    We trained this tonight, found it a bit complicated, but your explanation has really helped me see what I was doing wrong... was definitely falling on my back (as opposed to my side) thinking it was a throw over lol... my mate kept getting me in side control... And the leg under to get me to slide close up is really going to help!

    leg below = primary leg -> does 90% of the work ----- leg above = secondary leg -> does 10% of the work.... you sweep with the primary leg and use the secondary leg to fly him and pass to side control or stick into it and pass to the mount

    Chewie as always makes a great point when he says you do move from the side of your hip and not on your butt when you start. If you just sit on your butt you can easily be pushed over !!! On your side hip you are much stronger. Tiny details , I know

      A forward head posture (butt back) helps, also.

    Chewy, I keep getting caught with one leg in, one leg out on my back the guy is pressure passing me, what is the best way to get back to full guard or sweep from there.

      You mean how to get to butterfly guard from starting on the knees?

  • @danieldunn4769
    @danieldunn4769 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I've always seen people bridge with the foot that is not being used as a hook. Is there a reason/time when you will and wont do this or a reason why you personally do not?

    • @Chewjitsu
      @Chewjitsu  7 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      The way I show in the video is simply an option. There's definitely more than 1 way to execute the butterfly.

    Tried this last night and was able to get it a couple of times. Hardest part was when someone started to crush my legs to smash and pass. I was also having trouble getting the over under and forcing it with just a collar and sleeve. Failed to get the hands off the knees, too focused on making it work.

    • @Chewjitsu
      @Chewjitsu  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thats the start. :)

    I am a white belt ive been training since August but haven't been to my gym in one month for personal reasons and now Im worried to go back because I am worried my coach will no longer take me seriously what should I do?

    • @lolzaloud

      Dont worry about it, just go back in and train. Anybody that has issues with you being away for a month arent worth your time. Go back and enjoy BJJ!

    nice video chew!
    Any tips for beating a wrestler? Wrestling isn't popular in Ireland so I've never come across one before, but this guy just smashes me and controls me anytime we spar he never taps me out he just controls me to the point that i feel useless in my spar and can't do anything and it really sucks!

    • @Chewjitsu
      @Chewjitsu  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      You have to get under his hips. I'll try and do a video on it sometime soon. What position do you play from the bottom most? And what kind of body type do you have?

    • @myguy647
      @myguy647 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Chewjitsu I tend to play from the top because im pretty fast and have good cardio so i can keep up the pace but im comfortable on bottom and top, I'm 5'11 165 pounds I have low body fat and carry most of my muscle in my legs

  • @mark1983peace
    @mark1983peace 7 ปีที่แล้ว

    I came here to ask you something but then I realised everyone else is doing the same thing. I'll give it a go anyway. There's a guy at my class who is way bigger than me. So big in fact that I can't cross my ankles behind his back in guard and have to always play open guard. It's great practice, but I'd love to figure out a way to hold him off other than scooting and grip fighting, like a modified guard of some sort. Any ideas? Thanks buddy.

    • @Chewjitsu
      @Chewjitsu  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I almost always play a butterfly or half guard against big guys. It's the only thing I can get to work. No reason for me to even attempt guard.
      What body type do you have and what type of guard to you play against big dudes like that?

    • @mark1983peace
      @mark1983peace 7 ปีที่แล้ว

      I'm short, strong and quick so I usually try to pass early against the big guy before he can get a hold of me. I also tend to avoid bottom positions and love scrambles. I play butterfly guard when on bottom, but he kills a hook and passes to that side with a high success rate. I'd love to stop him from being able to squash that butterfly hook in the first place but every time the distance is closed he seems to figure it out and I have to bail or he tends to pass. Thanks again.
