An ex co-worker lived in this mansion for free with some room mates when he first moved to the area some years ago. I fixed the brakes on his truck in the chauffer's quarters garage/carriage house. They had a whole other section in that mansion for the maids and service people that worked and lived there. Place is huge.

Interesting because it does not give the impression of being really huge. I had friends who rented a room in one of those old mansions in that area. It's a beautiful area to just drive around to see the gorgeous homes.

The capital at the to of the column is not Corinthian, it is ionic. Doric is the very plain rounded style. Original silk wall covering is impressive! Wouldn't think it could last this long. Would love to see the other bedrooms.

Interesting about the air lock entryway. They didn't want the smelter air inside their home either!

    beautiful
the Spanish style house at 6th or 5th and g st, has the same total floor plan as the rust mansion at 10th and I, but, instead of 15000 sq ft is 7500 sq ft

Yes, WR had it built around 1912 (?); his wife wanted a smaller house than the one on I St.

The 2nd Rust Mansion “in Tacoma.” William Ross Rust owned the Tacoma Smelting and Refining Company, these two mansions in Tacoma, the Rust building at 950 Pacific Ave (12 Stories), and the town of Ruston was named after him.
The second mansion was actually built after the tragic loss of their son, they felt a negative energy in the house or something like that. I don’t think that branch of the family survived past that generation actually.
My branch of the family owns estates in Virginia and North Carolina, most notably the Rust Manor House in Leesburg, VA. Which shares a similar English Victorian style.

Supposedly his son committed suicide in the first one and his wife could not live there with that memory, so yes a second one was commissioned by himhim
