Forming her passions at a young age, Lizzie Esau was born in London but raised in Newcastle Upon Tyne, growing up in a creative atmosphere that encouraged her to follow her early ambitions. Having penned her thoughts to song for over a decade, her passion to express herself through music hasn’t faded since. Finding influence in Wolf Alice, Beabadoobee, and Radiohead, she’s keen to blow the lid off any one sonic box.
Now 22 years old, Esau has taken the industry by storm in 2022. Working with her live band - guitarist Shaun “Chippy” Chipp, bassist Joe Bennison, and drummer Alex Baker - the North East talent has had a busy live schedule over the last twelve months. Establishing her sound with support slots for Baby Queen, The Amazons and Upsahl - as well as performing at festivals including BBC Radio 1’s Big Weekend, 100above & more - Esau has cemented her name as one to keep an eye on.
Ramping up her songwriting prowess with jealousy-fuelled cut ‘Shade of Green’, indie showstopper ‘The Enemy’ and the pensive and alternative ‘Bleak Sublime’, Lizzie continues to thrive and surprise with a rapidly-expanding discography. New single ‘Stay on the Phone’ - due November 11th - is set to evolve her craft into more new territory, offering a politically-driven but personal message, the Catherine Marks (Foals, Wolf Alice, The Killers) -produced cut rounds off 2022 with a fitting ballad to fuel hope throughout the winter.
Heading towards the New Year, 2023 is set to level things up with a debut EP due early next spring. With early support coming from the likes of BBC Introducing, Notion, Clash, and Dork, Esau is all set for further success. “This feels more and more exciting every day,” she offers, “There’s no way we’re going to let the ball drop now.”
