I am glad you are talking about this with Steve Kaufman who is over 70! I am learning at least 6 languages and am 68. Dont let your older age slow you down. I started learning Russian when I was 36, and within 5 years I was fluent. The point is, I got there!

I agree with Steve's suggestion of recording the progression of your speaking over several sessions, it would make a more interesting/motivating video as well as making you look better like Steve pointed out.

I rather liked of that tip which Steve said, to get five videos around 2 or 3 minutes and merge to one video only so that we can evaluate or progress in the language when we are starting to speak. I will do this with my english, for sure.

I'm waiting for the American guy to start saying "one small step for man one giant step for mankind" because this is the same standard of audio that they had in the *early 60s* from people *standing on the moon* wtf

A good method I found for finding compelling material that is both in text and audio format is to use 'Youglish' (which isn't just for English, but, so far, has 16 other languages), and just search using key words I think of that will likely turn up something interesting. Obviously the more content in that language there is, the easier it is, and also it's true that this is unlikely to turn up things that are at a simple level, but I generally go with simply finding something interesting enough, and dense with ideas for you to get from it enough at least for you to enage with it for a while.

"When we speak is for communicate it's not to perform." I agreed 100% because it was so obvious. And then a fortnight ago I came accros an interview on youtube by DF Duo Flumina Ldt called : The silence Way Caleb Cattegno's Approach to Language Teachers, where somebody expresses the idea that in fact language isn't for communication but for expression. If you have time and are curious ( I'm pretty sure you are) I highly recommend you have a look at this interview.

Steve talks about "graded reading material" -- where does one find this for Italian? Many thanks!

I guess you start reading an Italian novel , with a dictionary next to you, and by the time you get to the end of the book, you will understand Italian.

Most italians do speak and understand English. I do not understand why learning Italian. Such an insignificant language, country, culture and people.
