These French organists have always held fast to a tradition of hard work and a comprehensive course of study. It is for this reason that they are such successful musicians. This young man is a disciple of Cesar Franck, literally!

Thank you so much for this offering.

To say that Mr. Dubois knows this music completely and loves it, even more, is a great understatement. His artistry is a beautiful and humanly physical activity to behold. We who have access to this video see that it is Durufle's music, not his own prowess, that is first and foremost to him.

Thanks for your comments about Dubois's prodigious memory.
He plays everything from memory. Never uses music. He has a flawless ear in addition to his incredible organ technique. A true artist of the highest order. I think his playing has so much "poetry" to it.

    • @tmo26

Not only does he play from memory, but if you watch his face, you'll see that oftentimes he doesn't even watch the keyboard for extended (!) periods of time. It is as if he could play the whole piece blindfolded. Remarkable!

@@HiringAPtAdvocate A cipher that became a dead note... Interesting. The only way that could occur is by someone understanding that there was a problem and pulled the pipe that was ciphering. (Pitman chest) In a DE once it ciphers it won't stop - usually dirt or rust in the armature hinge. Tracker - tight tracker once opened won't seat OR dirt keeps the valve from properly seating. the cipher will continue. Likely that dead note happened by someone trying to come to the rescue and spoiled the effect.

Over the past twelve months I've listened with growing admiration to this performance. M. Dubois understands and fully appreciates the emotional "message" of the op. 5 Suite. From the opening measures, we know we are in good hands; we feel immediately the shape of the whole work. It's as good on the sixth hearing as on the first.

    • @milesedgeworth51
      @milesedgeworth51 7 ปีที่แล้ว +4

This is some of the most lyrically beautiful playing of these pieces I think you will ever hear. That requires absolute mastery and control of each of the thousands of notes in this very challenging set of works. Unless you have attempted to preform them, you have no concept of the fortitude required! Phenomenal!

Fabulous playing! I know why he wore the headphones - I played that organ about 6 years ago, and while seated at the console the sound from the organ is kept from you by that enormous positive division behind you and by an enormous pedal tower right over your head. The sound you do is from a relatively small number of pipes whose sound that does get through to you.

I am always touched by this somber prelude in particular. Durufle himself played it faster (listen on TH-cam) than Mr. Dubois, but I love this slower approach! It can't go slow enough with this prelude. This recording sounds great, the microphones are placed close near the pipes, I love that always. Fabulously played Mr. Dubois, thank you so much!

I first heard the Suite with Philippe Lefebvre playing the Prelude quite slowly, and I was spellbound. After that, almost everyone else sounded too fast, especially at the end of the Prelude. (He also played the Sicilienne a little faster and lighter than most people.) M. Dubois gives a satisfying performance.

What a powerful work and composer, Durufleé and organist Dubois, no doubt increased by the greater execution due to memorization. Incredible that the great master Duruflé was such a profound perfectionist that his opus numbers totaled only FOURTEEN but fourteen MARVELOUS works!!! If a work didn't meet with his incredibly high standards he destroyed it, so his dear wife Marie-Madeleine sometimes hid his works to save them.

You called Vincent's interpretation "brilliant and very beautiful." The problem is that what I know about Durufle could fill teaspoon. I love Vincent's playing too and have listened to just about everything that's been posted… a dozen times. My intuitions says he's already a Titian. I also know there can only be few individuals on this planet who can master a work like this. I suspect Vincent must have perfect pitch and probably a photographic memory as well. What do you think?

I wonder why he doesn't use the top B at the end. It is a 61 note keyboard.

Indeed, that's a pitty to listen to a so beautiful interpretation, and the organ is out of tune... We need american donations to maintain those instruments !!!

@@raphaelmeyer9940 The churches and the organ therein belong to the nation of France. It is France that decides what and when the organs will be maintained. A pity since many of the finest organs are sorely neglected.
