Wow! what a great review! Thank you for taking the time show all the issues you had both the good and the somewhat difficult problems with finding the right electrician who really knew what they were doing.

Thank you so much for providing such an on-point, simple, informative, and extremely helpful video. I am looking at this exact unit in a package with 10- 400watt solar panels, but w/o the wall-mount. $10,000. You answered so many questions regarding electrical panels and my 4 ton A/C in California (I feel ya, in Florida. 110 degrees is no joke).

    Morning all!
Love Ecoflow products! And i know solar gennys have come down in price, but are still blisteringly expensive.
We have smaller units here, but enough to take care of business.
Good to know what is happening in the marketplace today, so thank you for this! 👍

Thanks for this video. In eastern Canada just had power outage of 7d over xmas and another storm on its way Jan 10. Looking at the ultra. Have an existing manual transfer switch and sub panel but was interested in features of EF smart panel. Your video and explanations were really appreciated. Now thinking of adding that panel to a pallet! Just waiting now for the unit to come available for purchase.

Why did you need breakers? I was under the impression that the breakers from your main can be moved to the smart panel.

I thought this was a great review! I have watch many other reviews that were all very similar to each other. Your video was the first video that covered features that were not discussed in the other videos. I was very impressed with how you presented the material so a layman could understand without getting lost in the details. Great video.

Great video! I would definitely install a plexiglass shield between water heater and critical electronics. Trust me, I know. Cheap investment for peace of mind.

Can you set scenes or tasks on the panel to run from battery only vs grid? For example, during daytime

Yep, that only puts out 120 volt, just one leg of power, so only half the bussing gets energized... every other breaker.

Hello, I am buying the EcoFlow but I would like to ask you a question: I am keeping the generator on the basement and would like to figure out how to charge with the solar panels outside. I can run a long cable through the basement. But was wondering if it’s possible to ad a grommet plate and have two cables connected? Any ideas would held me. Thank you

as i understand there is a limitation of input from solar (roof) 5.6kWh. So if your roof produces more than 5.6kWh, you'd need the second inverter unit. Do I understand it right?

    Enjoyed this video.
The price point concerns me for what it can actually do when a power outage occurs.
Some questions I have though is:
    1. If 7200W is all it can handle, why are they claiming this to be a whole home generator? If I have a two story home, wouldn’t I need a traditional standby generator like Generac that can handle 26kW to maintain power for the whole house during a power outage/storm?
    2. What’s the benefit of adding a second battery as part of the DPU? Will it still only handle 7200W but just stay on for a longer period of time (than a single battery)?
    3. If I wanted to power entire downstairs of a two story house (including furnace, AC), how many of these inverter+batteries would I need to buy?
Noise, taking up yard space and maintenance costs with traditional Generac generators are cons for sure but would this DPU really be better investment long term? DPU seems more expensive and handles less power requirements in a house.
Appreciate your thoughts/feedback on this and keep up the good work.

      1. a single unit would not be a whole home solution, however with the smart panel you can add 2 more to increase the output to somewhere around 21kW. In an outage or a storm, you can power critical circuits needed for comfort. The smart home panel is only rated for something like 100 or 125 amps I believe, so can't expect to Power the entire house anyway.
      2. adding more batteries increases the runtime before batteries need recharged.
3.See answer one, it's dependent on what you would call critical during a poweroutage, and using this to back up those circuits. Keep in mind that the more you use, then the more batteries you will need, or you will have to use a smaller generator to recharge them before the power come back on.
My opinion, for around $7000, as no touch solution to keep Fridge, well pump and critical lights running, until I can get home to connect up my portable generator is nice. this eliminates buying a whole house generator that may get used once a year depending on where you live, other than a $15K+ investment that it's just sitting there doing nothing, where this used in conjunction with solar panels can get some use out of it even if the power isn't out, and get a little return on your investment in the meantime. are there cheaper home built solar solutions, yes, but this is also somewhat portable depending on the type of activities that you do.
I just couldn't stomach a $15K plus investment in a standby generator, that you have to maintain and feed fuel to, to just have it sit in the yard doing nothing 99% of the time.

@@jayb3518 Thanks for responding. I live in an area that experiences extreme heat in the summer which have led to occasional rolling blackouts and also the last few years have had to deal with multiple power outages in January/February with below freezing temperatures due to power grid issues (pretty sure you can guess where this is in the US). It seems like these grid issues aren’t going away with these swings in temperatures yearly and lot of folks here are opting to go the route of spending big on gas generators like the Generac 26kW to not have to worry about grid issues and keep everything running at their home.
I personally can’t see myself paying that amount for a Generac 26 kW generator (that sits in my yard and makes noise) for emergency usage only so that’s why I was intrigued when I watched this video about this DPU and SHP2. I also like the idea of being able to occasionally power some circuits in my house at peak times from the DPU rather than paying the energy company. I also like that this isn’t noisy.
I don’t have solar, wind or any kind of generator currently. The only way I would charge this would be through the grid (could possibly look at connecting solar to this but that’s more money I would have to spend down the road).
The panel I have outside of the house is the main panel (I assume it’s 200A) since it has the switch for main on it and has larger loads like two air conditioners, oven and cooktop. The panel in the garage is for everything else (I assume it’s 100A).
I think my goal would be to keep power on everything downstairs (and not worry about upstairs) in the event of a power outage for as long as possible. So that would mean one air conditioner from outside main panel, oven from outside main panel, cooktop from outside main panel, furnace for downstairs in garage panel, one water heater, kitchen, and other rooms downstairs from garage panel.
How many DPU plus SHP2 would I need to accomplish that and where would they physically need to be installed at the house?
And could I even install/connect/setup a DPU plus SHP2 outside next to the main panel (because they’re not rainproof/weatherproof are they)?
Thanks in advance for taking the time to answer my questions and explain this. I really am genuinely interested but want to know what the setup, cost and how long this backup power solution could power on the downstairs portion of the house for. Appreciate your help/feedback.

I am no professional and just dabble In the world of backup power.
Some of your questions are hard to answer without knowing how much power you use.
An electrician should be able to install the smart panel inside hopefully close to the outside main panel.
Honestly if it were me your cheapest solution would be a large inverter generator something like a ge max 9000 or 10500 watts and have an interlock kit installed on your main panel.
When you have an outage then you basically shut off all the circuits in your panel, connect your generator and then only turn on the breakers for the circuits you want to use and not overload the generator. Depending on the size of your heat and air you may need a soft start installed but a generator that size should run your air and some critical circuits. Could even run oven and microwave but not at the same time as air, water pump hot water heater and large loads like that.
If code won’t allow you to back feed your panel with an interlock then You can get a sub panel installed for critical circuits or the pre made transfer switches like reliance sells for critical circuits.
Keep in mind that In The future you can grow it out to possibly use one of these battery solution instead of generator and use the generator to charge the battery solution.
They’re are a bunch of videos out here about interlocks and those ge max generators I mentioned.
I think you could do a $2000 inverter generator, interlock, soft start and the generator plug and wiring for around $2500 to $3000.
Again I am no professional and there are potential ways to do it with a battery system but the way I listed is what I would start with.
It all depends on what’s critical to you and how much you want to actually run at the same time, so even a smaller generator could work which would cut costs more. But also limit how much you can run.
Plus you’ll have a portable generator you could use for tiger purposes.
I hope this helps and good luck. And excuse typos, on my phone trying to reply.
I lived for years with a non inverter generator that was 5000 watts back feeding my main panel with an interlock. I had no heat or air, and if I wanted a hot shower I had to turn on the water heater about 30 minutes prior to taking a shower and then turn that breaker off then turn on my water pump to take a shower. But I had lights. Tv microwave. Fans and cold food in the fridge.
