I learned cursive in the 70s with a Catholic school nun over my shoulder with a metal ruler. My handwriting is GORGEOUS and my 13 year old can't read it lol

I feel so so so old knowing that cursive is not taught in school anymore. I don't have kids so I didn't know and now I realized it is also not taught anymore in the usa but also in my homecountry which makes me feel really sad. I remember even learning the really old cursive from hundrets of years ago in my art class in elementary school. And I am not even that old, I am a millenial.

Both my college aged boys learned cursive in 5th grade because they had teachers that loved history and thought is was important to read original documents like the Constitution and such. Even though it wasn't in the curriculum, they had to write in cursive all year.

right? like, i can fall into the trap of wanting everything to be not only perfect, but AMAZING, and then suddenly I'm focusing on the doodles or whatever instead of the shit I'm actually supposed to, you know, be DOING. haha

Took me a month to finally start my journal due to anxiety that I didn’t have the “right” supplies and skills to maintain one. I try to remind myself that this is a functional journal to help me stay organized. As a mom of two kids under 5 (one with special needs), the simpler the lay out the better. No time to doodle and do fancy lettering. I’ll learn those if I ever have time.

Love this. I went back to pen-only when I started a new planner in August because last year I went WAY overboard with decorating (washi, stickers, stamps, scrapbooking, etc) to the point where I burned out by December, lol. Going back to basics--just pen, little pops of color with my mildliners, and a simple doodle here and there--has been huge for my brain. And I laughed out loud when you said "just write slower" as a tip for making your printing look better because you're SO right!! I find that when I write everything tentative in pencil, then trace over it more deliberately with a fine-liner and clean it up, it looks amazing and all I did was slow down. Sigh. Great video!

This!!! 🙌 I will keep using stickers though, too much of a fall person to not enjoy those stickers for as ever long I can. I might do this in November instead no embellishment November or something. Perhaps add in a bit of color because it makes me happy (and can be really super simple like this! This week I’ve just put little swatches of my Tombows underneath headlines and to highlight stuff. Makes all the difference)

  • @Rivercat0338

Before I got into stickers I was big on color-coding--using a different color pen for work, personal, mega-important, etc. I picked colors that made me happy that week or month.

I've learned so much from you, Cindy! I admire how laid back you are! Not to sound all gushy n sh*t, but I was inspired by how open and honest you are! Thats how I do my channel also. I just bought a new bullet journal at Michaels' yesterday and I'm telling myself, Back to Basics, Keep it Simple. And though, telling people that is one thing, most of us visual learners (and anxiety-ridden hoomans lol) need to SEE these super-simple examples. It helps things just click. Thank you for this! I just started using a bullet journal again and decided that I’m going to use different pens and a couple stencils plus a straight edge for the vast majority of it. I also have a crap ton of washi (don’t we all) so I’ll be incorporating it some too. (I also will be marking a little of the page with a designated roll for each month to help me reference it - September is a mustard polka dot) This is only my third week actually using the system, but I’m loving it so far. I’m trying really hard to shut down some of my perfectionism in favor of trying new things and getting creative. If that week doesn’t turn out like I hoped, oh well. Next week Is a new page.

Planners don’t seem to fit my needs. I use a simple graph composition notebook for my annual planner. Bullet journal style-ish. 🔲Title page, 🔲index, 🔲goal pages with action steps, 🔲some day/maybe page. 🔲Monthly 2 page spread. Calendar on one side and monthly tasks/projects on the right. I list my monthly tasks in categories inline with my goals. I like to draw a bingo card at the bottom and randomly place numbers corresponding to the tasks and color those in as I complete them. 🔲Weekly 2 page spread. Dailies on the left and weekly routines and to dos on the right, These are in boxes: Morning, Evening, Weekly, Menu, Zone tasks (ala FlyLady, Next Actions (toward monthly tasks), Waiting For and open space for notes. 🔲Collection pages are in the back of the notebook and are support pages for my annual goals. 🔲I use a Papermate Flair and colored hiliters. I use boxes, arrows, drop shadowing. I add images and words cut from junk mail or packaging. And, I’ll add printed photos/quotes with my HP sprocket printer usually to my monthly pages and some of my collection pages.

I have been slowly transitioning away from using stickers by using only what I have on hand and only buying monthly stickers. For my 2021 planner I'm going to pen only except for stamping weather and certain stickers from OMWL (because Munchkins). I'm hoping my inks for my dip pens won't bleed through because I really want to use them for next year.

  • @takerzmuse

Also, don't forget that pens don't have to be boring - I basically do pen only with only one handwriting style, but I use fancy fountain pen inks that shimmer or create darker and lighter areas depending on how fast my hand was moving at the time. Much more exciting than a plain black pen!

I think the book is pronounced (Nem-OH-sign), I enjoyed this video even though I don't "pretty plan" anyway. I use highlighters to separate my days as I basically do a week on 2 pages with black ink. I'm a fountain pen user so the nib size varies, but 85% of my notebook is filled with black ink. I think people can't imagine planning with just simple tools without the flourish because the planning community seems to be 95% pretty planning. Even "functional" planning videos is filled with hand lettering or "functional" stickers or elaborate spreads that I can only imagine takes several hours to create. I, however, cannot be bothered.

I get a little frustrated that a lot of the big brands dont offer graph/squared notebooks as an option. I highly prefer squared/graph to dotted i feel like it's easier to get consistent sized characters because I feel like there's too much vertical space in a dotted notebook row - graph tends to be smaller
