    I've mentioned this before - I have a container pond on my balcony with a filter, aeration but no heating. The neocaridina are huge compared to my indoor heated tanks. They stay out all winter. It was just an experiment and I used it to put my cull shrimps in. Maybe the cold makes shrimps grow bigger so it would be interesting to hear if anyone else has had a similar experience. The temperature outdoors in the UK has been around
    -3° at night and the shrimp are all thriving and producing babies.

I have recently got started with shrimp and I find that it’s extremely hard to do water changes on the small tank without fear of sucking up little shrimp, baby guppies, etc. Thanks!

    Okay so from this I understand that keeping endler’s and neocaridina shrimps together in a tank does not mean the shrimplets will all be eaten eh?
    I’ve started up my first ever planted tank and currently have some blue neocaridina along with ramshorn snails. The tank cycled really well and after i added the shrimp they all seem really happy with loads of hidings spaces in my subwassertang, cholla woods and multiple stem plants. I’m planning to add about 5-6 chilli rasboras and 3 Endler’s (2 F 1 M ratio) in no hopes of breeding for a profit but just for my satisfaction to give it a try and see all of them be a peaceful community with healthy reproduction.

    • @MarksShrimpTanks

  • @Helveteshit
    @Helveteshit ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I reckon the colder temps might cause the shrimps metobolism to slow down, causing them to grow less fast, ensuring a better build genetically. Not to mention, size. Since like a tree, they might gather more energy for their moulting due gathering more energy before each moult.

    • @MarksShrimpTanks
      @MarksShrimpTanks  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      yes I actually think you are correct, you see it in the animal kingdom if the water is colder the animals do tend to live longer and grow bigger, saying that the temp is really just 1-2c colder at around 20c compared to my other tanks.

    • @lesenegalais
      @lesenegalais ปีที่แล้ว

      @@MarksShrimpTanks I'm not a biologist, but since the water is colder it is able to disolve more oxygen and the shrimps are better able to breath, hence growing larger in size. That's why ancients arthopods were much larger than would be currently possible, bevause the oxygen level was noticeably higher than what it is in modern times, and why people who live in mountains are usually shorter than people living by the sea.
