This was a revelation! Thank you. This is a higher level of craft. There is so much to learn from in every frame of this video. Not only the result and general technique, the tools, methods workspace, etc. but the way the hands move, manipulate and position, the fine control of pressure, the efficiency. I noticed that there is a certain lack of tension in the hands and finges, they are precise but for the most part relaxed. In that respect you can see how it resembles playing a guitar or instrument... odd connection but I think still valid. Thanks for showing us how it's done! The vid speaks for itself. I have thought of model making, but wasn't sure whether to start with cardboard or foam board. I see that cardboard would be better for a beginner like me.
Something makes me think such cardboard would also form a perfect basis for a composite material that would stand up to end-use requirements, if it was allowed to soak and cure with a suitable resin. Just that I haven't tried and thus don't know a suitable resin. Also it can get mighty messy. Using sheet styrene can of course be an alternative, and it can be welded together. But it's not nearly as flexible to work with as cardboard.
I usually save up cardboard boxes so I can use them later for model making but I do not always get clean cuts. It sort of depends on the cardboard I’m using, is there a way to tell if the cardboard is good enough to give me clean edges??
The key to clean edges is a sharp blade it doesn't really have anything to do with the media that you're using unless it's just way too hard to cut but there should not be an issue with cardboard.
What is the best and cheapest material to use for shaping molds in your opinion? I am sure it varies for each type of material but I am trying to find ways to help recycle things. You seem very smart so thought I would ask.
Where did you get those cool weights and the cool heavy-aluminum straight-edge? It looks like the extra weight of the straight-edge make cutting lots of things easier?
Ok so, for an art project i need to do a half human sized fence/gate and i thought that i could do it with papier mâché but i dont have enough time. I also though about cardboard but i'm not sure. I only have a week to do it so can someone give me advide please
u need buy a neje 30 watt laser cutter to cut out this stuff! not to expensive. well these shapes are simple but for other more complicated stuff. maybe interlocking pieces.

@@EricStrebel we are doing a project for my Architectural Designing class that one has to be stereotomic vs tectonic. So tectonic is looking like a cube that you have to see the volume inside like how you did with your chipboard cube, while stereotomic cubes are working fr inside out

Custom machined, left over from a glass blowing prototype we made many years ago

Well you are going to have 3 rounded edges and then a sharp edge. This might not be the consistency you're going for
