Line Art and future Non-photorealistic rendering process discussion

  • This presentation aims to discuss possible future approaches of line art / non-photorealistic rendering and composition pipeline structure aimed at achieving a more convenient NPR workflow.
    Topics mainly include ways to improve the performance and the quality of Grease Pencil Line Art, possible geometry-node implementation for simplifying filtering and other configuration options, and a design of a potentially more flexible render pipeline with customizable combination of image/geometry-space operations.

    This guy singlehandedly created so many possible artstyles within Blender with his Line Art modifier. Huge props to him. I'm always impressed with how flawlessly the Line Art modifier works no matter what I throw at it. Big thanks to Wu Yiming!!!

      Yeah, my entire style is build ontop of the system he created. Crazy impressive what he managed to create, looking forward to see how it evolves

    Thank you, Wu Yiming for all your hard work on Line Art. Having a better way to render organic (Characters) line art would be a welcomed addition.

    I hope Mr. Wu Yuming gets tons of money. The line art function in Blender is by far my favorite feature. Many thanks for all of your work.

    It would be brilliant if the Blender Developers could add 'Canvases' in Blender. These 'Canvases' would be used to collate LineArt camera views onto one sheet (and include drawing borders). If used in conjunction with on of the dimension addons (MeasureIt_Arch, BelnderBIM, PRJ Addon, TechSec etc.) then Blender could have a way of making technical drawings without having to resort to using a third party program such as Inkscape.

    I’ve tried this at work for I don’t know how many years now with complex CAD models. It has never worked well and Dassault has a grip on the market with Composer. Guess I’ll try Blender line art again some day but I’m not holding my breath…

    I have to try this, but I am curious how this compares to Malt's line shader? Malt's output is real-time lines in the viewport. Do you get this with the add-on?

    Interesting. For now it seems I'm still better off using Freestyle, combining various line-sets applied to specific collections with Illustrator's management of separate SVG layers for post-production.
