This song is just as relevant today as it was 30 years ago. This song is so badass, the guitars, bass, drums, and lyrics are a work of art. Probably my favorite U2 song.
The specific way The Edge set the guitar/amp sound with digital delay, reverb, and chorus along with his usage of the slide proves he is the greatest special effects master of the past 35+ years!!! Incredible song!!!
Founder of the band. He was the one who posted the looking for musicians to start a rock band note on the bulletin board at their school. There’s a bootleg of the McNichols Arena (Denver) show where they shot the B&W footage from R&H where they start playing Spanish Eyes, and Larry stops and says “Let’s start that again.” They do, and once they get rolling, Bono says “That’s Larry Mullen, Jr. there. He’s the leader of the pack!” One record co trying to sign them wanted them to replace Larry and the rest of the band turned them down flat. Tells you what his band mates think of Larry. Most musicians on the brink of getting signed would say “Sorry, Larry-you understand, right?”
I was there, when the flag came up, Jimi Hendrix’s Star Spangled Banner was playing. Both nights, I was at both shows!! BB King and his band opened, epic!
This concert (I was at the Denver show - the black and white portions of the film shot at McNichols Arena) STILL ranks as one of the best shows (after thousands) I've ever seen.
Fuuuuuuuuck Im So jealous I wass Like One Year Old hahahahah but I have to say I saw this film when I wass like 5 And I never FORGET IT ........ I started to learn english because this songs and now im 34 and this is so relevant right now.
I’ve watched you in the crowd at list 1000 times this movie came out in 89 in Italy’s theatres the audience went bunkers was sold out every nights I’ve got it on video tape Not a U2 fan anymore though,,,,
I love this album....and Bullet the Blue Sky LIVE first heard on a High End stereo system sounded like nothing I had ever heard before....Guitar solo came to life, hairs on my arms stood up, and the brilliant words......CLASSIC! One of my All Time Favorites!
I was fortunate enough to see them live 5 times between '82 and '92- culminating with being in the third row at the Old Mile High Stadium on Achtung Baby Tour!!! Incredible memories and love this song to death...
This is the best version ever I still remember the first time I saw Rattle & Hum its a piece of art from the music to the photography and you got love The Edge the men is pure talent.
"For the God I believe in isn't short of cash mister!" Great line & Awesome performance. Especially by the Edge. His guitar playing on this one was brilliant.
Miltos G I am very awake. Ya know Bono is one of the biggest Christian supporters alive. And 10 million people are alive today in Africa solely because of his One Foundation. He hasn't sold anything man.
John6yt Your opinion. But millions are deeply invested in their faith all over the world. It'd be great of we didn't have idiots like Milto thinking that one of the greatest bands ever sold their soul, and itd be great if you could respect others faith. To you it's a fairytale, to others it's their way of life. All due respect my guy. Agree to disagree I guess. Let's just say it's a great performance by a great band?
Lyrics: In the howling wind comes a stinging rain See it driving nails Into the souls on the tree of pain From the firefly, a red orange glow See the face of fear Running scared in the valley below Bullet the blue sky Bullet the blue sky Bullet the blue Bullet the blue In the locust wind comes a rattle and hum Jacob wrestled the angel And the angel was overcome You plant a demon seed You raise a flower of fire See them burning crosses See the flames higher and higher Bullet the blue sky Bullet the blue sky Bullet the blue Bullet the blue This guy comes up to me His face red like a rose in a thorn bush Like all the colors of a royal flush And he's peeling off those dollar bills Slapping them down One hundred, two hundred And I can see those fighter planes And I can see those fighter planes Across the mud huts where the children sleep Through the alleys of a quiet city street You take the staircase to the first floor Turn the key and slowly unlock the door As a man breathes into a saxophone And through the walls you hear the city groan Outside is America Outside is America, America Across the field you see the sky ripped open See the rain through a gaping wound Pounding on the women and children Who run Into the arms Of America
Yeah, it’s hard to pull off the angry young man thing when you’re worth half a billion dollars, own multiple homes and think nothing of hiring a private jet to fly your favorite shit kicker hat out to you. They were at the high water mark here, though, no doubt.
Saw these guys 12/5/87 and the show rocked from beginning to end, but the coolest part of BTBS is the spotlight bit at about 4:00-4:14. In the stadium, it seemed to “throw” the guitar sound where Bono was pointing it. I was tripping balls and it blew me away, and if you watch R&H in stereo, you can get a sense of it, so it wasn’t just my acid warped perception.
I saw them in SF during their first leg of The Joshua Tree tour. Amazing live. Watching the cable wrangler having to follow Bono around as he performed because his mic wasn't wireless was great. lol
This song rocks ,From the opening of the drums then bass to guitar and then vocals ... With lyrics that actually have meaning ...strait up power house song ... I just love how there drummer pounds his snare drum and he crashes his cymbals with pure aggression.. but most of all the edges haunting guitar solo is makes the song stick ... One of my top ten favorites of all time...
Bootleg collector here: it's not really uncommon at all. The tightest bands often sounded better onstage, as a unit playing in tandem. The chemistry is lost when everyone is tracking their parts individually.
I love the fact that U2 are political. They are more aware of what is going on than most politicians ✌🤞 This was filmed here in Tempe. I was on the outside enjoying the event. A spiritual experience
I was living in Tempe also back in 87 if I remember right. Also I remember in the news at the time some kid had painted his parents garage door with the picture of them that was on the Joshua Tree Album.
I saw a video of this bassline and even though it is technically simple, the phrasing and timing is very unique and not something anybody else would probably come up with.
@@renorailfanning5465his is Adam " as Bono one said once. He ment that Adam came up with this baseline that became 'Bullet ' More to the story is that Adam and Edge are actually very much apart from each other one this song, they are not synchronized with their instrumentes. It shouldn't work ,but it does. Antoher example on how much u2 managed to make music as a band, considering that in the early days they were a band before the learned to play. Btw, I read somewhere that on the Zoo tv tour, Adam had a very "heavy foot" on his bass ,that on the italian shows his bass was actually picked up on the Richters scale
This is the live version I have been looking for the other versions are good but they seem a little different can't believe it's been 30 years since this song was released awesome
I might be reading too much into it, but I wonder if the spotlight bit was Bono's way of telling the American audience, "Hey the spotlight's on you. Maybe you need to take a look at yourselves, and what your gov't is doing..."

Masterpiece! Underrated song! One of my favourite! Who agree?
Totally
Love it
Absolutely
I agree
they've got many great tunes but this is my favorite ❤
"The sky is ripped open, and the rain pours through a gaping wound...pelting the women and children", I live in San Salvador and I agree with this.
I'm from county Tyrone Strabane and had to deal with our occupation for over 900 years. Time to give us freedom.
The Joshua tree and Rattle and hum Era of U2 was Fucking epic!
That is my favorite u2 album.
Too me after achtung baby it went downhill, this was epic
In a league of their own and always have been
@@mixhaelamikovichand always an amazing (stadium) live band. Their sound is a wall on itself for a 4 piece band
This song is just as relevant today as it was 30 years ago. This song is so badass, the guitars, bass, drums, and lyrics are a work of art. Probably my favorite U2 song.
Exactly, and they did rework some background video during their recent tour to do that.
Amazing song, amazing The Edge!
Probably my favorite U2 song... same about 80% of U2 songs......
It's probably more relevant today than ever!
what do you think about this Song is about?
Easily one of their most underrated and does NOT and DID NOT get enough play on the radio.
Agreed!!
so difficult for them to create a better song...
You're sooo right. 😎
Well it wasn’t released as a single, so yeah.
Easily one of the greatest musical compositions of the 1980s
The Edge was so on point in this performance. So underrated as an artist.
The Edge was on fire here. Jesus!
The specific way The Edge set the guitar/amp sound with digital delay, reverb, and chorus along with his usage of the slide proves he is the greatest special effects master of the past 35+ years!!! Incredible song!!!
He’s a guitar giant.
Totalmente de acuerdo....
I think i see something about the edge having a 6 gigawatt amp. 😲 something like a small town needs for power.
Yes crazy wow just mind blowing
@@vettemuziekjes He usually plays thru multiple Vox AC30s.
30 yrs later and this song still gives me chills.
Me too
"OUTSIDE IS AMERICA.....OUTSIDE IS AMERICA!!!"
The ultimate highpoint of U2
Essa música do U2 é sensacional. Esse solo de guitarra do Edge é um fenômeno.
Saudações do Brasil.
Out of the hundreds of concerts I saw in the 70's and 80's, seeing U2 live was the best. This song never got the airplay it deserved.
This version is the only performance of this powerful song that encapsulates EXACTLY how I see this song in my mind, coloring included.
Well put
Larry Mullen, one of my personal favorite drummers of all time! Nothing but love and respect for this genius!

Yep. There to..rain and cold
You were there,at the Sun Devil Stadium in Tempe,Arizona on 12/20/1987?

This is one of their best songs. Freaking awesome!!!
Absolutely Positively LOVE the bass of Adam Clayton
Brilliant song! Gives me goose bumps every time I listen to it ... especially this version.
Bryan Davis , it was amazing to be there for it. I still remember it well. I was a young child and it effected me deeply.
The clarity of Bono's voice, the music....instruments......AMAZING!!
Morgan Coast is your middle name Todd?
Real and hardcore Rock and Roll!! Like a helterskelter yeah!!
I was fortunate enough to see them live 5 times between '82 and '92- culminating with being in the third row at the Old Mile High Stadium on Achtung Baby Tour!!! Incredible memories and love this song to death...
The Edge's guitar work on that song is beyond awesome.
Love Rattle & Hum. Fantastic movie & album. ❤
Damn... this song never loses its power.
I've watched this movie a hundred times and I never knew until now listening on headphones that The Edges solo was hard panned left and right.
I just got the chills listening to that.
This is the best version ever I still remember the first time I saw Rattle & Hum its a piece of art from the music to the photography and you got love The Edge the men is pure talent.
Seen these live twice, amazing band, loved them since I was 15yrs old. Still great today as they was back then.
“Even his mother calls him THE EDGE!” - Bono
"For the God I believe in isn't short of cash mister!" Great line & Awesome performance. Especially by the Edge. His guitar playing on this one was brilliant.
Seconded. I so love that line. Spot on. Truth.

I like how the crowd erupts when The Edge starts that guitar slide.
I was there this night. It was awesome!
It was glorious. After BB King, Hendrix’s Star Bangle Banner, then this. I was there both nights.
One of their best.
Legendary.
I agree mix politics and music, art is a purposeful way to share. Is America listening and thinking about the arms of America.
All U2's early album's were great.... Have them all on vinyl and cassette.....
Best version!!!!
Magic. They are magic.
Lyrics:
In the howling wind comes a stinging rain
See it driving nails
Into the souls on the tree of pain
From the firefly, a red orange glow
See the face of fear
Running scared in the valley below
Bullet the blue sky
Bullet the blue sky
Bullet the blue
Bullet the blue
In the locust wind comes a rattle and hum
Jacob wrestled the angel
And the angel was overcome
You plant a demon seed
You raise a flower of fire
See them burning crosses
See the flames higher and higher
Bullet the blue sky
Bullet the blue sky
Bullet the blue
Bullet the blue
This guy comes up to me
His face red like a rose in a thorn bush
Like all the colors of a royal flush
And he's peeling off those dollar bills
Slapping them down
One hundred, two hundred
And I can see those fighter planes
And I can see those fighter planes
Across the mud huts where the children sleep
Through the alleys of a quiet city street
You take the staircase to the first floor
Turn the key and slowly unlock the door
As a man breathes into a saxophone
And through the walls you hear the city groan
Outside is America
Outside is America, America
Across the field you see the sky ripped open
See the rain through a gaping wound
Pounding on the women and children
Who run
Into the arms
Of America
Thanks but I think everyone that’s watched this video doesn’t need the lyrics! We’re here for a reason and that reason is BADASS U2!!!!
Love this song❤
Best Rock song they’re ever done! Saw them live 4 times. When they played the intro, each time I thought the stadium was gonna implode.
It honestly sounds like a monster is buried within the arena trying to escape. Absolutely insane!
I’ve never heard Edge play like this before and will probably never hear it again this song is one of my all time favourites 😊😊❤xxxxx
The God I believe in isn't short on cash mister!
And the look on Adam Clayton's face towards the end. Priceless.
It's all about looking confident.
Try singing this full belt on a Monday morning it’s incredible sets you up for the rest of the😊 day 😊😊❤xxxx
The GOD I beieve in, isn't short of cash, mister!!!
I miss angry Bono.
Yep.
Yeah, it’s hard to pull off the angry young man thing when you’re worth half a billion dollars, own multiple homes and think nothing of hiring a private jet to fly your favorite shit kicker hat out to you. They were at the high water mark here, though, no doubt.
Baron Moritani,...just wait for it.....He will be out there like Jagger, and angry again one day!!!!
Bono sold his soul soon after this album. U2 lost it's political/social edge in the 90's.
I`m still angry!
The song just does for me I can’t stop myself from belting along with it and the lyrics are so very perceptive…..
It is a song apart it is a story of love death and the paranormal some in fact most people will never know its relevance to this age
Surely one of the very best peices of rock music, including the lyrics F...g Awesome Needs to be played at 120 decibels !!
"The God I believe in isn't short of cash, mister!"

Saw them at Foxboro Stadium for the Zoo Station tour. EPIC!!
God I love Edge. Fantastic song
30 years ago still rocks !!!
the most amazing thing about U2 is their ability to totally rock AND have a socially conscious message!
I just got Klipsch speakers!! Oh the sweet sweet sexy sounds of the Rattle and Hum. ....I can see those fighter planes.
The God I believe in isnt short of cash, mister.....what a great line
THE BEST BAND EVER NO ONE ELSE COME EVEN A LITTLE NEAR
Wow! I lose myself entirely in this version it’s on the album Rattle and Hum it’s monumental a tribute to the power of music
The world needs more ballsy music like this!
The Drones, Tropical Fuck Storm, Marc Ribot's Ceramic Dog...
Adam brings it on bass
Bean she and Larry kills on the drums.......
It's just not possible to play this song loudly enough.
+luvr381 I second that. This version is one of my favourite songs of all time.
I totally agree
Ender
But you can still try
Ender ds
Live is amazing :D
The Edge incinerates here, Jesus!
A rare example of the live version eclipsing the studio version.
i love/prefer alot of U2's songs live then from the album
Bootleg collector here: it's not really uncommon at all. The tightest bands often sounded better onstage, as a unit playing in tandem. The chemistry is lost when everyone is tracking their parts individually.
"Well the God I believe in isn't short of cash Mr!" Love it!
Come on! Best song and guitar solo!!!
What a fantastic band best in the world.❤😊
What I'd give to be at a late 80's/early 90's U2 show
My mum really loves this song she sings to it all the time she’s pretty good at it too
This was peak U2

adam clayton you fucking genius with that baseline
the edge you fucking genius with that lead guitar
lmj you fucking genius with those drums
I saw a video of this bassline and even though it is technically simple, the phrasing and timing is very unique and not something anybody else would probably come up with.
Todd Peterson check out PIL's "banging the door" on TH-cam. I love Adam but check that song out.

1 OF THE BEST U2 SONGS
This song and REM's orange crush reign Supreme.
Bullet to blue sky I love it .
This is the live version I have been looking for the other versions are good but they seem a little different can't believe it's been 30 years since this song was released awesome
Saw em 3 times - and they're amazing ... especially the Rattle and Hum era!
absolutely the best version of this song
I might be reading too much into it, but I wonder if the spotlight bit was Bono's way of telling the American audience, "Hey the spotlight's on you. Maybe you need to take a look at yourselves, and what your gov't is doing..."
Beautifully crafted song with such hard-hitting lyrics.
Pure perfection.
Back on this one again. If anyone makes music this good anymore, I have not had the privilege of hearing it..
My Favorite U2 song....
Either version
I could really imagine Hendrix performing this song live.
Never thought of that. Cool
His 'Machine Gun' was probably the inspiration for 'Bullet'
Congratulations U2!!! Your music is awesome!!!
5:21 - 5:35 Look at Adam's face, he's fuckin pissed.
Seeing them live was like a religious experience… they were incredible beyond reasonable comprehension
The whole intro is EPIC
The fact that this song is intentionally out of key is perfect! Thank you Eno!
"Outside is AMERICA!!!"
The best version of this song.
This song was a liberation for me in music!
" The God l believe in isn't short of cash Mister."
"For the God I believe in isn't short of cash mister!
This is one of the Top Ten performances on YT. It’s so good!
