Wow...this song is still fresh after all these years. I've been following Styx since 1974 and have seen them live several times. Even though this is Tommy Shaw solo (with an incredible orchestra), it's still Styx since this was a Tommy Shaw composition on the "Grand Illusion" album. There are only three longtime members of the band left. Tommy wasn't an original member and came along in 1975 to replace John Curulewski, who quit the band for various reasons. With Tommy's addition in Styx, big things happened with a long string of hits, gold albums and sold out concerts. Because of his contributions to the band, I consider him as important a member as any of the founders of the group. Oh...he was also a member of the "Damn Yankees". Thanks for your reaction to this video!
This is actually just Tommy Shaw (and Will Evankovich who is now a member of the current Styx lineup) with the CYO as the band and backing vocals in a 2016 concert. The whole Styx band did a concert in 2006 with the CYO of that year including "Fooling Yourself ( th-cam.com/video/brDDzKOcvPA/w-d-xo.html ). Also, during covid lockdown Tommy did a virtual collaboration with the CYO where everyone was remote ( th-cam.com/video/nECouHrb6aQ/w-d-xo.html ). Another Tommy Shaw Styx song to check out is "Crystal Ball" which is a song he wrote before joining styx in 1975. He was back home in Alabama after a while with Chicago band MS Funk wondering if should continue to pursue a music career. When he joined Styx he brought his acoustic-only version of it and they then made it into a Styx rock song.
What a tremendous experience for those youngsters ,performing with one of the greatest voices of the 20th century.Lulu is beautiful ,keep her away from hillbillies and she will go far ?
If you liked this so much you need to find the whole performance. It's amazing. Just look for Tommy Shaw and the Cleveland Contemporary Youth Orchestra. He does a version of Crystal Ball that includes an extra verse that was left out of the original recording.
From the album The Grand Illusion. Killer album with great cover artwork. Tommy Shaw does a great job with this. Caught them in the early 80s then again in 2010, great shows.
This is the 1st time that I've seen this video. I'll call it the "acoustic version" of that song (ie, done with no synthesizer or electric guitars). It was done very well but do check out the full STYX band doing the original song too. Other great song are Blue Collar Man (Long Nights), Come Sail Away, The Grand Illusion, Lady, Lorelei, Renegade, Suite Madame Blue to name a few.
I have this video. The whole thing is a concert. There's a break where he talks about how great it was working with the kids. Class act man.🤩 I've had the privilege of seeing then three times. Twice with the original line-up, Including John P 😇 and once with Laurence McGowen. They're still touring.
Styx | Fooling Yourself .. This was very interesting and i liked it. An orchestra with the singer/guitar player from Styx. They are one of my favorite groups. Maybe you will recognize this album and song...'The Grand Illusion' (1977)... They have a song called ... Lady... that is up there with the greats. Also ...Come Sail Away
I hope that these young people realize how lucky they are I was in the band and the orchestra back in the day and I probably would have killed for this opportunity !!
I should say. I still enjoy this version of this song. But the original is done with keyboards instead of a violin. Its just different. I love yall. Hi from Beaumont.
Its funny, the kids are all serious, but the adults old enough to have likely heard this song, in its original form, when they were young, well, they are grinning from ear to ear.
This is a very random comment, but... If you replace "angry" with "hungry", it really does change the meaning of the song! And, as a bonus, replace "fooling" with "feeding".
This song would be off the Grand illusions ladies come sail away castle walls crystal ball ladies he's off of different albums the last two Mr roboto Miss America Lord of the Rings I can name them all day oh yes The ballad they saying in 79 that was prone for making bras come off against the stage the song they did called babe
This is not the real version of this song at all. Try Come Sail Away. I gave yall the like anyway cause yall are so sweet. And I'm in Beaumont Texas. Howdy neighbor. Haha
I saw Styx with Heart at the mid-state fair in Paso Robles CA. Heart was great but Styx was awful. People listened for awhile then they got up and started walking around the concert area. I've been to alot of concerts but I never saw that before. Not sure if it was the crowd or what. Heart crowd is there for some kick ass rock n roll - I have no idea what Styx was playing, whatever it was, the fans weren't buyin' it.
Ive seen styx 3 times and i know there whole set list at all three shows I've been to by heart
Thanks for playing my song guys !
It wasn't exactly STYX, but it was their Lead singer Tommy Shaw.
and their song.

WOW! I've never seen this performance of this song! I enjoyed it so much!!! Great video! Thank you ladies!
Hey Ladies! Styx are from Chicago where i was born and raised. They played at my brother's prom before becoming famous. Great band!!!👍🎵🎼🎶😎
Very cool!
This was a concert by Styx and the Contemporary Youth Orchestra from Cleveland Ohio. Great concert to check out more songs from!
Those kids that got to solo knocked it out of the park! All of them nailed it big time!! Love watching stuff like this.
This concert was Tommy Shaw from Styx solo
I saw Styx In concert in 1982 when I was a freshman in high school. Just an amazing concert.
A fantastic concerto of this great song!❤❤❤❤.
One of the first concerts I ever went to. October 78 The Cars opened for them

Wow! Just wow! I've heard this song many times, including live versions. But never this one with the amazing orchestra performance! ❤
A great arrangement.
TEARS TY FOR UR REACTION!!!!
Very nice presentation of the song. I enjoyed it.
Glad you enjoyed it
Hey one of my favorite classic hard rock groups I can name the songs all day
Contemporary Youth Orchestra. Styx did a concert with them, One With Everything, that was awesome to say the least. VERY talented young musicians.
I cried
From the album The Grand Illusion. Killer album with great cover artwork. Tommy Shaw does a great job with this. Caught them in the early 80s then again in 2010, great shows.
I saw Styx with the CYO at Blossom. There's a great DVD set of that concert.
Donna ❤Lu Lu ❤kathy❤

Popular band and song, orchestra!
I have this video.

Just had to see if Kathy had eyes like mine. I blew them up. Yes she does! 😊 Lol
Mom had brown, dad's were blue, so why not green?
You gals need to check out ” boat on the river”, my favorite Styx song..! It’s awsome..❤️❤️❤️..
Renegade of course
Especially if you’re a Pittsburgh Steelers fan.
Tommy Shaw on vocals. This song is from their Grand Illusion album
Also their biggest selling record
Come Sail Away from same album 🙏

Tommy told all the students to take a moment during the concert, look around, take it all it and give yourself a memory to last a lifetime.
It was around this time Styx changed from a rock band to a high school orchestra.
I should say. I still enjoy this version of this song. But the original is done with keyboards instead of a violin. Its just different. I love yall. Hi from Beaumont.
Good night
You should do the original video
Its funny, the kids are all serious, but the adults old enough to have likely heard this song, in its original form, when they were young, well, they are grinning from ear to ear.
I'm sorry but that is not Styx. That is Tommy Shaw the lead singer of Styx with a high school orchestra. Thought you'd like to know.
This is a very random comment, but...

Fooling Yourself isn't a big hit like Come Sail Away, Lady, Babe & many others, but it is a good song.
You’ve reacted to Styx before. Also, this isn’t Styx.
This is Tommy Shaw, a member of Styx, doing a Styx song with a youth orchestra.
Anything off Equinox.
This is not the real version of this song at all. Try Come Sail Away. I gave yall the like anyway cause yall are so sweet. And I'm in Beaumont Texas. Howdy neighbor. Haha
Anyone else think the conductor looked just like Dave Grohl??
