My first jiu jitsu teacher was a blue belt at my uni who helped teach a small club with a few other people including me. He would hit me with this sweep endlessly and I remember him doing it slow as molasses just to demonstrate the importance of learning technique. Once you start hitting it successfully you feel like a ninja, man.

Please make a series of this, and do the main sweeps from different positions. I always forget the small things, these are gold! I can't wait to get back on the mat and my technique and skill development is going to sky rocket from videos like this!

This is absolutely perfect the only thing I would add is if they’re sitting back really well just break that posture so you can get your hand under their leg by just pulling your legs then put the arm under while you’re pulling them to you with your legs

Great video and details. I'm over 40 and a light weight blue belt and this is the first sweep I could hit regularly against higher level and bigger opponents. Cant wait to try these details.

Started doing this sweep today, I'm still figuring it out but it's been already working way better than any of the other sweeps i knew. This sweep works wonders when you have massive meat tubes for legs like me, the more heft in your legs the more momentum you can carry with that swing.

1st video I’ve watched for a long time, been grading and trying not to confuse my brain but I got my 3rd stripe on my white belt so I’m back for some more Chewy & Adam time! 😂 This fits in nicely with the sweeps I’ve learned (scissor sweep/hooking sweep/sitting up sweep) 👍 Thanks chaps 🤙

The off balancing and forcing the opponent to lift up or tricking him to/waiting for him to lift up from a strong base is crucial here otherwise he/she is going nowhere. On the point about competition prep, I think that for those starting out in competitions there needs to be more focus on takedowns and takedown recovery (sadly not taught alot in many clubs) and learning to avoid gassing out which happened to me in my competitions. This wasn't down to poor conditioning but nerves and adrenaline etc.

    Hey Chewy!
You seem really relaxed teaching and talking to the camera. Am I right, and if so: did this come naturally to you, or is it because you have done it for so many years?
If I look at myself, I feel really awkward talking to groups or especially camera's 😅😅

I like to overhook the posting arm for control , put my foot on his hip and sit back on my hip. At this point his arm isolated and hes has to drive into me, that is when I underhook the leg and start the sweep ,I feel like that is way easiest set up for smaller people to sweep much bigger opponents.
