Misty Copeland has been sounding the alarm about the dance community (tights, shoes, etc.) for years. I'm glad this is being brought to light.
I saw TikTok on this too. It’s so crazy that they’re mad about black dancers, wanting their skin tone because it aesthetically looks better. It’s just dumb and they wanna complain that they’re trying to change things against tradition.
I wouldnt want white people color matching, or anyone color matching. What if someone wants nude who is deeper in complexion? so what? sheesh. Also, white people are palm colored, not white! no human is white. Unless youre albino, you are brown because of melanin.
Even calling the beige color nude or natural is problematic. My daughter needed "nude" pumps for a pageant. I purchased brown pumps and the pageant director told her she needed to change them for "nude!" Her brown shoes were nude ON HER! We were done with it.

I am glad she didn't take the dress.
Me too.👍
I was just about to comment this! People are so critical if she had taken it, it would be like sending a message "you can treat me any type of way as long as you just throw some money/stuff at me." Or folks would say "it's not really a big deal to her, she only found a way to get a free dress..." etc.
I'm also glad she didn't insist on still paying for the dress after they made that free offer either, because it would have heinous to give more money to a shop that tried to sneak in an extra $200 charge just to replace something that barely cups her breasts. Unless it is labor intensive, requires a specialty technique/application/tailor, or is a rare fabric, I don't know how that shop can justify those charges with a clear conscience.
@@chantalalexander I agree, returning the dress was the best move.
I appreciate Tamron pointing this out. Unfortunately some retailers lose no sleep at all charging women of color extra. On top of the pink tax is the black tax. It's not just for clothing either. It's for all types of goods and services. And if you speak up or push back you are the "Angry Black Woman". This is why we need to invest in and support black businesses.
I hope she got her deposit back
Me too because if she did, she’ll always remember that terrible experience of being up charged for being a black woman. She should just go with a black wedding dress designer - there’s so many of them and even in Toronto too! She just has to shop around and find one.
I’m so glad she refused the dress!!! The shop needs to publicly acknowledge how problematic this is and then refund anybody that they discriminated against who allowed themselves to be scammed this way.
Not just the shop baby, the whole Dmd industry!

Character of a man can be seen in how he loves his lady ❤️
'Why is it free to have my skin color?' [Deep moment]
Right
That's the question!
@Mpirefilms It’s not free. What if you’re a man that wears a size 18 shoe or a woman that wears a size 50 Q bra? Those cost more because they make less of them. Is that fair? Why should a store that has a majority white clientele keep a custom item just in case a black celebrity decides to shop there? She most likely went to an expensive white bridal store but she’s a reality TV star so she’s taken aback by an up charge ? Why do they want us to get upset about everything? They cost more because they were recently invented. 3:23
Exactly, to the original comment. It should not matter what clients any bridal shop gets, they should ALWAYS carry optional colors, for various skin tones of various ethnicities. Simple.

@@calisongbird Honestly, there is no point naming the specific shop because its a problem in the industry not just that specific shop. As the interviewer mentioned, it happens with tights, vests, lipstick etc "Nude" is the default for white people, everyone else either doesn't have an equivalent or if there is we pay more. As a Black Bridal store owner, I completely feel her pain and frustration. Unfortunately, we store owners are at the mercy of Bridal designers who have these ridiculous policies, many whom are European designers that don’t care about accommodating people of color.
Things are getting better in the industry though. One of our designers Maggie Sottero is so so awesome and they give you the Bridal cups for free when you need a darker color. They also use many black and brown models to showcase their designs.
Another issue we as Bridal store owners deal with is plus-size up charges. Many designers charge extra after a size 16 which pisses me off. It such a terrible thing to have to tell someone that they have to pay more because they are larger size.
The designers usually don’t pay that much extra for the fabric because they have purchased it in bulk ahead of time. It doesn’t require that much more in terms of fabric.
Us curvy women deal with this Everywhere we buy clothing! Not harrowing enough to shop when you're big, then to feel punished on top of that! Thanks for the mention.
Although to a point I can understand over a certain size (I’m a size 20 ) as they will have to use more material as for a colour difference tho that’s ridiculous
I can't understand paying extra to match your skin tone yet when some bridal fabrics are so very expensive and then there's hand beading etc... when extra metres of fabric are needed to fit a bride it seems obvious that the gown will cost more.
I mean extra product should equal more money. ..
You pay more for an 8 count of dinner rolls than you do a 4 count. What are you on about

“You’re telling me that it’s free to be white” lololol
What a beautiful couple. May they have a long and love filled marriage.
Way to go Joey. Realistically, most White people will never understand how and what Black people have to navigate through on a regular basis. I shop a lot at a particular department store. A couple of years ago during the winter, I had to take off my down coat and scarf in the store in order to be comfortable. When I got to the counter to pay for my items, the cashier questioned me about my coat, etc. She was implying that I had either stolen them or was hiding merchandise. There were customers behind me and I'll bet she didn't do that to them. I told her she could smell the perfume on my scarf if she didn't believe me. Before I left the store, I called to speak with a manager. The manager apologized and said she would speak to that cashier. I had a coworker who told me he faced discrimination bc of his last name (Polish). I told him that his wife and I could walk into a store in the exact same outfit, but I would be the one Security would follow. They wouldn't know her last name, but they'd certainly know she was White and I am not. Yes, it is 2024, but prejudice still exists. Just like heirlooms, it's still being passed down from generation to generation.
I agree. I’m Hispanic, U.S.-born, but my white latino dad doesn’t get judged until he speaks with a thick scent. My darker Latina mom has been followed in the stores when I was growing up. My brother who is darker than me (we’re all different shades) has been told he’s not American (we’re literally Cali-born). Even then, despite the different levels of discrimination we’ve experienced I’ve noticed my Black friends and husband get it worse. It’s so stupid that discrimination exists, it’s never made sense to me. I do say something when I hear anything negative said to anyone because imho it slows progress for humanity.
If everyone was able to uplift and help each other we’d progress sooo much further.
I'm Asian so I definitely don't get the same level of discrimination as black and brown people. Just enough to know my place in the skin tone hierarchy of the US. I had to remind my white Jewish friend that while antisemitism is still a very real problem, her problem isn't visible to anyone who doesn't already know she's Jewish or unless the government makes her wear a Star of David like WWII. Although I've had people stare at me, make comments, or watch me from time to time, it's not a daily occurrence and most of the time I can walk around without being constantly reminded of my race or ethnicity. It wasn't until Covid when anti-Asian hate became a thing that I finally understood in a small way what it must be like to walk down the street afraid of being targeted for being born into the skin that you live in. I reminded my friend that she as a white Jewish woman and that I as an Asian woman we should take our own experiences of discrimination as reminders of the hate in this country and to strengthen our resolve to be allies to those who face worse forms of discrimination. It's completely ridiculous that 60 years after the Civil Rights movement began we are still having these discussions. Honestly, all of us have a reason to fight against bigotry and discrimination and inequality. It serves no one to let this continue on.
I have had many problems in shops with people and I am white. I have also been treated badly in shops by assistants, this one worker claimed I was lying about a discount card and held it back from me making a scene in front of everyone and saying what was I doing with it. No apology and the Manager was not interested. Another time I was swatching lipsticks and this white woman, I am white also!! was so rude and made like out was stealing them!! she said "what are you doing?" so rudely and aggressively. I have also been treated badly by every variant of skin colour including black. I am here to say that because it is not nice for people to think it is tied to a skin colour, it is human nature, a lot of people are not nice. The most recent time I had somebody shout something at me was a black man alongside his friends he did it on 3 occasions, every time I rode my bike past him even when I asked him to stop when I couldn't take it anymore he made fun of me and then went out of his way to shout at me. He did not know me from Adam, I was just cycling and minding my own business. Rememeber it is HUMAN NATURE, a lot of humans are just not nice people.
It's not their reality, so they don't see it. To them, it's something made up. Your last statement was powerful and true!
@@sosoo000It's a shame you were harassed. But this goes back to what I said. Because it's not your reality, to you it doesn't exist. Something that you may have experienced on occasion versus experiences people of color experience every single day without merit is not the same and it dismisses our experiences as "It's not that bad. It happens to everyone." When that is most definitely not the case. Racial discrimination and systemic racism is a real thing. Unless you experience it, you won't see what other people see. I'm glad this young man at least acknowledged it and is getting an eye opener to his fiance's reality instead of dismissing or excusing it. Hopefully more people like him will start to see and speak out to hold people accountable.
So happy Tessa said no to the dress!! Wishing them the best life ever. I love your passion Joey!!
As a Gen-X Black woman, I remember buying stockings (pantyhose) back in the day, and there were all sorts of colors, but the color of “nude” - which meant skin color - was always a very light kinda beige-ish color…basically “nude” only for White women (or the very light-skinned). There was no nude color for darker-toned Black women. That has changed somewhat over the years, as companies have learned to incorporate other nude colors.
So, the fact that this bridal dress shop was charging extra for any other nude color than for white, as if that’s “the standard,” is wild and so biased! 🤦🏾♀️

It’s nice to see men who are steadfast enough to be aware of these biases and not fall into the gaslighting that so often comes with it. I’ve seen many interracial relationships fail because a person bought into the idea that their partner deserves to be treated differently, just because some relative or store owner or coworker or whoever decides it is so.
I think it times people don’t like dealing with the drama or admitting prejudices exist, and I get that. I think that some men at times like humbling women by not letting them get to egotistically big headed. Letting them get knocked down a peg & not doing, saying, acknowledging it, or even feeding into it with gasoline or two or knocking them down their confidence a peg or two them selves. Because of their own insecurities. And feeling that the person that they’re with might get too bigheaded and act up or go for better. So knock their confidence, than lift her up and keep her locked up. But wow! Thats one principled, brave and secure stand up man. Lucky her. Salute! 🫡
@@jashuasmith9361I’ve found that people want to date people of different races while also not wanting to deal with the prejudices, and I’ve also found that it’s rooted in their own insecurities as well as their attachments to certain ideologies that are both generational and toxic. Those people really have no business being in relationships with people who will be forced to endure the drama single-handedly that their partners have opted out of assisting with
Then you should know it when it happens with other types of prejudices. I’m a Black woman named Karen. What do you think my life has been like the last 4 years? I had to walk off my job because my Black supervisor harassed me about my name. Oh, and did you catch MSNBC using xenophobia (foreigner prejudice) against Russians? I am an English tutor who’s been selected by many Russians to be their tutor.

Funny she only dates and likes pink though and thinks that's better and not black. Opp
There are so many obstacles for people of color to always overcome, it can be overwhelming.
Her man realized, he needed to step up, and sound the alarm for his lady.
This man Rocks!
And, what a beautiful couple you are!!
Sis is Unbought and Unbothered! She rejected the offer of a free dress🎉
I love that she rejected the free dress as well. You go girl.
Good for her for rejecting the dress offer
I'm glad she rejected the free dress too because they probably was trying to "prove" that she just wanted something for free...when all she wanted in reality was to be treated fairly!
Now this warmed my heart.
You should never be used to being mistreated.
Fellow Canadian here! Always loved Joey! So happy he stood up for Tessa!
Did anyone else peep the little handshake they did a few times? Like, "I got your back forever" That is too cute!
Yes! Too adorable
Yes! I loved watching them do it so comfortably in front of the crowd like it’s their “thing”. You can tell, they are proud to show the world how they show each other affection publicly, even if it is a cute little handshake 🤝🥰❤️
Yesssss
Yes. I came to the comments to see if anyone else noticed. You can tell this is their thing. They did it so naturally without even looking down at their hands. It was so sweet.
He's a keeper what a beautiful couple. Love and happiness always.
I just wish this couple a happy life together❤.
Now I think I wanna go watch the season. She seems so caring and loving. They just fit well together. What a beautiful couple so much love there.
They were so adorable in that season, he didn't want the new guy speaking to her, he just interrupted their conversation, he was hilarious 😂
The whole season was AMAZING! And that's coming from someone who gave up on BIP US because it was always the same drama. The Canadian one has an intelligent, well-rounded funny cast and the all of the romantic storylines have arcs. Ugh... TRUST ME! You won't be disappointed!
Beautiful couple love when spouse sticking for their partner 👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽.
This is why WE need to support OUR designers…designing, produce and sell OUR OWN EVERYTHING!
Who is we and our? Sounds pretty exclusive with an aroma of segregation.
@@BuckFidenMD4547 BLACK PEOPLE....Don't want you to be all confused and how you feel is typical when it comes to us, but I couldn't care less, like you don't care, we will not beg or force our coins on you, we can make space for us with our own, since white designers have made it crystal clear who they make clothes for.....Play games with someone else, we live this!
EXACTLY!!
@@BuckFidenMD4547 Yes correct… Who and Our are defined as the skin tones that are being uncharged by those who determined to segregate and be exclusive to them and their’s.
@@BuckFidenMD4547 WE as in BLACK PEOPLE sir🙂 don’t try to be dense on purpose and flip this into something it’s not, God bless
The blackest guy just killed me lol… they are so lovely ❤
I love Gackt
Exactly!!!
Please explain it to me; I didn't get the reference. (From a different country/culture.)
@@s.susanmarandi9080 The band is black. They're getting married with music from a classic black band. Look up Earth, Wind, & Fire.
@@s.susanmarandi9080probably too late but Tamron was referring to the choice of music. Earth Wind and Fire are a black band and since the guy is white Tamron was just poking fun at him
She is moving in such grace. Leave it alone and behind.
I’ve been looking at Tamron’s shoes the whole time. How did she know I needed the dets!?!
He played no games about his bride! Way to go y'all!
Beautiful couple. I love that he stood up for her
That’s a beautiful man who can stick up for his woman!👏👏 🎉🎉He’s a keeper! Hope they will have many years of laughter and happiness! 💯🌹💃🏼🎉🎉💕💖
Let's talk about foundations that name all the light shades "natural, pure" and all the dark shades "caramel, espresso". If food is the naming convention, then keep it 💯. Name the light shades "mayo, rice"!
😂😂
Mayo 😂😂😂
😂😂
Lol smh
Mahogany... deep chocolate
"Earth wind and fire" really made me laugh with delight. I wish them the happiest wedding and marriage. God bless them! 🥰🥰🥰
Continue to be a protector as God created men to be 😊
They are THE cutest couple. Many years of laughter and love to them! They already there.
Color shouldn't matter when buying undergarments or anything else. My daughter will only wear black underwear (teenager). But to get the 6 pack of all black underwear, opposed to the the white, or the multicolored packs (that comes with 1 pair of black) I have to pay more. They are the same damn underwear. It's ridiculous! Black, brown, or what's popular, should not cost more!!!!! I am an ONLY parent and i work my a%# off, 70+ hours every week, (some of my hard earned $ goes toward overpriced BLACK underwear)! I shouldn't have to pay more for everything, for my daughter or for myself, as a women. I'm just so sick of women being overcharged as well!
Thank you so much for spouting out about this. Sending Love & Light to the beautiful couple 💗
Love how in tuned they are with one another with their intimate handshake that is meant for only them.
Thank you for this story. Thank you Joey for speaking up for women of color and all women it needed to be heard.🙏🏾🙌🏾🔥
I know that’s right Joey! Stick up for your lady! 👏👏👏👏
She is absolutely beautiful and he is a real man.❤
He's a real man because he stood up to a racist white woman? Lol
Absolutely ❤
In the UK you'd be dismissed as crazy & problematic if you complained about anything pertaining to racial discrimination. This is why i prefer the US, at least ppl have a voice, will call BS out & get support.
Imagine the TH-cam warriors “ Innocent Shop attacked by “migrants”
@@aishalondonuk3769 Right! The gaslight is unreal. I've seen it happen over & over again.
As a woman from the Caribbean that was one of the first things I came to realise when I came to the UK. The moment you point out the racism or racial undertone in something said or done, they gaslight you about it. I wish black citizens in the UK would speak up and expose what happens because it seems that for years perpetrators of this have been allowed to continue with it because the system and society accepts and allows it. Just my opinion.
@@Loveleyflora but wait for it… “they” have studies thst CONFiRM the UK isn’t a racist place! Lmao. The Original OGs of the “imperialist” mindset don’t want their acclaim anymore !
Well they went to tik tok, the company had to salvage their reputation quickly. The US treats blk people despicably
Now that's how you stick up for someone you love! Bless them both!
The look oh his face still as he is learning about the challenges women of color have experienced. To see the 🔥 and compassion he showed makes me smile. They are a cute and sweet couple, and I wish them all the best! ❤
This is how you do it. You are both so gorgeous with good brains and super high self esteem. You plan on getting married in Toronto, can't figure out if you are both in the U.S.and if this is an American or Canadian on line company?. ..doesn't matter they are all the same until someone calls them out.Joey, mothers ,other young women and all kinds of family members are beaming with admiration and maybe some jealousy over the wonderful husband and protector you'll be for Your so very beautiful wife to be.😲OMG Love you both so much.
I love this story because, it shows me two strong people that know what to do in a challenging situation.
Just the kind of man every woman needs in her corner!!❤❤👍👍💪💪👏👏👏. Good job Joey, you are a hero!
Congratulations on your impending nuptials and your successes together.
👏🏼 That's how you do it! And her husband stood up for her and basically for all black women. It's so unfortunate how being racist/ bias still happens today in so many ways. I myself experience that twice and it's not a good feeling no matter what you look like and that feeling/ experience never goes away.
