Thinking of adding one of these to my '20 Gladiator Rubicon. Seems that for the money, you get more hp and torque with the Magnuson than the centrifugal ones from Ripp or Procharger, and the Magnuson kit is cheaper (not counting labor to install). I'd get more use out of a supercharger than a lift / 37s / bumpers / winch / half doors / etc. I have read that the Magnuson tunes can be hit or miss, I'm hoping if I get one they'll have it sorted out. I get that they have to draw a fine line between maximizing performance without impacting engine durability, so they don't jeopardize their own drivetrain warranty. There's another company that sells the Magnuson kit with their own tune, but there's no 3/36 powertrain warranty because of it, just a 12-month warranty on the kit itself. Now that you've had it a while, any regrets? Thanks!
I would say go for it! As long as if you get the proper tune it should all be fine. I am getting a new water pump and tune installed the Saturday because my water pump went bad. After I get all that done I will post an update. I am really enjoying the extra power though.
Hey man, I read below two things you wrote, one you said the noise is because of a purge valve placement but then I read you got a different tune? I bought a 2019 with a Magnuson SC on it, and sure enough, have the same woodpecker noise. The sucky part is, the warrant on the Magnuson was not transferrable to me. Do you have a contact at Magnuson? I am wondering how much a tune and tuner will cost me to get rid of the pesky noise.
Hey Seth, I’m on the first and original magnuson tune as the other tunes they sent me were not to my liking. Yes the purge valve is against the firewall making it just run it up next to the ecm. Curious of what the 2019 ran you I’m going to list mine up for sale soon as I’m going to start another business and don’t need it.
@@dairyjeepin3545 I bought a 2019 JL with 7K miles on it and it has the Magnuson SC on it. I have owned many SC vehicles to include a TRX currently. I new as soon as I heard the knocking something was up, but it didnt affect the power and it didnt sound like a bearing. I also noticed, being its winter and in the teens out....the jeep takes awhile to warm up or the engine sputters when trying to apply power. (mine is a manual).
I am saving to do this to my gladiator, curious to see what happens with that knocking noise. Do you think it is coming from the supercharger or the motor? I'm subbing! Appreciate the gladiator content!
Sorry for the late reply. So according to magnuson The knocking noise is a normal characteristic of the motor that comes from the purge valve. But when you do not have a supercharger it is placed under some foam to dampen the noise. I ended up fixing then knocking noise by relocating the purge valve. Currently the gladiator is at the shop that’s why I have not made any videos. It is at the shop for non-supercharger issue. Electrical.
my 2020 Gladiator had 57,000 kms on it when I gave it back to the dealer. The whole canbus system failed rendering the vehicle undrivable and they have not been able to fix it. My local dealer treated me very well and I am now into a 2022 JL. Not as cool as my Gladiator but am very happy with this Jeep. Am going to do a supercharger for sure
I do not believe so I have the eight speed auto which they said it will be okay. The kit I bought from them they said it was for an auto but idk with the new tune it is working smooth.
@@dairyjeepin3545 so its exactly the same engine...but only difference is the intake im guessing. The only thing i was worried about was it blocking the oil filter....as mine looks like its straight up and down.
@@dairyjeepin3545 what does this warranty really mean? If you blow your motor within 3yr 36k miles does magnuson get you a new motor or do they fix it? Or is the warranty only on the SC? Also, your water pump went out - did Jeep fix that no issue under warranty or did they give you a hassle since you have a SC now? Finally what did the labor cost for the SC install?
Whoa… I have almost the same spec gladiator. 😎 By the way maybe there is something wrong with the engine tune… other reviewers had better luck with knock.

No worries, yes if I remember right it was like 330 to the wheels with my blower I just can’t remember. I posted the dyno sheet in one of these videos though. On my next Jeep I may possibly go with ripp. Still pleased with my magnuson at the moment.

Hows it dunninh now 3 years later?

Yes since it’s cold out mine does the same.
@@dairyjeepin3545 Did Magnuson give you instructions for moving the purge valve or did a mechanic simply move it to a new location?

I will do one soon! Also will do a comparison video between a stock jeep and supercharged. Same motor.
@@dairyjeepin3545 any update yet 🤞
Yes sir!
I’m also from Melbourne and very keen! We doing it?
Did you have to use different oil when you got an oil change? Did you had to run supreme gas? Or still unleaded?
Have to run a minimum of 91 octane. Same oil.

The 3.6 Pentastar ticks, that's normal.

@@dairyjeepin3545 not sure about which brand. I have been looking at the Edelbrock setup, comes with a tuner as well
I have the rubicon model, and will probably not go for the supercharger because 1. I cant afford it and 2. I dont want to have to use high octane gas.
Do you have e-torque on your Jeep? Magnuson said the kit only works on the manual transmission.

How’s it doing now? Did it blow up the motor?
It’s still running great currently at around 16k miles and that’s 14k being supercharged. I sold it to someone local to me.
Do you have an update on Hwy and City fuel mileage you are getting?
Since then I have lifted the jeep and added a little larger tire. My combined mpg is 15.8.

Mopar lift and rubicon take offs for now!

It was around 19mpg
