael Thompson Wow, thank you! I really appreciate that. I feel like it's hard to make an informed decision about whether or not to invest in music school or lessons if you don't know a bit about what's out there. So I am very glad that you say these lessons are helping people without prior experience. I wish you many great jams and thank you so much!

    Great Lesson! Thanks so much for making these practical exercises to help break open this very opaque subject. I do have one question: Is there any particular advantage to the fingerings you've chosen? I find myself wanting to move some notes to the 2nd string instead of stretching. I was wondering if you think doing so would be cheating the sound or the techniques being developed in the exercise?
    Thanks again. I'm going to check out more from your channel! ((subscribing........... NOW!)

  • @TheArrangment
    @TheArrangment 10 ปีที่แล้ว

    The challenge is to fit together two melodic lines into a cohesive whole. Although trial and error sometimes
    works, you might prefer to try several more formalized approaches which involve counter subject, call and response, and variations. These are just to name a few.

    The big question about guitar improvisation is like, say Scotty beamed you down to a gig with the Hot Club de Paris, or Tony Williams lifetime or the Aristocrats and you didn't see the charts in advance, how would you improvise a solo by ear alone?

    • @Billyleenyan
      @Billyleenyan 8 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Personally, i would listen, then put my finger in a string, sliding to the note i want to hear, or going there directly if i know where it is. Now i know that perfect ear is probably just musical memory. I'm starting to think that almost anyone who actually loves to listen to music has an untrained relative ear, at least. If he remembers the song and can hit the exact fq it was, it's perfect ear (untrained). It's a big myth this talent stuff, we all could sing the A note that sounds when someone hang out the phone, without any need to hear it more. If you have developed your own creativity, then everything should flow in the right way. But hey, what i say is valid if you like the music you are improvising with. In sone contexts i just wouldn't want to, is a very personal thing to be espontaneous, it's absurd to fake it

    Good lesson but my God, clip those strings. When I see people with strings like that it makes me think they're not as smart as they think they are.
