The most impressive thing I in this vlog is popping to the library to do a bit of work when you have a train to catch in about an hour, I’d sit around and stress about getting to the station on time.
Hi Ruby! Barista here - when you’re making your coffee, that metal thing you use to press the coffee grounds into the portafilter (the handled thing that holds the grounds) is called a tamper and you’re actually supposed to press it into the coffee grounds to compress them. I noticed that your espresso shot was pulling pretty watery and quite quickly, and it’s actually supposed to be slower and appear “thicker” in consistency. The shot should pour for around 20-30 seconds! Anyway, if you can find a surface to sort of balance your portafilter so you can really tamp the grounds (quite hard, give it a good oomph when you press it), your espresso shot will pull slower and will taste a lot better!!! Just wanted to give a tip in case you wanted it. If I didn’t make any sense but you’re still interested, there are plenty of TH-cam videos haha. Of course, if you like it your way, then by all means do it as such! Love from Canada ❤️
Once I spontaneously travelled home during the uni semester (missing lectures to do so) to see my family. My dad died three weeks later and this turned out to be the last time I would see him. I'm 23 as well and I am so glad that I didn't miss that chance, you are never too old for a visit home.
The best thing about being an adult is that YOU get to decide how to spend YOUR time - it doesn’t matter what anyone else thinks. You do you, Ruby. When I was at uni I quite often went home at weekends, it was great to have some peace and a change of scenery. Keep on doing what you do 😃
Enjoyed the wellness theme and thinking of new ways to implement some solutions. So good to see your integrity in standing firm in what is best for you despite the protests of other people against your preferences. “Know your own happiness.” - Jane Austen 🕯️🏡📚♥️☕️🐙👨👩👧👧
Something I find curious is that in my experience as a Latina (I'm from Chile), I felt more pressured to come home every weekend after college. I suppose that although we go to other cities to study, we do not have university dormitories like in Europe or the United States, and we are also a culture that highly values family, physical union, contact, etc. Many times I wanted to stay studying or go out with my friends but I felt guilty for not going to see my parents or grandparents, etc. Over time I improved it, but it's funny how we put pressure on ourselves.
At times I find people saying Ruby is alone most of the time. Lol, plz give it a break. She is alone but not lonely. If you love the company of yourself, then you're never alone. Friendship is overrated bs. She is doing her future self a favor❤❤❤
Just because she doesn’t film being around people doesn’t mean she’s alone. Just because she’s a you tuber doesn’t mean everyone around her should or wants to be filmed.
Ruby’s videos are so calming and relaxing to watch. Every one of her videos just motivate me to keep studying even if it isn’t a study vlog. Thank you Ruby for motivating me. (Literally for the past 5 years ♥️)
Love your videos they are part of my self care. As well as journaling. Walking. Spending time outside in nature. Reading classic novels. All help me refresh. Thankyou Ruby for helping so many people. ❤❤❤
I really like that you didn't use bg/ambient music in each shot especially the library clip, the serenity and rawness of not only seeing but hearing the surroundings as you did, like you typing on keyboard and when you showed us the view from the window, so lovely, there is something about the quiet melancholy that I find so precious. I like that you were honest with yourself and your needs, you managed to heal and enjoy yourself whilst also doing the work you needed. No judging here, honestly, what "we should, have to do" is such an abstract nonsense rule that keeps us from our true self and what we truly want in life. You do YOU! Wish you best in all!
Some of my friends didn't understand why I spent a lot of my time at home while I was at uni. I tried to explain it to them but they didn't listen. I love spending time with my family and I'm not ashamed of that. And I love watching you do the same. Really, there is nothing wrong with that xxx
I always love going home during weekends. It just feels so much more like 'weekend' when I change scenery. I find that if I stay at uni I just do the same things as during the week and I don't feel like I can switch to a weekend mindset, spend time with my family and go outside.
Looking after yourself is important, spending time with family and friends is precious too. Our family has recently gone through a very sad loss of a young relative (not illness or accident)but we can’t be with the family as they’re overseas, it just makes u realise it’s important to create memories and touch base with the ppl you love xx but also to look after yourself no matter what stage of life u are going through.

The dynamics of having two living spaces. For five years I had an apartment in Berkeley, and my little house in the wine country, and traveled back and forth on weekends sometimes to do work "in the country", and sometimes just to be with my brothers (who live on the same property). It's a fun feeling isn't it to have two homes? Berkeley wore off after five years and covid was the impetus to let go of the Berkeley apartment and live only in the country. Sometimes I miss it because it's so busy and also such a bookish place, it was honestly inspiring for my writing. I'd never have written my novel without that two-home dynamic. Now I'm trying to figure out how to write the next novel in my one-home situation. Harder than you might think, why? Because environment is everything? Maybe.

❤ The stigma of going to your family: is that because then you don't study enough? Or because it's supposed to be childish? When I was a student, going to your parents meant studying more than staying in your own (new) home where there are friends and distractions. I'd love to understand the rational behind the stigma your mentioned! (Or maybe another student from the UK can explain 😊)
Going back to your family’s place is like detaching yourself from the academic setting in which you are when at university or university accommodation, hence it is perceived as an attempt to flee from your responsibilities and work and to instead linger idly at home.
Stigma is the wrong word and nothing to do with studying. We visited my daughter during term time, it was only an hour and half away, and she came home occasionally, usually if there was something with her old school friends in our home town or a family special event. However I preferred she was building a good independent social life at Uni rather than clinging to her childhood. She had a month vacation at Easter, Christmas and 3 months in the summer!

Hi, Ruby! I just recently started watching your channel, and I wanted to thank you for all of the great tips and motivation you've given throughout your videos! No pressure to answer this, but I was also wondering if you had any good tips on how to make writing essays fun, especially when you don't know what to write. I would say this is the task I dread the most in school, but I want to get to the point where I feel confident in them and am able to have more fun writing them. Thanks again for all the inspiration, and good luck with the rest of your time at Oxford! ❤
What is the full length of your master's program? In the U.S. a master's is around two years on average, give or take how many classes you take per semester.
@@RubyGranger8 I might have gone for a master's if I could have done it in 9 months! 😄Some can do a master's in a year here, but that's overloading on classes. There are some 8 week classes, but most (at least that I've seen) are 16 week with the fall semester going from around late August to December and the spring semester going January to May. Summer courses are offered as well that are 8 week and 4 week. I wish there were more structures like yours.
The stigma about going home that you are talking about, I don't feel that.. I am from India. I am 25 and this is the first time that I am living away from home. I am doing my Master's degree in Engineering and people here just go home, whenever leaves are long enough... Weekends are often not enough because a train journey home itself may take some people 2 days... I only live 8-12 hours away though... (Our weekends this semester are only Sundays, Saturdays are working) so I haven't gone home. I did last semester... :) I talk to my parents on a video call every day... for maybe even an hour on 4-5 days out of 7... haha... My roommate goes to her cousin's place ( they are older than us, so they take care of her :P ) almost every other week... It is quite normal here! and I am glad. Because it is normal here, maybe it could become the same way there as well :D

Hi Ruby! Love the vlog as always ❤ would you ever do a video on how to read more vs phone/screen time? I need some tips on how to read instead of being on my phone 😅
Ruby I just love your vlogs. I’m a mature student studying part time and your videos always help to motivate me to do better so I’m thankful. Also just wondering where you got your smeg coffee cup? Thank you

Last year I started rewatching The Simpsons and I've come to seson 10. Love Bart and the weirdness in that family.
Mental health is so important to our all our well-being if you are struggling talk to somebody take care x
I really love your videos ☕📚📑📖🩷
Love this vlog, Ruby!
Love the Dvořák in the background😍❤️🎶
I know this is out of content but I would love to see Ruby create a video 'What's on my ipad' is just a suggestion though! Anyways like your videos!
I really liked the music in this video!
Ruby I am so happy you went home and spent time with family. It's so nice to see you have lovely family time. Thanks for sharing!
What is the full length of your master's program? In the U.S. a master's is around two years on average, give or take how many classes you take per semester.
Only 9 months :( I wish it were longer x
@@RubyGranger8 I might have gone for a master's if I could have done it in 9 months! 😄Some can do a master's in a year here, but that's overloading on classes. There are some 8 week classes, but most (at least that I've seen) are 16 week with the fall semester going from around late August to December and the spring semester going January to May. Summer courses are offered as well that are 8 week and 4 week. I wish there were more structures like yours.
Such a lovely video (as always!) thank you!
The charming life of the academic blue stocking. Deliciously smart and very Vita Sackville West.
Hi Ruby! Can you please drop the link of the music used in the intro of this video?

In Belgium, everybody goes home to their parents every weekend, so going home once being a stigma, is absolutely wild to me
